  • I'm sorry... I got distracted by your good looks :-)

  • can't this just MAKE THEM install the pluging, or run it somehow...

cause if the user is using IE he is so idiot that won't install it!

  • I just about came in my pants when I found this.

  • ahhh ! I Don't Use Google Chrome ... I USE SAFARI !

  • browserception

  • Shame on Micro$oft. Google has to write code for yu.

  • Wow, i.e. sucks so bad that even google has to make something as if to say "Come on man, have some respect for yourself, put this on"

  • i want that t-shirt

  • 0:20 LOL'ing forever.

  • for pure awesomeness:

    1. regedit.exe: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\ChromeFrame\IsDefaultRenderer

    2. If ChromeFrame isn't there, make the key under Google, then make IsDefaultRenderer a DWORD.

    3. Make IsDefaultRenderer a 1.

    enjoy awesomeness

  • I saw a really good presentation by the guy. Reminded me to go and rewatch it. :P

  • i love his shirt

  • Would that bring any more spying side effects ;)

  • Opera is by far the best browser available and has been for a long time. Forget the National Security Agency controlled Google and go Opera.

  • Alex is cute, hi Alex.

  • THAT GUY LOOKS LIKE A DOUCHEBAG

  • This is why I love Google. They are helping their competition just for the greater good of the internet.

  • luv gOoGle ChRoMe

  • nice shirt

  • so why make a frame? why not just get people to install google chrome itself?

  • @0501701 because google are not greedy money grabbing people like microsoft, they like to give people choices, and not force their products on people like MS do

  • @0501701 As a developer I can tell you it's almost impossible to get older people, and I'm not talking senior citizens, I'm talking more like baby boomers and 40 year old folks to ditch their shitty Internet Explorer 6 browsers for modern current ones. In third world countries, also, many companies still use Internet Explorer 6 for their intranets, namely, in China.

  • @mrbrockpeters I think that is because IE is better if you use other languages .

I am using IE beacause google chrome is horrible when browsing arabic sites.

  • @MrFadhel07 yeah, that's true also.

  • OMFG, why is google soo nice, i was about to give up on attempting to build pages that work in IE along with all other browsers

  • google chrome frame supports websockets?

if yes how to program I'm not able.

  • Google has to build a work around for IE because Microsoft is to stupid to do it right xD

  • I believe chrome is the best browser for developers and it is simple to use for normal users.

  • I think my internet explorer browser is 07 or 08... Will this change the design of the web (address bar, File Edite View Favorites Tools Help, And Tag) page? Because i haven't had Interenet Explorer 07/08 for even a year and finally got used to it and i don't want it to change again.

  • @lauren1344 It won't affect the design of Internet Explorer at all - it only changes the part that interprets the design of the websites you view.

Basically what it does is take a terrible browser (Internet Explorer) and give it support for all of the new, modern web technologies. Average users probably don't know or care what these technologies are but basically they allow Web Designers to make much better, faster sites that Internet Explorer cannot display without Chrome Frame.

  • @lauren1344 Or to summarize: your browser is old, insecure, unsupported by everyone, very slow and seriously holding back progress on the web.

  • I don't like Google Chrome. I love Google Chrome Frame and Google Chrome! Well, not in a gay way.

  • So i need to force my clients or users to install Google Chrome Frame in thier machine in order to acquire this function right? Did you guys think that will they will do so? Better stay inside Standards instead of asking my users to install some third party plugins just for running my website or app. i dont like loosing visitors. I dont care about this. This is the first time i say Sorry to Google!!!

  • @najeebputhiyallam I concur. This is just stupid. And who with a sane mind want to develop in yet another standard. When it already is a pain in the ass to fix all problems for IE

  • Why does this guy look like a douchebag?

  • then.. y don't we use... GOOGLE CHROME!

  • One problem, the idiots that use Internet explorer aren't going to install this plug-in for their browser.

  • @TheUnillogical I am using a computer at the moment that is not mine, I can´t simply install another browser and the owner of the computer understands nothing about informatics, so he won´t let me do anything that he wouldn´t understand, that is NOTHING. So in order to use the websites i am used to, i can install now Chrome Frame. That improves IE A LOT. And even better he will never now I installed it.

