@iLoveMyGun89 - Accuracy within reason. can it out shoot a 50 BMG rifle costing 10 times it's price? Likely not.
But, it can shoot surplus ammo, where an Armalite AR-50 tends to fail. if you want an all purpose 50 BMG, light weight, low recoil, and accurate enough for most people, then this is the one. but if you want to be a competitive shooter and shoot against a CheyTac M200 Intervention, then you need to be realistic and spend around $10,000
I dont know if i could really consider the 50 a SHTF rifle. The ammo is just to much, at least for me, but it is cool that it uses an AR-15 lower. Neat none the less.
@pontiacmaniac2 - It's actually the company name. it's made by Safety Harbor. The way I have mine setup it's one inch longer than an M16A2, yet it's designed as an anti-material rifle on a budget (which is why I also sell them). as far as ammunition, it's far cheaper than many of the other calibers I shoot. 6,5x47 Lapua is $65 per 20 and 338 Lapua is $95 per 20
@Popsicle22754 - you lose around 100 fps, so it's a little less flat shooting at long range such as 1000 yards, but I rarely get a chance to shoot that far, so mobility is more important
@weaponeer 2 inches could mean 100 fps slower and less distance and considering i have no idea how to convert pounds into kilos i would have no idea how much lighter that is... i guess its good i wouldn't be lugging it around anyway (how much cheaper?)
@MahDixiNormas - 3.7 kg lighter, and several thousand dollars cheaper. for range and accuracy I would use the 338 Lapua rather than the 50 bmg. 338 holds the current longest sniper shots. I actually use my 6.5x47 Lapua for the long shots, with the 50 bmg used for closer range anti material
@MahDixiNormas - given the money I would rather have a CheyTac M-200 Intervention in 408, but it really comes down to what you really need and the task at hand as well as the funds to make it happen.
@ETHRON1 - I didn't see the article or the book, but it's likely the same company that made my upper receiver. I now use the Bipod made for this rifle, so my other bipod is back on my 6.6 Grendel, and I added one more 3 round mag. for a total of two 3rd and one 5 round
@ETHRON1 - the standard 50 BMG Ball is 650 gr. the ones in the video are surplus 833 gr Spotter Tracer (M48A2), reloaded into a 50 BMG case (the original M48A2s were loaded in a short case, and used with the 106mm recoiless rifle), and they exploded on contact producing a yellow flash and large puff of smoke. nearly all 50 BMG surplus ammo are commercial reloads (US demil requirement), so surplus is new powder and old bullets & brass.
@weaponeer Thanks, will post it up....some of the guys are interested in things like this...we had a posting awhile back on some other one out there...I personally would love to have it....Kinda like having the HOT ROD in the garage...if you know what I mean....thanks.
@ETHRON1 - just the standard Ar15 lower. there is no need for a larger more expensive frame. I have hundreds of rounds though mine with no wear at all on the lower.
@ETHRON1 the slow motion video is all in camera high speed video (300, 600 and 1200 fps). the video editor I use the most is Corel VideoStudio X3 which is the one I used for the photo montage videos.
@andr3i68 - the rifle in the video is not a 2000 yard rifle. it's designed for heavy targets out to 1000 yards. for 2000 you need an ultra long barrel to retain the velocity. now the longer the barrel the more recoil you get with most .50's. The sniper distance record is held by the 338 and not the .50 bmg, so don't think that it takes a 50 to reach out that far.
@skinsup84 - I used to sell them, and may start selling them again. they are built to order, so there is a long wait before they ship. They are still being made.
@comblocarms - the Accuracy is the same no matter the barrel length, but you have a velocity loss of about 100 fps. it's a pretty accurate rifle if you have good optics. cost is around $100 under retail
@weaponeer I didn't know that about the rifle, great info! I'll go with the 22 inch one probably. Also, don't you have the SHF R50, not the SHTF50? Your's is the better mag fed one. They may have changed their naming system, as you built yours years ago. Finally, is it a sub-moa rifle with match ammo?
@comblocarms - when I bought mine it was still called the UltraMag 50. the 18 inch version is about 1 inch longer than an M16A2, and runs about 17 lbs. the longer the barrel the more recoil you have, so this one has very low recoil for a 50. for sub-MOA you have to go to the very high end rifles, and expect to pay around $10k for a base model. This is a far more practical 50 BMG and much more affordable.
@comblocarms - I don't shoot Match ammo, or reload. I shoot only Surplus Ball, API, and Tracer. My range was only 100 yards locally, and I just moved to an area with a 200 yard range, so I cannot shoot for distance much, I shoot at 650 from time to time and it's only a couple demo rounds, and I seem to be shooting a little high at 650 (think my adjustment was for 1000). It's just a bit expensive to buy match and burn up 50 rounds for sight in and groups.
@weaponeer 50 cal match is expensive, true. Does the SHTF-50 have an extractor on the bolt? Every video I see I see that people have to manually dump the round out. If I pull the bolt back does the empty brass fly out on its own?

@Guyya93 - not the upper. the upper is an UltraMag Upper built by safety harbor. best of all the 50 BMG UltraMag requires no FFL. (I built the FFL Part, which in this case is not saying much)
@kingofheartsxyz - I have a number of old videos showing it being fired. hopefully this summer I can shot another video in 1080P HD in 300 FPS high speed
Wow, light for a 50BMG, Would be funny if you gave a video game player a Tac-50 or something and full load and tell him to a 40 yard dash, He would quickly see how fast video games are really fake.
Sweet. I had this exact setup in mind, but I didn't think of that carry handle attachment. Not sure if I will go with this upper or a Beowulf though. Any thoughts?

i noticed that you have a habit of saying that you "built" this in this video and others as well.
what part of this did you build?
it looks just like the upper i bought from safety harbor.
mine came fully assembled.
i just assembled an extra lower without the mag catch/dscnctr, swapped hammer and spring and clipped it on.
one thing it does need is a better trigger.
how are your groups at 1k?
with amax my best 3 shot group was 13 7/8 but my 5 shot opened up to 19 3/4.
still not broke in
