i don't care whether they hate our country or not! the thing i really hate about this band is when they called filipinos gorillas and when they said our country is a terrible place. c'mon filipinos we can live without such an arrogant band!
@ajfanofeheads They were forced to give the money they were paid for doing the concerts to the officials/crooks at the airport or the gov't. wasn't going to let them leave the country. That and the fact that they were kicked and punched while inside the airport terminal waiting to get on the plane.
@ColorfulHyena You should never be ashamed to be a Filipino :) Everyone I know who has spent any amount of time there has told me how kind the people of the Philippines are...in fact my friend got stationed there when he was about twenty-one years old and found himself a wife. After he retired from the military years later, he moved to the Philippines (with his wife and children) and eventually became a citizen.
Now I know why the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and many others did not come here. Speaking of Zeppelin, they had their own disaster in Italy. Nothing to do with the government at all but with a violent riot that broke out betwixt the police and the audience. Flying bottles forced the band off the stage where Bonham's drums were left behind. The band, their road manager, and the crew hid in a locked room until things died down.
@MachoCamacho6541 She got angry at them for not coming to the Malacanang Palace and perform there. So the news went out and now the whole Philippines got mad at them. I'm a Philippine citizen myself but I'm a fan of The Beatles.
if we haven't rid them off here in the Philippines in the first place, they would come back here for more, i guess we we're too dumb and ignorant enough to know that we have wasted a such historical moment that the Philippines would have. saying that the beatles would come to the pinas, well there are a lot of nation down there they chose here, logic we filipinos sometimes are ignorant. pffffttt sad to say im a filipino
I really find it disappointing how Imelda Marcos made such a fuss about the Beatles refusing to have lunch with her. She's the sole reason why the greatest president this country and the whole of Asia has ever seen fell in disgust and international scrutiny. The Beatles are the world's first radical and non-political figures in the music industry, they left a legacy that will surely be remembered and embraced by generations to come... if Justin Bieber will die soon, i hope.
hate you marcos people, you made the best band in the world hate us and not want to go back to the Philippines, im glad we won't give you a statehood burial
they didnt even know about the invitation, the manager never said anything about it.filipino's reacted as if they were disrespected and expected THE BEATLES to jump when Marcos said jump! They didnt and McCartney now says he is glad they didnt show up coz Marcos turned out to be whatever it is that he was.but treating THE BEATLES badly when all the BEATLES wanted to do on their off day was sleep, just shows what bad manners their hosts had.
@towncarguy04 / For years I read they knew nothing of the invite. But in an Anthology interview, Macca talks about having a day-off, + says they told Brian they were not doing anything that day. If you listen to the interview, he speaks as though they were fully aware of the invitation. But as one Beatle author wrote, not only have the Beatles contradicted each other over the years, but they have contradicted themselves (the author's point was that it is difficult to get a definitive history).
@August8th1969 this happened in 1966.by the time whatever interview you are talking about happened it is most likely that whoever it was that was retelling the story no longer gave a sh it about the philippines or whatever it was that happened to them while they were there.By Mac sayin they werent doin n e thing that day means they didnt want to/ weren't going to.. do n e thing that day, see?I am sure they all 4got the phils pretty quickly.
After the break-up, someone from the Beatles like Sir Paul or Ringo could have returned to the country to do a concert if they had a great experience from their 1st visit. I could have watch them Live, even if I belong to the new generation.
does anyone know who opened for the beatles in manila? rj & the riots? the electromaniacs? also, did the stones or any other big-name acts from the uk or usa play in manila during those years?
@Angrybirds3452 Yes, but at least Imelda Marcos supposedly liked the Beatles. One of LBJ's aides wanted to invite the Beatles to the Whitehouse and LBJ is reported to have said he wasn't having those "long-haired faggots" in the Whitehouse. Of course, LBJ grew up in a different era in a conservative Texas state; so I guess his way of thinking shouldn't come as a surprise. But I wish Paul would give the P.I. another chance...it's a beautiful country with very nice people.
@TheBEATLESMania100n2 Excellent I agree.... Filipinos are amazing wonderful people and yes, hate Imelda and Fernandin but please not my people they are nice people here huh?????

