saw frank marino, mothers finest, humble pie and angel in johnson city tenn. on thanksgiving weekend..ca. 79-80 only cost $7 bucks. caught a drum stick and guitar pic from mahogany rush.
Does anyone out there remember when Mahogany Rush toured with Aerosmith (?) in the '70s? Once Mahogany Rush finished their set, half of the arena would empty. Marino never got the recognition that he so truly deserves. It's great to see that his music and talent is being kept alive.
@provred2 Part of that could have something to do with the fact that, generally speaking, back in the '70s Aerosmith sucked live!! They were so messed up on whatever drug/alcohol cocktail they were doing they couldn't function as a group. Once they cleaned themselves up, they were great live. Always was a big fan of Frank though.
@Espuds Yes they most certainly did...They were my second live concert in the mid 70's and the worst...I still say, they owe me a concert ticket....ha
Had the awsome experience of seeing Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush at a night club with about 200 other people sometime in the 70's.Got there early and was right at the stage!Blew me and my ears away!!
you are all idiots. back in the early 70s queen &ac fucking dc opened for mahogany rush!!!!!! look it up! frank marino is one of the few guitarists you can mention in the same breath as frank zappa johnny winter & your mama.
My soul is in the late 60's and 70's. I wish others of today's youth could appreciate this like I do. No matter how much MTV, VH1, Guitar Hero tries to kill off this music, it will never die. Frank Marino, keep rockin'!
@doublej706 I'm 20 years old and Love this kind of music How I wish to have lived those times the great 60's Psychedelic Rock bands and 70's Progressive Bands, My Band are covering this great song, The Mahogany Rush Live album is AMAZING!!! Fuck MTV And VH1 , Fuck the New generation!!!!! Rock And Roll!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Saw Mahogany Rush in the late 70's, opened for Nazareth...(El Paso, Tx). In my book it should've been the other way... I knew every song Mahogany Rush played back then... (Nazareth was still awesome tho') Great show!!!
@flamminroy77 He doesn't compare to Hendrix - he takes Hendrix to a whole other level. Jimi was the innovator but Frank perfected it and went way beyond with the psychedelic blues rock trip. It's too bad Jimi did not live to see Frank play and experience Mahogany Rush in the 70's - he'd have given Frank all the props in the world. Do yourself a favor and watch the vintage Marino clips here on YouTube. And go see Frank LIVE! You'll come out a fan because the man is MINDBLOWING!
Why do people compare guitarists to each other? There are so many that affect so many things in us . I can't even begin to run down a list of guitarists that move me.Not one better than the other .
yeah i can definitly hear Jimi, but, dont take this the wrong way, Jimi is just incredible, I dont think any one will ever play like him. this is good though
Each muscian has their own style. Jimmy was creative but very sloppy on the guitar. I love the music he did but most of his songs were writen by others like Bob Dillan...
I dunno if he still uses it, but he used to have the biggest stompbox pedal array I have ever seen used live, and he had 100% precision control of all of them....
I don't know if was underated in my realm but his bluesie style never did big on the pop charts. He's still a hero. I used to have the same guitar Yeah
I saw Frank on this tour in Madison Wi-simply awesome! I've seen a lot of great guitarists but he had the best sound I've ever heard! He's in a class by himself.
Hell yes!! Frank IS the most wailing guitarist as far as I'm concerned! He(to this day) has lived up to his legend as being the most real, from the gut, "in your face...." "Do you love screaming guitar..., musician that I've seen in my life! Really cool and funky song!
Frank Marino deserves respect. I am not watching Jimi Hendrix or Jimmy Page. I am watching Frank Marino and I feel as good, If not better then I do watching the obvious choices. Frank Marino has got to be the most underated guitarist, composer and musican from his generation. I see it over and over within his video comments at Youtube and elsewhere. Frank Marino should have as many music awards as any professional guitarist alive. One of the founding fathers of true psycodelic rock.
This one Musician I`am saving for the last. I guess. I`ve had this record and only played it twice. And I`am familiar with this song. And I always knew he kicked ass. Maybe its time to open you up and let you out. Dose the neighbors!
Many of these Mahogany Rush videos have posts saying Frank was one of the most "under-rated guitarists"This is not true. For those of us who remember Frank during the 70's, he was never "under-rated" He was the Yngwie of his time and simply put the best out of all of them.He was not as commercially successful as he should have been but he was never "under-rated".We all knew how great, fast, and brilliantly violent he could play and so did many of his rivals. He is truly one of legendary status.
Frank is, without a doubt, my favorite guitarist! How this psychedelic rock giant can be so overlooked is beyond me. He, and his band were in- freakin'-credible the last three years I saw them. I hope they can keep on touring and keep bringing absolute joy to us fans!!
Saw them at the Toledo Sports Arena(RIP) in the day. Never herd of him, went to see the other band(forget who)and just stood with my jaw on the floor the whole time Frank played..I cant understand why he never made it big. Thanks for the video.
i always thought this was a great song-too bad alotta rock fans who dig this and mooshik like zappa never stop trying to sell the idea of dope to the people they meet-gets to be an incredible drag after a while being treated like ya was born yesterday-that one goes out to all the dopey youngblood musicians i met from 1980 to 1990-up wit frank
I got to meet him and his brother about 18 or 20 years ago now. when he played at colege park,Md. i think it was called the atic at that time he is a super cool dude very laid back not stuck up in any way. saw him in virginia someware and got him to sign some albums for me...still got um. always was me fav guitar player. thanks so much to wild willy!!!
This is a super cool rock n roll video with some high caliber picking as usual. Go Frank!!(Thank you ENORMOUSLY for posting and sharing this awsomely inspiring video with us.)GP.
Marino was huge in the neighborhood where i grew up in West Detroit. Spent many nites in Eliza Howell Park on telegraph and 5 mile just blasted listening to Frank marino. Long Live Rosedale park.

Amen brother! very underated! He is back out on tour in '08! Go to his website to see if he is playing near you! Van Halen who? I saw him in '06 in Dallas TX. He played for 3 hours and signed autographs after for over an hour and a half! Very nice and humble man!
He played at Belleriver High in 74 and then in Windsor Ont. Can. Ya I was lucky had a good time too!

My band opened for Frank at Entex. Anyone remember that place? I was in awe - I literally wore out Frank Marino and Mahogony Rush Live.
Even though I was a mumbling, stuttering kid, Frank was a nice guy. I have all the respect in the world for this man.
Canada's most underrated guitar player - years ahead of his time.
