I don't think there's much wrong with the guitar solo. However, as the song's quite soft and laid back, a more melodic touch could've worked better. Sounded like McLaughlin's stuff partly and I personally find him a bit too "jazzy". No point reaching for extreme oddities when odd simplicities can work even better. :)