  • @webcoolio - Yeah but you're in the minority

  • @TheUnillogical i installed the plugin. >:(

  • @123RoboticChicken - ark at you.

  • @TheUnillogical ark?

  • @TheUnillogical i'm doing it since i am that idiot,jk

  • anyways IE9 will fully support HTML 5, there are some demos available already, worth checking out

  • I have installed it; does it need to add this line also ?!

where and how should i add this ??

  • It's FREE It's FAST it's It's PERFECT! GOOD JOB!

  • @scottgale379 Sorry, Im just feeling the pressure to keep me from the easy direct acces to .flv video files in IE6 cache folder. The else fancy things like "open web technologies" and "rich cutting edge web apps" wich need

"html5 and recent improvements in javascript pefomance" and for wich all the commotion is, are from my sight just excuse for it.

  • 2012, learn more about the Google Chrome Frame.

  • One advantage of the facilities and opportunities in time

  • @aellaron IE6 has the slowest rendering engine of any browser, and thus has the highest likelyhood of locking up your browser and making it crash.

    All modern browsers cache files.

Java and Flash have nothing to do with Chrome Frame.

Getting rid of IE6 is about making the web faster, easier, and leaner. Even Microsoft wants to get rid of it. It's time. If you are not forced to run IE6, don't drag the whole web community down by running a 10 year old piece of software.

  • Google Chrome makes my PC to crash, IE6 does not. IE6 allows me to acces the cache files with .flv videos, none of new browswrs does. So why should I trust you with all "new functions" of jawa&flash co. wich are mostly used just for new annoying advertisment methods?

  • HTML5 beta still sucks, dont get it

  • People could just switch to a browser that doesn't suck monkey balls.

  • I'm a web developer, and I can't thank Google enough for this. I get nauseas just from listening the words "internet" and "explorer" on the same phrase. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

  • Weird.

If I want to run Chrome I just install Chrome period.

This thing is installing Chrome and it's running it in the shape of IE

    Isn't this what viruses do?

  • @peppeddu Nope.

  • Dear google don't you think it will be a smart idea to include the notification that you need to add cf: to the url?

    Found out thanks to TheFreeppvs

  • The only problem is getting end-users to actually install the plugin.

  • google chrome crush on its had with its V8 javascript

    when editing dokuwiki sites :(

google chrome engine still has many bugs.

i am so upset that i used google chrome.

i have typed a full article then it shows an ugly face of a computer and says something kind of your frame cruched and all my creativity was lost in amoment

    (compared to ie6)

the bug is probably related to object references to input elements, when docuwiki is automaticaly adds asterisks to textarea and checks where the cursor is

  • @shimondoodkin I can't even respond to your comments because they are so incoherent.

  • @shimondoodkin go use txt. it crashes less than microsoft office you know. less likely to screw with your creativity ^^

  • lol Wow what fail first off to even get the frame working which Google don't tell you the frame will not work on any pages at all unless you put cf: at the begenning on the url

  • Thre's just one... okay, 2 massive problems with Chrome Frame...

You need admin rights to install it.

And by default, IE does not use Chrome Frame, unless you add "cf:" to the beginning of the URL.

The only workaround is to simply install some kinda .reg file.

It is not that difficult for Google to include it themselves, and many web developers probably havn't a clue of that tag thing's existance. So Google, fix it so Chrome Frame works by default, and make an offline installer. Thanks.

  • Interesting, so we basically allow google chrome to render our pages based on v8 javascript and other fast stuff. Nice.

  • I find this comment to be worthless.

  • But hey whatever I wrote a whole text and deleted and the feeling is the same even if you'll never read and never know what I wrote just moments ago. Try it out sometime... feels equally great and there's no "pong" from the "ping" sent to receive. Cheers

  • I have no idea what you are talking about.

  • lol anyone notice that chrome logo is a reworkin of the windows flag logo there is an image out there that shows the transformation and it rocks

  • That's bollocks. Prolly an american thing and their mania of conspiracy theories. There's 7 colors and those upthere have been looking more than good since ever why change that? Because it looks like windows look? Hell not! But it might be good fools thinking of conspiracy because it makes pub of it and it helps to spread the word. Just my opinion.. not to take serious... i'm just another fool and there will come other and other like a cycle. Nice :o) Cheerio

  • I want that t-shirt

  • Well this sucks. Why not just use Google chrome?

