It was a lot more than two. The Shah and Saddam Hussein were by no means the only ruthless dictators the US government installed and backed. There have been many others.
YOu are forgetting that the USA supported Iran secretly during the Iraq-Iran's war in what was called "Iran-Gate" and not so secretly after Gulf War 1.
9/11 was a joint Iranian-American operation executed by UBL and his Al-qaida, which had a strategic realtionship with Iran since the early nineties.
The Goal for Iran is hegemony over the Arabs. The Goal for the USA is creating instability and wars between Shiite and Sunnis/ Arabs and Persians through empowering Iran.
As a true American conservative, thank you once again for standing by true conservative principles, not the pseudo-conservative, Trotskyist-in-disguise bullshit of the neocon warmongers.
Nice video however i was amazed that you did not mention a lick of our special relationship with Israel for some of the blowback that America is experiencing.
Whether you believe 9/11 was an inside job or whether it was blowback from invading foreign soils, either argument is much more sound than the Republicrat cliche of, "They hate us for our freedom." I won't say what position I'm with, but I will say that there are common sense arguments and factual evidence from the first two arguments. The Republicrat argument is pure, 100% fluff.
We did not liberate afghanistan. We radicalized most of the group that is Al Queda. They were trained, funded by the CIA. This was used to create a Vietnam type war with ussr. This was done to show ussr as a aggressor with the current cold war going on. The blowback would be us using them, promising them things, and just dumping them when it was over, and what that in turn caused allot of hatred against the us, and got us to were we are now.
We absolutely didn't "deserve" it. It is just important to recognize the impact of our policy, even though we never intend for it to have this kind of effect. If you want to intervene elsewhere, recognize that it comes at a price.
You know I'm pretty sure our involvment in their countries tip the radical Islamics over the top but I'm stil head strong it's the same reasons Muslims and Christians were fighting during the crusades.
Mossadeq was a communist. He came to power backed by the Iranian Tudeh party - a puppet of the Soviet Union. The British came to Iran, explored and developed the oil supply something the Iranians had no idea how to do. They had an contract worked out that provided oil to Britian, Iran and jobs for Iranians. Mossadeq tore it up and forcibly took over the oil fields stealing equipment and facilities from the British. He would have allied Iran with the USSR and sold the oil to them.
In the Cold War 1950s the loss of Iran and it's oil to the Soviet Union could have been disastarous. There was no other choice but to go in and re-instate the Shah who was a legitimate monarch and did have a lot of supporters. So we traded a communist puppet friendly to the USSR for a monarch friendly to the West. Of course this had to be done. Jimmy Carter screwed up by letting the Shah fall to an Islamic insurgency that didn't have anything to do with Mossadeq or communists or blowback.
Pt.1 What was the insurgency about, then? Could it be that the Shah was not popular with the vast majority of Iranians because he imprisoned as many as 2,200 political prisoners, gave women their suffrage (which angered the country's Shiite muslims who comprise 90% of the country), crushed political dissent with his intel agency SAVAK, and recognized Israel? You fall victim to the largest sin of foreign policy: assumption. Remember what they say about you when you (ass)(u)(me)? End pt.1
Pt2 Mossedeq MIGHT have given oil to the USSR only, but why would he when he could have made more money by selling to both superpowers? We could always have flown over there and talked to him, offered to trade a valuable American resource in exchange for his oil. A counter-coup that resulted in rabid Anti-American sentiment and a vast rising wave of Islamic fundamentalism is an indefensible decision to support. Even Madeleine Albright, a giddy interventionist at the best of times, said...end pt2
Pt3 "In 1953 the United States played a significant role in orchestrating the overthrow of Iran's popular Prime Minister, Mohammed Mossadegh. The Eisenhower Administration believed its actions were justified for strategic reasons; but the coup was clearly a setback for Iran's political development. And it is easy to see now why many Iranians continue to resent this intervention by America in their internal affairs." By the way, we still have not apologized.
Great clip, mr Southern Avenger, but it would be nice if you took a breath between sentences, so I do woould not feel yelled to, as a listener. There's no one trying to interrupt you, during this clip, is there?
