IF you think about it most of the love stories anyone's ever come up with end up with one of them losing the other, for the second time in some way. That's just how they work. It lets the viewer feel a little bit more passionate and sympathetic with spike and lets us know that bad things happen to everyone, not just ourselves which too often is the cause of depression. I think Jupiter Jazz is a very calming and settling episode (I've seen it several times and own the box set).
