man I wish mine was as attached your tiko. mine is not tamed yet. its so hard. tweety doesnt listen to a single thing i say and just sits still on her swing. Even no matter how nice i be and hove much food i use as bait it still doesnt come out. if i try to hold it with a towel, it flies around and if 1 catch it it starts to shiver and i become scared i may heart it or this could be making her see me as her enemy.

That's about the coolest love bird I have ever seen. All the love birds I've known bit constantly and would not let you pet them.

just be patient and spend lots of time with him. talk to him gently. if he tries to bite you, don't jerk your hand away from him really fast because then he just thinks that if he bites, he won't have to be bothered.

Tico is so cute! You remind me of my aunt when she was a kid, she loved animals and she still loves them today! She`s a vegetarian and she works at the Nashville zoo. She also has 2 pitbulls, which she rescued both. She also had a pet snake.

As a trick idea, how 'bout "play dead?" My former Grey Cheeked Parakeet used to do that, play dead in my hand, lying on his back, feet up, 'til I said "OK."

ya the gum was hilarious, expecially how she said "drop it" just like you would with a dog! As for the price, it REALLY varies depending on where you get your bird.

I got Tico for $40 from a breeder but at pet stores they vary from $70 on up. Breeders are definately the way to go because you always get tame, healthy birds.

And a final suggestion that's on top of my head right now is the open wing one. I used to call it "eagle" though because I tried to make my parrot imitate an eagle. I used my finger as a queue to ask him to open his wings and then treat him. And as I'd raise my finger he would open his wings to earn a treat

Also, my parrot used to do the freeze trick like a one a dog does. I taught it to him by showing him his favorite treat and then following to place it on top of his head as he was on a T-stick and asking him to Freeze. If he would stay still for some time then I would praise him and let him have the treat. Gradually you can increase the time he has to stay frozen.

hey,i read the part where you were asking about more ideas on tricks to teach him.

you should try to teach him to salute. its a variation of the "hello/hi" wave he does except you ask him to pick a small flag and wave it around with one foot. i taught my old parrot that trick years ago (sadly, he passed away when he was about 17 years old).

What about teaching him a routine? Like the hokey pokey ...(he can already lift his foot and turn, so it would only be a matter of putting those tricks together in sequence)

What about putting a ball in a cup, shape/color recognition, putting coins in a piggy bank, ringing a bell, etc.

There's still lots of stuff you can teach.

I remember seeing in one of the comments that you have trouble finding safflower seeds. Try looking at stores that sell seeds for wild birds. I have seen them there. I also saw them on Nextag.
