  • so f1 cars use to be able to do push ups?

  • actually it was lotus that had the first active suspension they just didnt know how to program it as well as williams so doesnt that make them the most incredible care for coming up with the idea first? innovation?

  • looks like the car is breathing!!

  • Actually this car made Mansell and Prost to win in 1992 and '93. The active suspension made them so special. Without it, Senna would beat them in the championship way ahead...

  • @macee17 "without it senna would beat them in the championship way ahead"

    dont think so, son!

  • did the original FW14 from 91 have active suspension? i reckon the "big brother" of this car gets forgotten about too much

  • @dvnupldr no

  • It's crazy to think that next year's FW15 was actually even more technologically advanced than this car.

  • 0:01-0:05 The car was so technologically advanced that the car itself was breathing like a human lol

  • warming up the muscles!!!! wow....

  • I didnt know mexico had a F1 team,

  • this car is PIMP

  • dalebshelton - I totally disagree because this car was the 1992 FW14B, not the 1993 FW15 that disengagejam was on about. The FW14B of 1992 was immense. In fact, Honda in 92' had the most power in the second half of the season and McLaren still couldn't hold a candle to WIlliams.

  • the best f1 car ever!

  • the best f1 of ever

    great car!

  • Just another example of English F1 teams groundbreaking engineering......like the monocoque, rear engines, the DFV, ground effect etc

  • Makes "pimp my ride" look cheap :D

  • One of the most incredible F1 cars ever produced ... just imagine the aero capabilities of today mixed w/ active suspension, flexible wings, ect.

    simply amazing !!!

  • @disengagejam

    and proper engines :)

  • The FW14B and the FW15 were probably the most technologically advanced F1 cars ever invented.

They simply just obliterated all comptetion in both 92 and 93 seasons, and nabbed the Constructor's in 94 as well.

McLaren had the talent (Senna) in 93, but Williams had 2 picometers less talent than Senna (Prost) and the best machine. I also think losing Honda power for second-rate Ford HB V-8 factory engines in 93 didn't help McLaren and team boss Ron Dennis, either.

  • this car was incredible!

    the best F1 of ever.

  • The misconception that Williams Active Ride was better than Mclaren. If not for the Powerful Renault Engines...I can be argued that Mclaren's active suspension was every bit as effective as Williams,,,the fact that they were down 80+ horsepower hid it..Looked at the way senna finished up 93. Williams couldn't even stay close to Mclaren in the last 3 races.

  • the williams was much better than the mclaren, the last 3 races was just a triumph of man over machine...

williams were on a 1 stop strategy in portugal and prost leap frogged hakkinen (future double champion) before he crashed...

mclaren beat williams in japan because the williams drivers were useless in the wet...

in adelaide, it was only senna's skill that won the race for mclaren, hakkinen was never in the running even up untill his engine failure...

  • I will have to respectfully disagree. I still believe that the main advantage was the renault engine.

  • And you will not find a guy that is a bigger Senna fan than me, I will never say anything bad about him, but I do believe that his talent was the difference,,,its that I think that the mclaren was not as far off as most people think it was.

  • @dalebshelton Mansell was and extremely good driver in 1992. Just look at the fact that Mansell was far ahead of Patresse in most races despite Patresse having exactly the same car.

  • I do agree. Its a fine line we are talking about. I do think Senna was the best driver of his time, I think Mansell was the perfect guy for that this car...

  • @FormulaOneFan4Eva

the FW15 wasnt "much" better that the MP4/8

    80bhp was the difference mate!

  • @flipsidedogchop

agreed, the MP4/8 was a very fine car, but matched to the customer Ford V8, which wasn't even of the same spec Benetton used that year meant it couldn't hope to compete with the Williams on circuit were power was needed.

Had the McLaren been equiped with the same Ford V8 Benetton used, the championship might have been tighter still, and Senna may even have been champion. Schumacher's Ford V8 was good enough to grant him the title in 1994.

  • Last of the true breed of Grand Prix racercars.

Now F1 is so much better with these boring

aero-sensitive/aero-dirty spec-cars to promote driving skill.

    What B*.

I watch motorsport NOT for "driving skill", but because of the competition (and the technical competition is and important part of it).

