  • i second the guy below me. Every rider crashes. It's a balance sport combined with incredibly powerful engines. People fall off skateboards, bicycles, dirt bikes, surfboards. It still amazes me some people think they can learn to ride & never crash. You will go down, period. So if it's not an activity you absolutely love, don't do it.

I've been down 3x so far. All random things: gravel/sand on a blind corner, puddle of oil on a country road, and front tire lockup under braking. Ride safe. :D

  • I don't know.. maybe I'm a little crazy here, but maybe... just possibly... STICKING ROWS OF METAL PIPES ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD MIGHT BE A STUPID, DANGEROUS THING? maybe? ... just a little? Here in the usa, we have these things called guard rails, or we have nothing and all and you go into that hill behind you. It's almost like they're trying to maim you!

  • Those road barriers are literally like death spikes on the side of the road. In the U.S. we have steel guard rails for every single road barrier in the country. Not that hitting a guard rail on a super bike is any safer than what he did but the bike definitely wouldn't have split into pieces and he might have gone sliding down the road or landed in the same place he did but without his arms chopped off. But getting his limbs smacked slowed him down a bit so the impact would have killed him.

  • I feel sorry for this guy, wish it didn't work out that way, bikes are a lot of fun, and geting carreid away is very easy when your on a sport bike.. I was very lucky when I crashed my motorcycle going 75-90mph, wearing helmet, leather jacket, and layers.. I managed to walk away with only a broken hand. I'm very lucky and fortunate, and I thank GOD for this. Now, after having a close call, I learned to respect a bike for what it is, and that I too am not invinicble.

  • @Angelus12308 mabey ppl didnt like this because this happen to him and 68 ppl like that this happen to him ever think of that

  • A Harsh lesson learned :(

  • I think the way he describes it explains alot this is what speeding will do. unexperienced rider + de-restricted bike + over confidence = painful crash , still feel sorry for the guy.

  • well done for doing this Luke...your a very lucky guy...... I wish you all the best in your future....

  • Sure you can! Just get shifter or automatic bike. Never stop riding!

  • get back on the bike!

  • @Angelus12308 That suit is a bit over a grand. I read your comment and looked it up because it sounded interesting, but there's no way I'm buying that.

  • @CommanderKairu it all depends on how much ur life is worth to you. i ride and i almost spent as much on riding gear than the price of my bike. 2 piece leather suit, gloves, racing boots and of course helmet. Missing back protector but its coming soon i hope. i havent gone down yet but im prepared for it if it happens

  • for the people going on about protective gear please give it a rest.. this lad had his crash because he passed his test and it should of been restricted to 33bhp but as he admitted in the video at 1:17 this was the reason he crashed, if you look at the bend its a good flowing bend and its a 70mph limit which means he will have been going well in excess of this probably 80-90mph at least.. if he wud of kept the restrictor on i bet he wud be ok today. i do agree with the flexi plastic markers tho.

  • @cocker111

Bit of a moot point. The average restricted 600 sportsbike will still do in excess of 80 or 90mph. This lad probably crashed due to a combination of inexperience and sheer bad luck.

  • @cocker111 the restrictors wouldn't stop the bike before 90mph at all, im a bike technician and as far as ive seen between a 600 that's restricted and one that's not, the only noticeable difference is over 100mph, and we have had 2 stock 600's on a private road to compare. also i don't see the point in the A1 and A class licenses. is someone that's over 21 a better rider than a under 21 with the same amount of experience. i don't think so

  • @SensaiPsycho okay so your saying a 600cc sports bike thats restricted to 33bhp accelerates to 90mph at the same pace as one running full power say for example with 100bhp. im sorry but the lad had the accident because he had taken the restrictor off thats why the law is in place to prevent this kind of accident happening..

  • @SensaiPsycho

Generally over 21's are more sensible and are more respectful of other road users.

But I agree, there are still too many idiots on the road who are over 21. But the problem is worse for cars than bikes as twats in corsas tend to kill others whereas twats on bikes tend to kill themselves (or leave their leg behind - ay Luke?!!)

  • And yet I bet the council hasn't removed these lethal bollards.

  • Sad.

    "...speed was a big factor..."

  • thats why its so important to always wear full biking gear. leather jacket, pants, riding boots, armored gloves, helmet and if possible a neck brace (can easily save your spine from snapping).

the leather jacket he was wearing saved his arm. if he had more gear, he might have been slightly safer

  • The bollards need to be replaced with flexible reflective plastic markers that are used in other countries.

