  • I'm a professional zoologist. Opossums carry many parasites: one of these being fleas. If you handle an opossum, you could bring of those parasites into your home. You also do not always know what the cause of death is. You could be catching an inter-species disease.

  • Glad I found my 7 orphans already post-pouch. I can't imagine the work in keeping pinkies alive...

  • This will come in handy someday... someday.

  • EW!

  • so sad =[

  • oh what do you now? the day after i watched this video i found a dead mother possum with babies in her pouch. There were seven but sadly one died because my stupid cat was steaping all on him after my mom called either an animal rehabilitator or something else.

  • Aww critters :(

  • i didnt even think to do that but from now on i will check all the dead possoms for babies and try and get them the help they need to survive! thank you!

  • Anyone who bothers to stop and check a dead animals pouch for young will go straight to heaven. Its a commendable thing to do and it takes someone with dignity and who is proud to share this planet with others besides humans. I've saved a few Kangaroos, Possums etc. Another good reason to check the pouch for young is to get to them before Crows etc do. If the youngun is not going to make it due to obvious severe fractures ect its good that we can help stop is pain and suffering too if need be.

  • we found a dead momma possum in the middle of the street and my boyfriend noticed how "something" was moving it was a possum fetus just like these ones i took them out one by one, there was 5 i was wondering whats goin to happen will they live? because we had animal control take them

  • Thanks for all you do... my mom did the same thing when we lived in Virginia. Not to the same degree as you, but any injured animal, even a dead possum and especially during litter season, she'd pull over if she saw one on the road to inspect for any babies still alive...

  • @theWarmth2k7 Give a "thank you" to your mom for me.

  • ouch! awwww...

  • and women complain about breast feeding.

  • wow that sucker was really on there.

  • @nobody3654 they are stuck on there tight.

  • @meanowner How old are you? 10?

  • are you a little disabled?

  • you shouldnt pull a baby off of the teat as their mouths are fused. you are meant to cut teat off and pin it to the inside of the fake pouch so they dont swallow it. they will let go in their own time. forcing the teat from the mouth like that can cause injury and stress enough to kill. i am an expert in wildlife care going on 10 yrs

  • @MrRavenhaven you know whats funny? she also happens to be a wildlife expert

  • @TheHumbleTinkerer i have seen many animals come in that have been pulled from their mothers teats like this and it bruises their brains.

  • @MrRavenhaven Bruises their brains? Did you see the bruises in their brains? I've done this for years. They all survive and are perfectly healthy.

  • Bless you Mary for devoting your life to caring for these beautiful creatures. If it were not for the kindness and dedication of people like you, they would have no voice in this world. I love animals so much, but it takes a brave person to do what you do. I wish I could be that brave. I love your channel. Thank you for educating us all. My heart is in awe at every single one of your videos.

  • Thanks for the heads up. We always check pouches and some wildlife carer groups actually spay road kill they check to let the next considerate soul know that its been checked already. You have to be quick as the crows or other predatory animals including birds will go straight for the pouch young. I've seen some horrific sights as the pouch was left unchecked and the joey dies a horrible death. Every motorist who hits wildlife should make it their duty to at least pull the animal off the road.

  • Haha

  • This made me cry really hard.

But I'm glad they were taken care of :)

  • You are my new "perkins wild kingdom!!!"

  • that is sad that thier mother died but they will have you to take care of them

  • I admire your caring for these animals Mary.

  • Wooaahh. That is crazy. Opossums a creepy looking things, but one of my favorite animals.

  • OMG Mary those poor little babies :(

  • we learn something every time we watch your videos

  • you're an angel for saving them!

  • You're a saint. And you're saving your local Roadkill ops tons of work, say if it went splat all over the road.

  • Mary you rock as usual!!!! May you be blessed!!!!

  • thanks :)