  • The intention is to allow restricted computers which cannot install new software like browsers, can just install Google Chrome Frame. IE still has a shitload of market share.

  • Reatricted computers, though most likely don't allow admin access, so MASSIVE flaw.

They need to make a .zip, that has all the files, all you have to do is copy them into the right location.

  • @7960Dan its for developers to ease the dev testing process since IE is a bag load of shit that renders lot of stuff horribly

  • why the fuck GOogle is trying to improve Internet Shitlorer ?

  • coz most of users use it , and thats make the life developer as hell

  • "hi mister Windows, I'm Google and I rebuilt your application, bye!"

  • he reminds me of charles trippy

  • Trying to make IE good? Well....

    1) IE SUCKS. NO QUESTION.

    2) Google has a good product. PUSH IT MAN!!!!!

  • Are all the engineers there this cute?

  • @sa1994kimo Are you a dude? If so don't be a faggot!

  • @sa1994kimo u ain't kidding. he's HOT!

  • @sa1994kimo u ain't kidding. he's HOT! msexige00

  • @sa1994kimo Thats what i was thinking the entire time!!! lol

  • @sa1994kimo probably not. Most programmers I know look like a yeti or sasquatch. Hairy bearded tubby dudes, who are brilliant and kind but don't look they can get a girl to go out with them. In fact, the more brilliant they are, the bigger their beards.

  • @mrbrockpeters What an acute observation!

  • Great intentions...but bad idea.

As it is..IE6 is the baby that should never have been born. By allowing stubborn IE6 users to "prolong its usage" via this plugin will just perpetuate the crime that is IE6. Furthermore, most corporations that still insist and use IE6, will most likely not approve installation of this plugin. Individuals who still use IE6, will prob not even know this plugin exists. I say, let IE6 die its long overdue death and not prolong it with this plugin.

  • so we can improve the web together :)

  • It works fine, but not great. Installing the plugin comes with some problems.

It uses the webkit engine and the output SHOULD be identical to chrome's output, if you install the plugin and have the meta-tag. I tested it, and the performance increase is noticable. I was like o.0: IE with fluid JS animations :o

    it's amazing :D

But not ready... YET. I would like to see the result! keep it going :D

  • Much love for google <3

  • Chrome Frame is good for enterprises since they can still use IE6 for their intranet and not have to deploy a 2nd browser for internet surfing. Of course you lose tabs but most corporations don't want to upgrade their old apps since it's very expensive and time consuming. Eventually they'll upgrade if W7 gets mass business adoption.

  • tabs aren't lost

  • Why would it cost money to install applications?

To have a "professional" install it? *rolleyes*

It doesn't take a professional to double click installer.exe

  • I think the issue is installing it on an organisation's systems- most companies prefer not to let people at their systems without paying them a lot of money first.

  • but it does to do it on more than 100 computers

  • @bazzo9 Netinstall, duh! Install from server!

  • We develop AJAX apps for businesses, many of whom are still using IE 6. Even IE 8 is a slow bag of spanners but trying to get a modern AJAX app to work in IE 6 whilst some IT director refuses to upgrade puts us in a very awkward position.

This plugin will save us years of work, and more importantly finally set about killing the useless pile of cack that is IE.

We intend to "ditch" all IE support as of today and force IE to run ChromeFrame

  • Thank YOU GOOGLE!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been trying forever to get my site to work with IE... I have come to the point where I dropped support for it... this makes it possible for IE to view my site correctly !!!!!! thank you so much I LOVE YOU GUYS

    my site is savemoot com

try it with without chromeframe.... it is Terrible

i mean... IE doesn't know what an inline-div is seriously

  • "The last IE" I thought I'll never see IE death. Hurray! You are genious guys!

  • wow, he is cute ;P

    anyways: i like chrome^^

  • Brilliant idea - love the thought. Lets see how Microsoft reacts to this one. Will they try to "annoy" plugin users like they did with the Flash plugin once? Secondly, now we just need to make valid XHTML code and test that one 4-5 browsers... knowing that there will be a solution for the Javascript/AJAX - has anyone tried how Jquery etc. works with the plugin yet?

