  • Awesome mate!!..another to the fav list.

    I have a Jp PS2 coming in gthe mail..cant wait! :)

  • @cyanidebreathmintz you're going for the full house system wise mate!! Yup that PS2 is gonna be a top xmas gift for the vertical shooter lover this year!

  • Yum, they look the mutts nuts with them thar scanlines...

  • Everything CAVE Ltd. Why US&EU developers are only the FPS type games? Be interested to scrolling shooter games than FPS games.

  • Great video Matt and Gary! The jps2 is definitely my next shmup console to go after. I really love how Cave does there stuff, each game feels unique, but they all please equally.

  • @dunpeal2064 Thanks mate! Yes, JP PS2 is really really good, the shooters play so well I have never regretted getting any of them, despite their expense.

  • Dude!! Cant believe you got all the Cave games!! Mate, that is sweet as, must have cost you a fortune. Still waiting for DDP, but I love Espgaluda, got to be my favourite game at the mo for exactly the reasons you said in the vid (ranchy S&M elves that is, not the difficulty) ;) Mushi looks awesome to, been playing the sequel quite a lot on the 360, pretty challenging game by all accounts, love the bug theme

  • @alexgameroom Yep I Cave'd in and got them all HAW HAW HAW HAW HAW (my new 'trademark' LOL alternative). I played Mushi 2 at the arcade the other day and thoroughly enjoyed it. Must say I prefer the first one though. (I would say that wouldn't I HAW HAW HAW HAW HAW!!!). Sorry. Are you gonna put up a JP PS2 console and pickups video soon then>?

  • Dodonpachi Daioujou and ESPgaluda are indeed really awesome games. I have the PCBs of Ibara and Mushihimesama, so once I get a supergun or cabinet, I think I'll really enjoy those ones as well.

Have you ever considered getting the Xbox 360? The Xbox 360 is a Cave fan's paradise. Even botched ports like Deathsmiles II and Muchi Muchi Pork & Pink Sweets are still good.

  • @whitemike4life86 One day I'll get the 360...it needs a few years yet to mature for me, so I can get it when it's already retro HAW HAW!!

  • I can hear you clicking away with your controller. LOL

  • @vintagevideogamegeek You've got good hearing! Next time I'll put an extremely loud noise halfway through to surprise you! Not exactly halfway through mind, you'd know when to expect it then HAW HAW HAW HAW HAW!!! Sorry.

  • @WAANGTHEZOMBIES I had to buy one cos I only had a PS3. I suppose swap magic would work, think you can still get the kits but of course only for certain models. Not an expert on that, sorry! Definitely worth investing in a JP PS2 if only for the four "ultimate" shmups for the system! (and I suppose the JP PS1 shmups!)

  • Some superb looking shmups, Ibara looks fantastic, the level of design detail of stages beggars belief, same with Mushi' too. Could watch Cave's bullet hell patterns all day..."wonderful things"! Say no more about Gary, he's a pure LEGEND like. Loved this overview mate. :)

  • @MENDEZ1628 Thanks mate! The PS2 JP offers some uniquely awesome shooters, and I have to say it was WELL worth the investment in a JP machine. I don't think there are that many more "classics" than on here, maybe Gigawing Generations, but that's about it. Haven't even skimmed the surface of PS1 shmups yet!

  • Great video dude! Hope you're glad you got the "stuff" in the end! :-) Mushi is one flamign great game.... I love the music on that! The PS2 port of Ibara is a bit marmite imo..... the filtering on the game is gash and it's really hard to see your bullets properly. Play DDP DOJ using the scoring mechanic..... you won't be saying it's easy then. lol DDP DOJ is the hardest CAVE shooter of all time imo (sticking to the scoring mechanic properly).

  • @Faginrs500 Thanks mate - also for hunting down a decent JP PS2 - I could have so overlooked these classics for years othererwise.

  • Such a good game compilation video. I have yet to get a jap ps2. regret not buying a jap 60gb backwards compat ps3 now.

  • @AmidstStorm That's a good point, a few years back there were quite a lot going on ebay etc but I never knew about PS2 shmups back then and just got the launch PAL PS3, which is flaming good anyway (most of my PS3 gaming is in fact PS2 gaming such as Shadow of the Colossus, God of War etc)

  • @futurematt5 Im on my second ps3 through no fault of my own and i have to say i have no love for the machine anymore. It's partly because the jap 360 gives me my shmup shot in the arm tenfold and i get sick of every time i wanna play a quick 10 mins on uncharted 2 or one of the few other exclusives worthy of time, that i have to update my system.. fucking grates on me.. In 3 yrs i had one it's gotten worse. How hard can it be to sort out something as simple as that.

  • Top notch vid mate. Really must get hold of a jap PS2. All of them are pretty awesome but Mushihimesama stands out for me.

  • @ash81b4u Thanks mate! I also agree Mushi is the standout game: there really isn't anything else similar to it. THe Shmups forum has quite a lot of JP PS2s for sale from time to time.

  • @TheNeverSayNever83 2 of these can be played on mame while you could try using an ps2 emulator if youve got a decent PC

  • Some incredible japanese PS2 shooters. The last one (Ibara) looks amazing with the non colourfull bullets.

  • @darrenwalshsock Thanks mate, most of these games have a load of options but as with Battle Garegga, Ibara has more options to change the look and feel of the game. Most Cave games also feature rearrange mode, which is cool.

  • Not Ketsui death mode, that's a game for the DS. This is just Death Label.

  • lol that ibara cost alot on ebay (forgot if it was new or not)

  • @Dzeath1 Yeah Ibara was the reason I bought a JP PS2 but it was the most expensive game I have for it as well.

  • @TheNeverSayNever83 agreed with scratchmaster but unfortunately there is no way of playing import PS2 games if that was what you were after. I had to buy a JP PS2.

  • @TheNeverSayNever83

Ps3 is multi region just put your import ps3 game in your uk ps3 and away you go.

  • Fantastic video - want all four of these games!!

  • @MrVengeance83 Thanks mate!

  • Shame we don't see games like this on PS3, I guess they all moved over to Microsoft.

Same stock music at the end as IDG World Tech Update.

  • @shaurz Yeah it was a short lived supremacy for the PS2 in shmup terms. LOL I just used a preset tune at the end!

  • Great overview your captured the essence of what makes these games great perfectly

  • @gmintyfresh Very much appreciated Geoff!

  • The boys come through with another awesome video. I wish western tastes were more like the Japanese. Admittedly I enjoy COD for Zombies, and multiplayer can be fun when people play seriously, but that's all there is these days. Actually, I just realized I was going to say I wish we had more top-down/side-scrollers like all the gems you play, but it would just be all shooters instead of FPS's, so I guess it's a matter of preference. Just give me Gradius VI in HD and I'll shut up. Cheers, friend.

  • @royalguard56 Thanks for the comments man! As with music and film, when a classic game is made it will stand the test of time. When loads of commercial nonsense is made it will be quickly forgotten!

  • Great video!

  • @rkgames Thank you!
