with linux installed will it do everything a computer would do including playing emulaters

@SchoolClown1 it will play emulators yes, but sony still has it locked down so doing everything a computer can do is alittle far fetched. Also make sure your on 3.15 or lower firmware as sony has removed it from newer consoles.

i wouldnt really reccomend installing linux its not very usefull, sony has most of the features locked out also yes you would have to loose all your music and saves.

It's recommended that you backup all of your saves and then partition 10 GB to the OS before you install Linux. YDL 6.2 has more advanced features, plus you can then install Mesa 7.5 which has full 3D acceleration for Cell.

Last week, I stayed up all night and never went to bed trying to install it. I went to work at 12 pm and everyone kept asking me why are yours eyes red? Are you drunk? Are you high? No and no. Jeez! well... umm.. lets see. do I HAVE to have an HDMI cable connected to an HDTV to do this? because I don't have an HDTV or an HDMI cable. Also, do I NEED a wireless keyboard and mouse? I'm planning on using a DVD+RW to write the ISO onto it. and like how do i backup my data? questions that need answers.. im planning on doing this soon so answer my questions plz.

you need a hdtv or else you wouldent be able to read anything but it dosent have to have an HDMI cable it can use a composite cable. you need a keyboard and mouse but it dosent need to be wireless. DVD+RW will work and you need a big memory card or portable hdd to backup your ps3 data just look in the settings of the ps3 on how to backup (backing up isnt necissary i didnt backup and im fine, unless your backing up to format your HDD then yes i can see y ud want to backup)

i dont think YDL 5 supports bluetooth so youll need to upgrade to 6.0

Linux is an operating system like XP and it pretty much turns you're ps3 into a fully functional computer. You can easily switch back and forth between ps3 os and linux. It comes with firefox and makes surfing the web alot easier than the ps3s web browser.Now are you still confused?

depends how you format your HDD i formatted it for 10gb to other os and the rest for the ps3's XMB.
