  • Awsome performance! I liked it. One of the best DT songs!

  • @franciscoortegaster Thank you!!!

  • I know that this video was recorded quite some time ago, but I do hope that you can still answer a little question: how many attempts did it take to record it? I understand it's definitely not the easiest drum track in DT discography.

    BTW, nice job. ;)

  • @daviduzz This video was done it two takes. Once all the way through and a second time to clean up some minor mistakes.

    Thanks for watching!

  • I find myself coming back to your channel watching the dream theater covers over and over, I love them! You sir, are my hero! Keep it coming!

  • Dude,, i would love to know what drum stick are you using on this video??

  • @JewLoco Thank you!!

  • Ok, G! Who is going to replace Mike? I love him in Avenge, but I want DT to continue. I personally think Zonder. What is your feeling?

  • @cannibaloguz2 Thanks man! Which china are you referring to?

  • @gspot27 That one on the right. :)

  • @cannibaloguz2 The one on the right that you can't see is a Paiste 2000 18" China Type. The small one underneath it is a Paiste Rude 14" China prototype.

  • @cannibaloguz2 The one on the right that you can't see is a Paiste 2000 18" China Type. The small one underneath it is a Paiste Rude 14" China prototype.

  • @Juicyrummer There are loads of different time signatures in this song, as in most DT songs.

  • bravo !!!!!! excelent work

  • great playing!, best recording yet! makes your paiste sound better, you got rid of that weird humming noise as well

  • @whoshere Thank you! Well, I am combining recording from the laptop and the camcorder and muting out places where I'm not playing. Combining this all together helps to overshadow that humming sound produced by the camcorder.

  • I was expecting this cover since you posted Take the Time. This song rocks, and you too. Congratulations.

  • I LOVE THAT FUCKING RIDE!!!!!

  • @odiolagrammatica Thank you! Paiste 2002 22" Heavy Ride in Blue Colorsound.

  • @gspot27 yeah.. i've read on your profile.. how much did you paid it?

i want to ask one thing what ride cymbal you got?

  • @v300v3 Thanks man! I am playing a Paiste 2002 22" Heavy Ride custom ordered in dark blue. Best ride ever!

  • Love the new 720p HD !!! Thinkin about redoing some old ones now? LOL

  • @stealthin3 LOL...No, that would be way too hard! I wish I could reupload newly enhanced clips over some of the older ones.

  • incredibly awesome dude!

  • @nico7heavymetal Thank you!

  • greeeeeeeeeeeeeeat!!!!!! the best!!!

  • @fluicarus Thanks!

  • awesome!!!

  • @astonaragun Thank you!

  • Glen, being a new player but a prog rock person most of my life, I assume the song is playing low volume in your headset. Take it easy on me out there folks as starting the drums at age 52 and being a Dream Theater, Rush, Yes, King Crimson, is a tad more difficult for sure to emulate.

  • @catvmaps Actually, the music is playing very loud in my headphones after nearly 30 years of playing! Props to you for learning to play and it's never too late to begin playing an instrument.

  • Very nice. You mentioned you used a different recording technique. How did it differ from the old method you used?

  • @thehw Good question, I used the computer's mic to record as well as the camcorders mic. Then, once I spliced all the video together, I then imported the audio from the camera to the computer and mixed it with the recording from the computer and viola. It took forever but I can finally really hear the kick drums in my video.

  • how are those iron cobras

  • @drummerboy6666 Awesome! Some of the best pedals you can buy for the money.

  • It's about time you did this song!! Great job dude! Keep up the good work - we love ya!

  • Amazing song, Amazing cover

  • exelent job. i realy enjoyed this vid realy well played. btw what is the china at 0:27? it sounds so nice

  • @jamy313 Thanks! That is a Paiste 2000 18" China Type.

  • Great as usual!

I wonder when you're gonna play Only a matter of time...

  • Great damn cover dude ! Love the sound and skills.

  • Another great one Glen. you kill it man. Awesome cover dude.

  • you never cease to impress.

  • what ride cymbal is that? i know it's not the paiste blue bell ride.. but it sounds so good, it's so proggy.

  • @Quathan Check out my channel page. I posted a video of the ride when I got it. It is a Paiste 2002 22" Heavy Ride in blue colorsound. This is a custom order. It's got the perfect weight, wash, definition and dryness that I am looking for.

  • @Quathan It is the Paiste Blue Bell Ride :)

  • @Bobihoe Nope, it is a 2002 22" Heavy Ride in custom blue colorsound.

  • this video along with a glass of whiskey and beer it feels so soothing. Its an awesome feeling, and just keep on showing of what u have learned, cuz it really entertains people.... I wonder how you will do against a Lamb of God song, or some other "American Metal" band... just a thought :D

  • Finally you decided to play Learning to Live!!! Awesome as always!!

  • Good 4 u

    Good song!!