What you say is absolutly true. This stuff has been going on for a while and one thing has lead to another and soon enough our country has suffered a terrible event that has changed us all. The thing I hate is that is seems like the US is trying to erase from history the alliances we had with Iraq and others. Also don't forget that our support of Afganistan during the Soviet invasion helped lead the Taliban to power. Its an unfortunate thing to happen.
I am from Spain, and I think more people in Europe should listen the commentaries of The Southern Avenger and the like. American conservatism is far more complex than we europeans tend to think, their opinions have shocked me very often.
Yes, it did. This may sound shocking, but the US government has done some things in the Middle East that might make some people there very angry and want to kill us.
If they hated us for our freedom they'd be bombing Hollywood and Las Vegas or shopping malls or art museums, not targets that represent our political, military, and economic dominance.
I used to be one of those in your face pro-America flag wavers. That is, until I started investigating 9/11 to shut up the naysayers.
After years of investigation, I am totally convinced that 9/11 was an inside job, and that it was perpetrated as a pretext to garner control, eliminate Constitutional governance, and bankrupt the middle class.
So far the plan seems to be working without significant resistance.
5 stars, we " THE PEOPLE " need to overthrow our own government to save our country. Before the whole world decides to shit on us. That is if the time hasn't already come.
Clinton gets his dick sucked and gets impeached. Fucktard Bush pisses on the constitution, lies and starts a worthless war, destroys the economy, commits treason and a deafening yawn sounds. The problem is the entire government not just the executive branch. The government has devolved into a wicked, evil and corrupt organization. Obama and McCain? What's the difference?
I'll tell you the diffrence...for the first time you're gonna have the oppertunity to have a president of the harvard law review become the president of america. Inspirational figures such as Obama don't come around as often as many would hope. Regardless of if you like him or not you there is not a reasonable logical person out there that could say that he does not come off as an extremely sharp man. This is why he has this elitest image. The rest of the world loves him though.
So I should vote for him simply because he graduated from Harvard and the rest of the world simply loves him? Politicians like Obama come around every four years. I want something different.
Blowback is real, prevalent today more than ever. We need eyes on the rest of the world, to know what they perception of America is. IF there is intense widespread hate, it's our responsibility to know. It's the duty of our gov't and media to tell us. If they don't, we have to take it on ourselves.
It's only our lives and our children's lives at risk. Start with the what, figure out the why, then waste no time in taking action.
Very well spoken. I think you said that better than Ron Paul himself. Now let's hope that people will begin to understand this correct logic. No matter what the outcome, we need to exit Iraq asap and all of the Middle East because in the long run it will be to our advantage and our security.
Thank You Thank You Thank You SA!! Why don't people wake up and see this situation for what it really is! Like you said, the excuse "They hate us because we are free and because of our woman" Rudy G. is the stupidest thing I ever heard. Ron Paul is still running for Pres. Vote for him in your Primary and watch for the convention in St. Paul! Delegates have to VOTE.
Filthy american parasites so selfish and stupid to blame the world for all the misery they cause. It would take 100,000 more 9/11s to avenge these people for the scars they have inflicted on this world.
Funny thing is that I feel the next 9/11 will be committed by an American so fed up with their government's actions, that they resort to such extreme desperation. A more violent version of Timothy McVeigh.
Wow that vid is full of historical inaccuracies, logical fallacies and several outright lies.
I don't see why anyone would take it seriously. And the guy who postd needs to get help for his grape kool-aid addiction. What a fucking dumb motherfucker.
I'm not pro-Muslim but I am for self-education and the lessons of history and non-meddling. If you wanta fight--- go, fight the world. If you wanta pay for it-- go, pay whatever you want. Just don't ask me to. And don't tell me that my government has the right to make me even if you don't. That is what liberty is about. Novel idea, isn't it?
The Ottoman Muslims were at the Gates of Vienna about 500 years ago. Since European colonialism began in the 18th century and the US began doing the Europeans fighting and meddling for them in the last 100 years, there has not been a 5-year-period that Westerners have not been on Middle Eastern soil in occupation.
Great video. Simple and to the point. It's scary that there r sooo many ignorant americans out there that have no concept of history, blow-back, revenge, or an eye for an eye.
