i graduated college the year of kent state, so you can imagine that i was in the heart of rock 'n' roll. that same year, i happened to catch "swiss movement" by eddie harris and les mccann, which featured a ten minute version of this gene mcdaniels classic. and i've been a jazz fan ever since, moving to what is called smooth jazz since george benson's "breezin."

Jazz doesn't have to be focused towards a certain age, it's for whoever can truly enjoy it. Just for the record. I guess in my personal opinion; I think Eric Marienthal is the greatest saxophone player of the current generation. Then again, I might be a little biaist too because I played with him twice, and soon to be a third time too.

How old are you? In Russia, there are many jazz fans who are in their early 20-s, so there`s no reason to say it is hard for you to be one if you`re young :) Jazz has no borders, no age, no race, no gender :) Jazz is freedom itself!

I first started listening to jazz aged 15 I'm now 47, age did'nt come into it if you are drawn to a particular style of music let it take you on a ride and enjoy it! I've never, never regreted it and I'm sure you won't!

Eric Marienthal is 1 of the best alto sax players around and i think alot of smooth jazz fans r sleep on this guy.Pick up Easy Street(my Favorite), Just Around The Corner,Got you covered (like he says), Street dance, or One Touch. Hes really good =)

Eric is good on alto, but for my taste he plays a to "popy" style. And in terms of real-time improvising, style he is never ever the best on alto (or even one of them)

Mater Dei highschool's 1st annual Red Hot Jazz concert... his son goes there... he was our celebrity soloist and we were the backing band... and the whole band jammed a lot during rehersals... hes really fun...