  • i rather stay with my green screen ibm

  • i did the acid 3 test and failed ^^

  • thats because chrome frame only runs on websites that request it... acid 3 does not have the meta tag chrome frame request

    DUH j/k but seriously

  • Or just get Firefox. Haha.

  • I LOVE google chrome

  • Right with you. Wooh. Plugins owk!

  • this is awesome. a function of a trojan. let's beat microsoft from within.

  • And what's the point? Users who won't go download a new browser aren't going to go download a new browser plug-in either. Any good webdev knows he has to make his site work in IE without Chromeframe, so this plugin will do very little for users who don't have it.

Google, if you wanted IE users to download something that lets them switch to the chrome engine seamlessly, you should've just made an IE-styled skin for Chrome. Too obvious a solution I guess.

  • I suppose you failed to see that this plugin would still be very useful when used in controlled environments for things like corporate intranet applications. An IT coordinator may not want to change the browser they use but they may certainly be more willing to add a plugin across the board.

  • An edge case that does not validate the resources that went into creating this plugin. Unfortunately, I don't think intranet webdevs without the ability to code an app that renders in IE were the target audience for Chromeframe.

My point remains: this plugin will not change anything. The typical IE user is catered to by every legitimate website, and therefore has no need of a plugin that lets him pass Acid tests. Practically no one will bother downloading it.

  • Though your point remains very valid as the target audience certainly will not change, us developers should still be very thankful for just one more route that can be taken as a good solution. Anything that helps us fight Microsoft's poor standards is always appreciated.

  • It is more of a slap to Microsoft for not dropping support of IE 6. With Microsoft being such a big player in the computer world, they essentially can control the internet in a sense. So this is not really trying to get IE users to switch, it is more so to get Microsoft to catch up with technology.

  • Add the agenda-push tag to your page (which I guarantee Google will do to each of their web applications) and your page will direct you right to the Chrome Frame download page!

Trust me, if users are too lazy to switch away from IE, that more likely supports that notion that they are also sheepish enough to simple "click to install and continue to my page."

  • I have to directly disagree, I do computer maint. around my town for spare cash, I don't know how many times I've shown a user "Here, this is Chrome, it's better, use it." and I come back two weeks later and find them using IE and wondering why it's sluggish. They go around installing toolbars and whatnot constantly but they won't switch to Chrome. This is the perfect thing to help bridge that gap!

  • It's a step in the wrong direction to require users to install a plugin to use your site. Whatever happened to graceful degradation? I for one, when faced with a site that says "You must download this software to see my page," am going to run away screaming.

Fellow webdevs: yes, IE is abysmal, and every iteration is just a new level of quirkiness to deal with. But it's your JOB to code for numerous clients. Broaden your site's browser support, don't limit the user. That's lazy.

  • I'd rather see them drop support for IE 5/6 entirely instead of finding ways to render websites as modern browsers would do. A web designer still has to make a second version of his website because IE 5/6 doesn't support it. Not everyone will download the plugin, as it causes unnecessary hassle. A browser upgrade is the better solution.

Just leave IE 6 as it is. Eventually, it will go away. There are more switchers every day, and even my university switched from IE 6 to IE 8 a few weeks ago.

  • ToBeTie wrote: "Not everyone will download the plugin, as it causes unnecessary hassle"

Yeah, but downloading another browser is also an "unnecessary hassle" in the eyes of the folks still using a f*cking old browser such as Internet Explorer 6 (eight years old already, and counting), so for those people who refuse to upgrade, a plug-in is better because the user interface of their (for some unfathomable reason) favorite browser is unchanged! So this is a good step forward for the web.

  • I wish Mozilla do the Firefox Frame - the Gecko plugin to be used in IE, Chrome, Opera :-)

This way my XUL Web CMS would have really no limits...

  • T-shirt under a t-shirt. Just how many shirts do you need?

  • Google kicks Microsoft in the A**.

  • And this helps Mac users how? Microsoft dropped IE for Mac 3 years ago.

  • nice tshirt

  • nice tshirt

  • Alex is yummy.

  • So, what is this thing about really? I love google chrome. Does this Google Chrome Frame mean Internet Explorer will look like Google Chrome now when I use it?

