It's Madonna's sense of humor at it's best, the one thing that
truly makes her an original, and the thing that the public is largely kept at arm's length from.... because no on knows what to do with it. She is one of the funniest people that has no direct medium of getting that across; unless you see her whole 'singer/dancer' thing in the true ironic light that she intends. This comes as close as John Lennon having Yoko stand next to him and screech while he sings.. it's about being funny.

"Claudius!" Anybody think Sonic Youth should be nominated SOON? Although I'd never claim they invented alternative rock, they were one of the forebears of it. They totally redefined the tonal timbres you can get out of guitars, and probably have influenced as many as VU has by now.