And I guess the Muslims conquered the West up to Poitiers and Vienna because of "blowback" ???
Our actions surely infuriate many middle-easterners, but if even if we were docile and super-respectable like Israel, the Islamists would still make sure that random Muslims hate us by means of propaganda.
When you say "Saddam commited atrociteis against his own people with weapons we sold him" are you refering to chemecal weapons? Because we did not sell him those. As far as anyone knows they came from East Germany.
Did any of those dumbasses in the audience of the debate realize the irrationality and fallacious argumentation used by Guiliani, apparently not, I really fear for this country.
I thought what Giuliani said was absurd also. His comment was so condescending and superficial. And the way that audience responded with applause for him showed how many people out there are still stuck in that mind-frame of thinking.
Great vid man. It is very difficult for people to look at themselves or their own country to find flaws. All the bad things the US has done to other countries since post WII have only made a few people rich and powerful while damaging the overall credibility of the whole country.
Ahhh... the truth. So refreshing after so much media propaganda. Thank you. The equation is simple. We are not all good an neither are they. It is our responsibility to reconcile past mistakes, NOT BE UNITED IN WHAT IS WRONG. Again, thank you.
oil people. This has all to do with oil. buy a hybrid or get a car that can run on E-85. The only thing those stupid towel heads have to offer the world is oil and once that is gone they will go back to living in the 8th century.
Either the US accepts its destiny & takes on an imperial mantle effectively, or it steps aside & lets someone else do it. Only realize this: there are consequences to letting some other head weigh heavy beneath the crown.
This is very well done. I also think that 9/11 was enabled by blowback in a different sense. After much study of the evidence I reached the firm suspicion that the inner circle of the CIA allowed the Al Qaeda plot to go forward because they were attempting to make heroes out of themselves with an ambitious sting operation, which blew back in their faces. Click on my name and see my video & text for more information.
Listen, I see what you are saying about what cause 911, and I can see we as a nation have mistakes in our past. Here is where we part ways. I was not alive in 1953 and had no part in the CIA's decision to support various ruthless dictators, but when somebody knocks on your door and calls you out, your going to go fight.
Sir please understand that we went to Iraq not soly because of WMD's, but because the leader there at that time were supporting terrorist with money, weapons and lodging. Infact reports show that in the past 2 yrs that lower level al queda members have handled bombs and didn't even realize how deadly they were to themselves
At what point, though, will we factor in the Cold War into this reasoning behind blowback? That little historical tussle seems to have been quickly forgotten. On the flipside, what is the point of NATO now that the Cold War is over? What is the point of hegemony?
Since it seems that we have deemed it necessary to pursue this "global economy" irregardless of the fact that the vast majority of world governments are highly volatile or weak internally, does our way of life require a presence? Just a few thoughts. Another good one SA.
if osama hates us because we love freedom, why dosint he attack denmark? denmark has way more freedom then us....plus, hes pissed because we support isreal and exploit muslim countrys. the man openly admits it people!
I've read that the US also limited the number of US oil companies that could drill for oil in Iran to the largest, most powerful corporations, leaving about 50 out of the market. If true, that tells me that the US has been a great big government/corporate state since who knows when? Probably when corporations were allowed by the US Government in the 1800's, which brought about the big industrial revolution in this country.
ulsterscot- ghoulianis qoute can certainly apply to your last comment. The fact remains that "The War on Terror" is breeding terrorist's - That is Blowback!
It's crazy that even after that video, people are still questioning the micro level of the argument. Why is it so hard for people to understand the concept of BLOWBACK???!!! I used to be that way but because of research...I found out more about the war...and that's the only reason I stumbled on Ron Paul and became a supporter. RON PAUL backs everything he says with history and facts. RON PAUL FOR PRESIDENT.
Russians/French have been involved in the ME just like the USA...so why did they not fly a plane into the eiffel tower or the kremlin? Make no mistake- they want an islamic world and america/uk are the most offensive to their world view
I would say the majority of arms to the region came from the russians??People are in denial as the nature of the enemy the free world faces. People are at war b/c they see it as their religious duty...not b/c they are poor or oppressed
Okay so both the US and Saddam contributed to starvation of the Iraqi people and death of 500,000 kids. Why does it make you feel better to say, "Saddam's a child killer, too."?