  • I don't like google chrome because it shows the pages you visited and you can't erase it. That is why I don't use it.

  • Yes you can, just press Ctrl+Shift+Del or go under the wrench to "Clear Browsing Data".

Or you can also browse in an incognito browser which does not save anything you visit.

  • You Press Ctrl+Shift+N and you open "incognito window" which doesn't save anything you do on the web. Hence the name of it....

  • Yeah I know but it is still a pretty lame setup if you asked me.

  • Long live open source.

  • What is with that shirt?

  • I like it. Plus Google try and show their work place as a fun and innovative place for work and ideas. So I can see why they would allow it. It doesn't make them look like any less of a company.

  • I can't imagine how much money this guy names. A software engineer? Holy shit dude.

  • You shot a rocket launcher at Microsoft when you announced Chrome OS. But this? Nuclear warhead.

  • Can you also release a plug-in that'll bring Chrome's features, such as tabs management, to IE8? I like Chrome, but I also like IE8. Once Chrome gets full extension support for mouse-gestures, I'll take a deep look at switching to Chrome.

This plug-in should be great for Gmail using IE8!

  • Alex, kick asss.

  • That guy has a SWEET shirt!!

  • So ALL you simply have to do is :

1.) Put that tag on all the billions of pages on the web.

2.) Make sure everyone using IE who cant/wont install Google chrome on their computers successfully installs this program from Google instead.

...and it will be like they are are all using chrome?

    Sign me up,!

Where do i go to get my hat and robe?

  • Useless invention really. People who use IE are either not tech-savvy enough to realize there's other options or are uber-diehard Microsoft fanboys. Neither of which are going to install this plugin.

  • This is great and all, but when is Google Chrome coming out for OS X?

  • There is already a developer preview released if I remember correctly.

    Check it out.

  • You can use Firefox or Safari for Wave on OS X.

  • Well, yeah. I already have Safari 4.

  • Safari rocks :P

  • Where did he get that t-shirt?

  • Weird. Google Chrome Experiments don't work in the IE with Chrome frame. However, other sites are extremely faster with the frame.

  • Is this not the definition of ownage?

  • i dont use it.. i use safari for windows. is the fastest.

  • No. It's not fastest. Chrome v.3 is the fastest browser for Windows.

  • Hehe, you got me for a second

    APRIL APRIL!

  • Internet Explorer!!? I don't even want that to improve.

  • I agree

  • Can't face the camera? This is an app that puts Google's awesomeness in the place of MS IE sucky-ness. This is more important then his ability to talk to the plastic box stealing his soul.

Use it, improve it, pass it on.

  • web art -beautiful!

This is like forgiving Microsoft for everything, and moving on.

This is how nature itself overcomes man-made pollution - if it is given time.

  • Ultimate insult :p haha

  • Microsoft just got pwnd.

  • Surely anyone who knows enough to think installing an alternate rendering engine in IE is a good idea ISN'T USING IE ANY MORE.

  • for IE? no thanks!

  • The web can get so much better if people stop using IE :P

  • Great for those assholes who cannot find anything worse than IE to browse the web

  • looks like you haven't understood the concept ... since it's just a meta tag, there won't be a message to install any program

only for those who have installed the plugin the site will be rendered like webkit

  • From the GCF homepage:

"If Google Chrome Frame is not installed, you can direct your users to an installation page. "

Yep, and people wont use that?

And there wont be any "Google Chrome Frame"-only sites?

Just like there are no "adobe flash"-only sites.

Because people just aren't that stupid? =))

  • What we have been waiting for! THANK YOU GOOGLE. Replace that outdated Internet Explorer Rendering Engine..

Really happy about you guys.. thanks ^^

  • SHOOOOOOOP =D

  • that's ok cos they're geeks. I'm a geek and I;m very uncomfortable in front of a camera. But, I'm the best at what I do.

  • True, they should rather hire some MBA people with extravagant clothes and lots of hairgel to do some fancy powerpoint presentations...

  • Internet explorer ripped off Netscape and literally destroyed them. Now, Google came with another browser which didn't "rip off" but gave the answer that need to be given to MS. Chrome > Crappy internet Explorer and Google > Microsoft. I love Google!