Now F1 become a marketing business to sell drivers to the legions of blind fanboy worshipers.

Catch up to survive & innovate to win, that's how it used to be in the old days.

  • It is a fair comment.. Schumacher was rounding those corners at exactly the same speed in a Benneton.. did they screw up his car or what?

  • Schumacher wasnt as fast as Senna, Prost or Mansell despite having one of the best cars.

  • This Williams only needed a driver to push the car as fast as possible driving into cornes. If you had the currage to do it, the car stayed on track, and Nigel had that currage, unless Ricardo Patresse

  • Er.. did they forget how to do it on Senna's car in Imola 1994 then??? pfffft

  • sorry but thats not a fair comment.

1994 was the year that any electronic aid was prohibited.

that was the beginning of the problems for the williams chassis.

  • it was banned when senns went to williams

  • The system works well unless you see the 1993 Portugal race where Gerhard Berger spears off the road exiting the pit lane when the system thinks it is on the race track.

  • But the technology on the Active suspension of Williams was far ahead of the Mclaren had.

  • Berger was at Ferrari in 1993

  • No it was not. Like I said. Williams couldn't even keep up with Mclaren in the last 3 races of 93. Williams had 80 extra horsepower with the renault. Mclaren may have had a car that was just as advance. that extra power was the difference

  • >

^ True, the McLaren where just as advanced.

They lost the championship in 93 also due to poor reliability mid season.

When Prost won his 4 victories in a row Canada-France-Britain-Germany Senna had problems ans lost his points lead and the championship.

But in the last races McLaren where fast, and Benetton as well.

Shame Mosley and his minions ruined things.

  • @dalebshelton Williams had difficulty keeping up with Senna. He did say after Adelaide 93 how pressured he felt by Prost's superior speed, but managed to keep up consistency and his strategy helped. Apart from a weaker engine, McLaren had difficulty finding the balance between downforce and top speed and the car often was way too slow. Also Williams had more experience with their technology than McLaren, since they started earlier. Active suspension was new to McLaren and there were glitches

  • @VWaudiRULEs I can agree with that,,, If Senna would have had some reliability he would have been world champion even if the Mclaren was not nearly the the car the Williams was, He was right there in posistion to score points and win many races...And honestly...from about Monza On...He and the McLaren was the fastest combo on the track.

  • @dalebshelton The difference was that McLaren had Senna. What Senna did in 93 in his McLaren was simply awesome. Infact, many F1 fans and I include myself in this, consider 93 as Senna's best year.

  • @chrismarkbicknell I consider the 1991 season Senna's best. Although he had some tremendus drive in 1993. He went for a more of an all or nothing effort and had some mis haps and had more spectuacular drivers in 1993. In 1991. He didn't put a foot wrong and under huge pressure from a faster car stay out of trouble and qualified well time and time again. To me his 1991 season was better than anyone esle in history.

  • @dalebshelton I agree that 91 was also an awesome season for Senna. To be fair Senna was such an awesome taken that it is very difficult to pick out an out and out greatest year. i think the reason that I went for 93 is that Senna took a poor car by the scruff of the neck and put it in positions that it had no right to be in. By the way, if you are a Senna fan I have put a tribute video on my channell. Have a look & let me know what you think.

  • @chrismarkbicknell 93 certainly was more spectacular. But he pretty much didn't make a single mistake that year. That was just magic....l was in tears when he died.

  • wasn't lotus running Active in 1986? ive seen clips of senna blasting around monaco in a yellow lotus.

    fw14b and mansell . awesome.

  • That was '87. Lotus where the first F1 racing team to have Active suspension. Senna had the first (Monaco '87) and last (Australia '93) victory with active suspension.

  • Actually, the 1982 Lotus 91 was already fitted with some sort of active suspension.

  • @Pingguest

I think that was the 1987 Lotus 99, which Senna raced. Unfortunately computer power wasn't as advanced in 1987 and there were numerous glitches. What Lotus pioneered, Williams later perfected. The Williams FW07 of 1979-1981 was an improved "Lotus 79" one could argue.

  • Amazing active suspention, that´s the first time I see it working with details. That was astonishing in those times, no doubt, a champion car, one of my favorites of all times. God bless Adrian Newey and all Williams staff, they knew how to build good cars.