Yes, for a time the UN was the US' bitch on this issue. Why does it make you feel proud of the US to say, "Saddam and the UN are child killers, too."?
It didn't. That's why Secretary of State Colin Powell insisted on going back to the UN, but Shrub refused since he knew that the authorization would not be granted. The UN would have demanded that the inspectors be given more time to find the nonexistent WMDs, as the 9/02, not "'03", resolution depended on WMD noncompliance.
Careful, you're logical extrapolations are getting silly. I would have preferred containment that did not involve dead children. He was a rotten guy, but all suggestions that Saddam presented an imminent threat to the US - WMDs, Al Qaeda links, etc. - have been proven false.
Ron Paul suggested 9/11 was caused because al-Qaeda didn't like the US bombing Iraq during the 1990's, which is ludicrous. Bin Laden, himself, wanted to take up arms against Saddam when he invaded Kuwait. Of course, he would've gotten his ass kicked had the Saudis let him try it. So, instead, they just laughed in his fucking face and pissed him off.
You left out the fact that the US created the Taliban and Al qeada to fight the Russians in Afghanistan.
Also the latest claims that "OH the Iranians are supplying weapons to the iraq isurgence" Give me a break, how many people have we ARMED to kill others? They act like it's bad for someone else to arm the opposition but it's ok for us? Shhiiitttt
NO MORE HYPOCRISY, BRING BACK THE RULE OF THE CONSTITUTION!!!!!!!!!! IMPEACH BUSH AND ALL HIS MINIONS,( which I feel is too nice)

After listening to articulations from native Arabs such as Walid Shoebat Brigitte
Gabriel Nonie Darwish Waffa Sultan
and many others hearing their insights
I realized a while ago that it's not blowback at all terrorist attacks are
part of an agenda of globalizing Islam
and killing everybody that they deem as
infidels When Anwar Sadat signed a
Peace Treaty with Israel he got assasinated was that out of anger
for US policy He was considered a blockage that needed to be trailblazed
LeboAgainstPalestine 2 years ago
there may be some merit to what you argue, however, blowback IS largely the reason for acts of terrorism committed against the US.
Mattboy2388 2 years ago
What about Pinochet, Stroessner, the coup against Arendt in Guatemala, etc, etc, etc.CIA behind it. I agree to that the soviets are not kids, but need to learn from these mistakes. Get the troops out of Iraq. Get them out of Afganistan. Get Insurance for all americans.
SROBERT123 2 years ago
It was a lot more than two. The Shah and Saddam Hussein were by no means the only ruthless dictators the US government installed and backed. There have been many others.
Scotty7617 2 years ago
it's not just blowback, the government had a direct hand into 9/11 to complete thier agenda with iraq. now all of that is documented
killwhitey88d 2 years ago
YOu are forgetting that the USA supported Iran secretly during the Iraq-Iran's war in what was called "Iran-Gate" and not so secretly after Gulf War 1.
9/11 was a joint Iranian-American operation executed by UBL and his Al-qaida, which had a strategic realtionship with Iran since the early nineties.
The Goal for Iran is hegemony over the Arabs. The Goal for the USA is creating instability and wars between Shiite and Sunnis/ Arabs and Persians through empowering Iran.
It worked.

You are right!! Simply supply both gangs in one city. Let them kill each other. or countries.
You got it man.
But on th OBL thoughts.... I think you are wrong there.
Why?
OBL did not know about the NYC events of2001-9-11.
In fact, go to the FBI web-site.
OBL is NOT mentioned irt that day.
Even Bush said when asked, though it may have been no more than a brain fart, OBL had nothing to do with 2001-9-11.
9/11, as it is called, was a false flag event.

The Republicrat argument is pure, 100% fluff.