The markers simply flip back up after being hit with almost unnoticeable damage to marker and vehicles after contact with each other.

If this fellow would have had an accident with the flexi markers, he would have most likely walked away with only minor scuffs and bruises from making contact along the ground.

Kids have crashed bikes into flexi markers for fun.

    Shows how safe they are.

  • @nokithecat If he had done this in the US, he would have died. They are fond of concrete walls or steel rails around here. Both of which are designed to take a car impact without giving way.

  • I really feel for you lad, hope your ok with it all now

  • That's such a shame to have something like that happen. I'm a young rider as well and came off my bike recently, albeit at a fairly low speed (but too quickly for the tight turn). Luckily it was only on a car park and involved no one else but me. I came off with minor bruising. I was wearing my full gear as well. I'm glad it happened at that time, on my ER-5 at 10/20mph because it woke me up. It could have been a higher speed on a main road with other traffic. Be humble as my instructer told me.

  • i was a crazy mother on bike until last year when i watched two of my close friends die on the side of the road.you can have all the best protection money can buy but it only protects really against burns while sliding on ground.i really hope the guy in this video can get on with his life as normal as possible and wish him all the best.but i will never ride again on public roads, since that day i take it on the track its higher speed ,more fun and there aint nothing really to hit.

  • i just had a bike accident this morning on wakefield road, bradford. was going to hit 1 car which would have taken my life but i hit another and got away with broken toe and scratches all over. no im in bed realising it could have been worse

  • poor lad

  • That's horrifying. Wow. I'm not gonna speed again on my bike.

  • wrong reaction...

  • i was speeding on my dirtbike at this field and i got the cops called on me now i cant ride anymore

  • i had many crashes and always be very lucky, but because life is unpredictable i stop road riding before is too late, this guy is an hero, i wish him all the best

  • At the beginning of every riding season, I do things to remind myself of what can happen... such as watch terrible crashes, and videos like this. When I get on my bike, this message has been etched into my brain.

    Thanks for posting this.

May all my 2-wheel brothers learn from this.

  • I do the same thing - watch crash vids to shock myself to behave. Great video.

  • The pillars shouldnt be there. They are dangerous for bike riders.. As the video shows. Even without speeding (as this guy admits), we can make mistakes. and these pillars are just deadling.

Speed needed to rip off his leg and almost arm?

  • I would have thought you would want to forget something like that and not keep the bollard connected as a memento

  • u still gota life mate .. be thankful for what u got n keep on doin wachya love ..

  • All the best in the future man

  • I consider myself to be a careful rider but every now and again (just like many of us) i do get throttle happy.

Thanks for reminding me of the consequences and sharing the video.

Best wishes on the road to recovery ....

  • they are there to protect pedestrians from idiot drivers

  • @lf282 Pedestrians walking on the side of the highway? >>

  • Heavy stuff, this vid will make me a safer rider.

  • makes you think

  • good vid mate

will teach the numpties these days

that just like showing off and think riding is a game . when its not.

better a lost leg then a lost life thoo init ..

hope fully people will learn from this vid

  • this is why i do trackdays.

i constantly felt the need for speed before i hit the track, was doing crazy (stupid) speeds through the twisties... ever since i started racing i almost never speed. riding has become so much safer thats for sure.

i agree with them bollards though, thats fuckin rediculous to have em there.... someone certainly wasnt thinking bout safety when they put em there.

  • It's exactly what happens to noobs who don't have any bloody driving experience, but really want to show off to their dumb girlfriend or friends on their shiny superbikes.

  • no need for that mate.

i can honestly say im one of lukes friends and it was nothing to do with showing off whats sooo ever!!!

so get your facts right before you go on here saying shit that aint true!!

  • if this video was meant to scare me straight.... it did a pretty good job

  • good vid mate,

It let people think about the things there doing.

Though people forget it once their on the bike :(

  • god bleess u broo. im a mexican andim really sorry but u are strogg..

i want to buyy a moto but i`ve should think twice...

    regards=)

  • thanks for the upload, it made me think more to be carefull.

Yes you always think it don't happend to me bad luck man. thanks for the upload. Hey mabay in the future you can try a trike if you want(if you ever want to drive again) Thanks take care

  • fucking numptys for putting bollards. whe would have just slid without them

  • lol whats a numpty .. i like that word . but those bollards are pointless

  • Fuck, that was painfull!! soory for that dude
