  • NOTE to the viewers - Don't trap these and other native birds without a licence as they are federally protected = jail time.

  • @buslawjim wow! so much anger i see in you grasshopper

  • Why are you trapping them? that would be illegal in my country

  • @carlingfordberg I'm not in your country. It's legal here if you have a falconer's license.

  • If it was a Red TAILED hawk , it would have tore him a new butt.

  • @buslawjim ur mom keeps tellin u bullshit

  • what are you feeding it?

  • @MacPete187 We released that one but we typically feed it whatever it kills, usually squirrels or rabbits.

  • @cjrobic

wow. so you caught this one in the wild? Did it just land on your glove when u tried to give it food?

  • @MacPete187 No, we put a mouse in a small trap with nooses tied to the top of the trap. The hawk came down to get the mouse and got caught in the nooses. We released it after. This guy was just showing me how to trap a hawk. I was the camera man in this video. The guy in the video is a licensed falconer.

  • @cjrobic i trapped a red shoulder and did that same thing, it didnt try to bite or anything it was basically frozen then we just let it go

  • @MacPete187 it looked like it had a cape when u picked upside down

  • LOL, are you serious?

  • i hopefuly will get my permit this year yahh! cant wait i love falconry ! awsome sport

  • Why do they go still when you hold them by their feet?

  • That's not me. I'm behind the camera.

  • 1 week to train it .....you must be superman haha Im on bird 15 this year and never had a bird that was out hunting after capture in a week....please share your method as Im REALLY interested..XD

  • He had a crop full and still came to the BC. That probably would of made a hell of a falconry bird. Good vid!

  • Gorgeous red shouldered hawk.

  • nice looking one im going to start right after i get my license

  • You need to be a licensed falconer to capture and train a hawk. It has to be trained or it won't come back.

  • How do you train one excactly?

  • You train them to come to your glove for food using a creance (leash). A good falconer can have a bird ready to hunt in the wild in about a week. Once the hawk comes to the glove from about a distance of 50 feet then you need to take it out hunting. If you get the hawk relying on you for food it will never hunt, it will just dive bomb you when it's hungry so it is critical to get the hawk out hunting as soon as possible. It comes with experience.

  • How did you build your trap. I have a cooper who started hitting my chickens this week. He needs a new home far away. Eric

  • It's made from chicken wire. Make a box and tie nooses on top with string. Put a mouse in the trap and the hawk will come down and get caught on the nooses. Use a falconer's glove to handle the hawk. Their talons are very sharp. You may want to call your local wildlife agency to see if there are any licensed falconers in your area. Falconers are the only ones that can legally trap a hawk.

  • i like red shoulders but i also like coopers hawk
