The Constitution states that we all have the right to own guns, and that the gov. can't infringe on this right. Our current gov. has a tough time abiding by the Constitution because they want to take our God-given, Constitutional rights. I don't think ex-criminals deserve to have guns, but the common man does deserve the right to protect himself when necessary. Gov. is getting far too big now and must be stopped from taking our rights from us. We need far less gov. and far less restrictions.

I started competitive shooting when i was 8 years old because i was taught firearm safety if them same is taught to all children in a home that has a firearm the country would be a safer place.

@yuowatcher That's why the court proceedings, post-psychiatric investigation, are a necessity. But perhaps where you and I disagree the most is the power I would give the court in said proceeding. In most cases, sure, keep your firearms during the proceeding (essentially like the court granting bail). But some cases there are mitigating circumstances where an emergency court order may be necessary until a decision must be made (such as denying bail). You may disagree, but its safer that way

Basically, in most of controversy cases (not guns, bans, etc) first the majority of electorate is led to agree on simplified representation, like "no guns for mentally ill". The defendant should have right to prove in court using medical experts of his choice etc. Otherwise we will be no different from communist dictatorships that were punishing their dissidents by putting them into mental clinics.

Finland has the most guns per citizens in the world and also some of the toughest screening processes for acquiring weapons. And what do you know, Finland also has the lowest gun related deaths in the world. It's easy to get a gun permit in Finland just as long as you pass the police background check and you're deemed sane by a doctor. I don't see the problem with that kind of system.

I know a guy who carries a pistol around and he is a slave to that weapon. He can't even take off his jacket in a public place because people will see him packin' and realize what a loser he is. The Constitution states that we all have the right to own guns, and that the gov. can't infringe on this right. Our current gov. has a tough time abiding by the Constitution because they want to take our God-given, Constitutional rights. I don't think ex-criminals deserve to have guns, but the common man does deserve the right to protect himself when necessary. Gov. is getting far too big now and must be stopped from taking our rights from us. We need far less gov. and far less restrictions.

I started competitive shooting when i was 8 years old because i was taught firearm safety if them same is taught to all children in a home that has a firearm the country would be a safer place.

@yuowatcher That's why the court proceedings, post-psychiatric investigation, are a necessity. But perhaps where you and I disagree the most is the power I would give the court in said proceeding. In most cases, sure, keep your firearms during the proceeding (essentially like the court granting bail). But some cases there are mitigating circumstances where an emergency court order may be necessary until a decision must be made (such as denying bail). You may disagree, but its safer that way

Basically, in most of controversy cases (not guns, bans, etc) first the majority of electorate is led to agree on simplified representation, like "no guns for mentally ill". If someone attended mental clinic (I didn't ;-), he still has right to possess and carry firearm unless the Court decides otherwise. Before Court decision the right should not be infringed. Even during court hearing the right should not be suspended. The defendant should have right to prove in court using medical experts of his choice etc. Otherwise we will be no different from communist dictatorships that were punishing their dissidents by putting them into mental clinics.

You can add to the constitution(amendments), which they have 27 times. But no amendment can contradict the constitution.

Finland has the most guns per citizens in the world and also some of the toughest screening processes for acquiring weapons. And what do you know, Finland also has the lowest gun related deaths in the world. It's easy to get a gun permit in Finland just as long as you pass the police background check and you're deemed sane by a doctor. I don't see the problem with that kind of system.
Only criminals have problems with tougher gun controls.

i am a gun owner. i agree with extra background checks. however all of these dumb ass politicians on gun bans just create fiction about guns.throughout american history only a handful of murders have occured with legally purchased assault weapons. anyone who owns a gun knows that full automatic discharging just makes a lot of noise and wastes ammunition. after four rounds you are shooting into the sky. just look up "shoulder shroud" and "heat seeking bullets".

Gun bans don't work.I know this to be true as we've had 4 ammendments,to the 1968 Firearms act.Only selfish liberals,with their intolerant ideals,view gun control,is an effective means to an end.Don't ever allow them to get their feet into your doors.

If I were one of the powerful and privileged elite, I would probably be in favor of gun control also. But I'm just a lowly citizen who actually lives in the world these primadonnas try to control from on high, virtually untouched by the statistics they manipulate to get their way. They want to dictate the terms of my welfare as if they knew better than I how to fend for myself. Mr. Biden...if you read the constitution, you will know why I choose to own a weapon.

we live in AMERICA and if you take our guns away, then only criminals will have guns, and guess what -- they're the ones doin' the killing! So no all the criminals have guns, and the honest, hard working civilians have nothing and they get blasted away with not a second chance to defend themselves cause there are no guns. It's like the saying you can take the person out of the wilderness/city/what have you but you can't take the wilderness/city/what have you out of the person.

I used to live in NY when it was the wild west. and yes we needed some form of handgun control " ie background checks" i think that is sufficiant. but to out right ban them is unconstotucional

I know a guy who carries a pistol around and he is a slave to that weapon. He can't even take off his jacket in a public place because people will see him packin' and realize what a loser he is. For all I am concerned, by carrying that weapon, he's limiting his own freedom. I like shooting but I think there should be a complete halt on weapon production and they should be taken away from a good portion of the people who have them. Life goes on without guns. They shouldn't be a right.

Well, yes quite frankly. Americans don't know what sacrifice is to make a country great. They're the first to run into battle to senselessly risk their lives but refuse to turn the heat down in their homes or drive sensible cars. Not only should guns be taken away but energy should also be rationed. Americans waste too much and are a weight on the rest of the world. Owning a firearm should be only a privilege just as owning a car is.
And much of our soil is lead poisoned.

How about this, I'll drive whatever type of car I want to, I'll have my heat on for as long as I want it on and won't turn it down, and I'll keep my guns, which is a individual right. Here's a better request for your government you so strongly believe in. Instead of taking guns away from innocent people who are simply trying to protect themselves from the criminals your gov't is so scared to punish, ask your gov't to put the next murderer or rapist about 6ft under instead of jail time. This will send a message to criminals so that we won't have to worry about guns anymore.

@ratfink2099 Well said. My 'wants' is an armory in my house and the freedom to do whatever the hell I want. However, my stance on gun control is based on good sense, common good, and STATISTICS. Numbers don't lie. For ever case of which a firearm has been used successfully for self defense, there are shitloads more cases where they are used maliciously. The gun lobbies just like to parade the self defense cases like they happen every minute of the day. It's just not true.