  • As always...you nailed it!

  • no words, just wow.

  • never expecting less than excellent from you , Top of the line man ,

  • From 5:00 to 5:30 is freakin' unbelievable, so chuffed that you nailed it man!

  • WOOW awesome!

  • Great playing! As usual! Also a relly nice save at 5:33-5:34.

  • How much time do you take to learn a song like this one and master it as we all see it thru youtube?

  • @acereroycementero Well, I can't really answer that easily. Since I have a job and a family, it takes me a while sometimes. I've been listening to this song since 1995 but I never really studied it to this degree up until a couple of weeks ago. I just started practicing it and memorizing it. You'll see in the video about 5 different splices from two different takes to get the best result for this video.

  • @gspot27 Well, it seems to me that you're a very focused person in order to balance your personal life with the drum playing, congratulations on that, and I'm looking forward for your next video.

    Thanks!

  • Just love to watch you play. You have an amazing cymbal set, that blue ride is absolutely marvelous!

    Keep up the good work!

  • Man, all your drum videos are always a joy to watch. Keep up the good work maybe you can do a drum cover of "The best of times" ? Thanks alot!

BTW, Are they 22" or 24" kickdrums

  • Impressive as always

  • i see u have two bass drums now... yo g, can u maybe make another drum kit set up video?

  • @gothickid13 I guess I better because I am about to get a new kit and I will only have 1 kick for a while.

  • @gspot27 Seriously? Your getting a new kit? Are you sticking with Pearl or going to a different company or what? New cymbals too?

  • fucking amazing dude, especially loved the ending, almost like you didn't want to stop, and i don't blame ya, seems like a fun song...

  • Another fantastic cover, Glen. As always. Very inspiring. You're master of your craft. Well done. \m/

  • @rickramos775 Thanks! I have had two kick drums for 10+ years now. Up until about 6 months ago, one of my kicks was in a different state but I got it back.

  • Probably my favorite from DT. Thanks for covering this one Glen. Awesome performance and great work in the last 4mins or so.

Keep doing what you love man!

  • @frenstep Thank you very much!

  • they fall under the genre of Thrash Metal yes, but the style they produce and the melodies are that of Progressive metal. they have several rhythmic riffs, which are not standard like most Thrash Metal. their songs are of considerable length, they use odd time signatures and their lyrics are also progressive especially in the 80s. they were not only about death, but about the power of drugs and the ruin of government and mankind. because of this they fall under Thrash Metal and Progressive Metal

  • Oh my god! I've been requesting you'd cover this for years!

It was truly great, keep on rocking!!

  • @orenwe Thank you!

  • Man you are da man!!! You're going to turn this cover into dynamite!! Have a great weekend!

    JC

  • @Scream4vengeance Thank you! I'll be in touch very soon!

  • Glenn!

your drumming is more than great!

im very impressed of your work!

  • @Drums4live Thank you!

  • bout time. perhaps the greatest progressive lyrics ever besides Dyer's Eve by Metallica

  • Finally!!! This is awesome!! I'm sure that even Portnoy would be impressed!

  • @vbdude006 Thank you! I would hope so! :)

  • YEEEEEEEES!:D

  • Very good Job Glen! Amazing! Bravo! :))

Honor Thy Father 2007 song when we see you?

  • @jankovicsr Thank you! And what about Honor Thy Father?

  • @gspot27 Is there a video of Mike Portnoy above. You have not seen yet?

  • Wow Glen... I can honetly say it's a real honour to be able to watch such a talented drummer as yourself, you are really amazing with a pair of drumsticks and it simply amazes me and makes my day to see such a great drummer. God Bless and Thank You very much for this Glen!

  • @TheKingAwesome You are most welcome! Thank you for watching!

  • That was simply amazing! Love the ride cymbal by the way.

  • @masterofmetal15 Thank you and thank you!

  • Excellent.

  • How do you set up your bass drum? I have a Remo Powerstroke 3 for mine... but whenever I put too many pillows to muffle it, it becomes too quiet compared to the snare and toms... and I don't see any mics so the volume must be the same in person...

  • @Snorkel00 I am using Aquarian Superkick I batter and Resonator on the resonant side. I have a rolled up towel taped against my batter head and that's it.

  • @Snorkel00 what I have found works well for the bass drum is to line the entire inside edge with foam wide enough to touch both heads. The foam I have is about 1.5" thick. It eliminates the resonance without taking away the sound or volume of the bass drum. Of course there is no "right" or "wrong" way to set it up... I just found that works best for me and is at least worth a try if you're still trying to get the right sound for you.

  • Great job man!

  • Sorry I forgot to go in with further details, FUCKING AWESOME

  • @GuitarFosse LOL, thanks again!

  • @GuitarFosse Thank you!

  • wow nice)) one of my favorites

    good job

  • @BaguMka86 Thank you!