so lets see we helped liberate afghanistan from the ussr by helping Osama .. is that what blowback is?
jamezny1 3 years ago
We did not liberate afghanistan. We radicalized most of the group that is Al Queda. They were trained, funded by the CIA. This was used to create a Vietnam type war with ussr. This was done to show ussr as a aggressor with the current cold war going on. The blowback would be us using them, promising them things, and just dumping them when it was over, and what that in turn caused allot of hatred against the us, and got us to were we are now.

He would have allied Iran with the USSR and sold the oil to them.
mwe1967 3 years ago
In the Cold War 1950s the loss of Iran and it's oil to the Soviet Union could have been disastarous. There was no other choice but to go in and re-instate the Shah who was a legitimate monarch and did have a lot of supporters. So we traded a communist puppet friendly to the USSR for a monarch friendly to the West. Of course this had to be done. Jimmy Carter screwed up by letting the Shah fall to an Islamic insurgency that didn't have anything to do with Mossadeq or communists or blowback.
mwe1967 3 years ago
Pt.1 What was the insurgency about, then? Could it be that the Shah was not popular with the vast majority of Iranians because he imprisoned as many as 2,200 political prisoners, gave women their suffrage (which angered the country's Shiite muslims who comprise 90% of the country), crushed political dissent with his intel agency SAVAK, and recognized Israel? You fall victim to the largest sin of foreign policy: assumption. Remember what they say about you when you (ass)(u)(me)? End pt.1
Apmhflick 3 years ago
Pt2 Mossedeq MIGHT have given oil to the USSR only, but why would he when he could have made more money by selling to both superpowers? We could always have flown over there and talked to him, offered to trade a valuable American resource in exchange for his oil. A counter-coup that resulted in rabid Anti-American sentiment and a vast rising wave of Islamic fundamentalism is an indefensible decision to support. Even Madeleine Albright, a giddy interventionist at the best of times, said...end pt2
Apmhflick 3 years ago
Pt3 "In 1953 the United States played a significant role in orchestrating the overthrow of Iran's popular Prime Minister, Mohammed Mossadegh. The Eisenhower Administration believed its actions were justified for strategic reasons; but the coup was clearly a setback for Iran's political development. And it is easy to see now why many Iranians continue to resent this intervention by America in their internal affairs." By the way, we still have not apologized.
Apmhflick 3 years ago
I believe mossadegh offered a 40% discount on oil purchased but we still declined.

What you say is absolutly true. This stuff has been going on for a while and one thing has lead to another and soon enough our country has suffered a terrible event that has changed us all.

This is very well done. I also think that 9/11 was enabled by blowback in a different sense. I've read that the US also limited the number of US oil companies that could drill for oil in Iran to the largest, most powerful corporations, leaving about 50 out of the market. If true, that tells me that the US has been a great big government/corporate state since who knows when? Probably when corporations were allowed by the US Government in the 1800's, which brought about the big industrial revolution in this country.

patsagainstrats,
Yes, for a time the UN was the US' bitch on this issue. Why does it make you feel proud of the US to say, "Saddam and the UN are child killers, too."?
vrede420 4 years ago
If what you say is true, why didn't the UN give the US the go ahead to invade Iraq in '03. You can't have both ways.
patsagainstrats 4 years ago
patsagainstrats,
It didn't. That's why Secretary of State Colin Powell insisted on going back to the UN, but Shrub refused since he knew that the authorization would not be granted. The UN would have demanded that the inspectors be given more time to find the nonexistent WMDs, as the 9/02, not "'03", resolution depended on WMD noncompliance.
vrede420 4 years ago
So, you would have preferred more continued sanctions, even though children were starving because of them?
patsagainstrats 4 years ago
patsagainstrats,
Careful, you're logical extrapolations are getting silly. I would have preferred containment that did not involve dead children. He was a rotten guy, but all suggestions that Saddam presented an imminent threat to the US - WMDs, Al Qaeda links, etc. - have been proven false.
vrede420 4 years ago
Ron Paul suggested 9/11 was caused because al-Qaeda didn't like the US bombing Iraq during the 1990's, which is ludicrous. Bin Laden, himself, wanted to take up arms against Saddam when he invaded Kuwait. Of course, he would've gotten his ass kicked had the Saudis let him try it. So, instead, they just laughed in his fucking face and pissed him off.