The Marcos dictatorship stole the Phillipino people blind. If a dictator's capricious wife tells me I've got to perform privately for her, I tell her where to fookin' get off, simple as that. The Beatles performed twice the year before in Spain, another dictatorship at the time. It passed off without incident.
Guys no offense but your not supposed to reject one of the most powerful people in the country cause the beating up to the Beatles wouldnt happen. masmasapap pa yatang mabuhay noon kesa ngayon noon puro kantahan lang masaya na ngayon pur gira at kurakot ang nalalaman ng mga filipino at magparami ng mga anak libangan imbes na magantaha nalang masaya pa .
@cheenamay that is bullshit. they were invited by the first lady while they were still in Japan and the Fab Four were totoally clueless of such invitation and the fucking first lady almost got them killed you got that???? Killed all for a so called, nice dinner with who? a Thief!!!!!!!! huh she was a thief and so are all your presidents after that. My people in the philippines are always robbed of millions of dollars and I hope Pac Man runs for president.. he will change things
it was bad timing. sana ibang presidente nalang nung time na yun. ... who knows Paul would have forgiven the PHilippines by now and have a last concert here.
If made a concert in Israel , Russia ...why not here? Calling Mr Steve O Neil ...
>Philippines in the 60s-maybe to the 70s = 2nd riches country in Asia behind Japan. walang magagawa ung kayamanan natin dati kung puro demonyo ung mga nagpapatakbo ng republika ng puking inang pinas. masaya nga c paul mccartney na nagkaroon ng martial law nung 1972 sa pinas para ma22 naman ung mga pinoy!
@joaspiras You still don't get it - John was having a discussion about the decline or religion and just pointed out factually that The Beatles in England at that time were more popular than Jesus. True then, true now. He wasn't saying it to brag. 45 years later and you still don't get it.
@TheRadicalLiberal to be fair my friend, i don't think they will ever get it haha, if they make it to 100 they will probably say something like 'Them damn beatles saying that their better than Jesus' lol.
@TheRadicalLiberal Correct. But finer detail. John was being interviewed, inn England, by Maureen Cleve, and the topic was Mod-Rocker conflict. His comment was about the young IN ENGLAND. The fact is, of course, that The Beatles werre more popular than many things, including that of going to church, and not only in the UK.
He was entirely accurate; it was the religionuts, and the far-right lunatic fringe, who made isssue of a non-issue. Because stupid is easy.
The audio is definitely from the evening show, at the Budokan in Japan, 30 June 1966. You can tell because it's appalling - the first time in about four years the Beatles could actually be heard at a show.
It was suppose to be a 10,000-15,000 people show, instead there were 100's of thousands. This was a big factor of the Beatles becoming just a memory. NO MORE Live Shows NO MORE anything) Screams, Fame, People, & even the Money had become a Nightmare. Brian was robbed a few times and this was the beginning of `the END..They had to give up the profit for these shows to get off the Island intact. Very Sad really that Brian allowed this to happen. It was something that he really never got over. SAD
Hey don't blame the Philippines, blame Imelda Marcos our useless first lady >:)... Philippines loves the beatles, we even have a 1 hour special beatles program in the radio. Its 105.9 during saturday from 9pm to 10pm xD
i hope Paul will come back here again and i think this issue before is already dead and at Philippines my country is also including on their Beatles history!!
@alonenjersey It was actually the First lady of the Philippines in that time, Imelda Marcos' fault. The people don't want to hurt the beatles. Even my dad said he was really angry when he heard the news. He was still 14 in that time. It would've been wonderful if they come back even once. But it's all Imelda's fault! I hate her!
@DannaRoseAguilar There are some people in this world who are just not worth the aggrevation. And Imelda (Moo Cow) Marcos was/is one of them. Looks like The Beatles had the last laugh many years later.
im a filipino, i was hurt when ringo sayz that he hate philippines... i guess its not the filipino peoples fault for what happened to them back then... it is just they dont know whos imelda marcos and marcoses at that time.. filipino loves their music and i love beatles ....

@charmgibala I can't say I blame you for feeling hurt about Ringo saying that on Anthology. But looking back on how they had the crap scared out of them (not to mention having to give back so much of the money made from the two shows) you really can't blame Ringo for saying that. I hope you never find out one of George's comments he made when they got back to London.

The Filipines was a developing country that prospered because of the Marcos government starting in 1965. The concept of 3rd or "4th" world is one constructed by western governments in order to create distance after they used up all natural resources in the countries they colonized
now the time of arroyo only killers will do the concert in our country..mabuti pa ang panahon ni marcus noon maunlad ang pinas..at maraming mga kilalang tao ang pumupunta sa pinas mga sikat na tao..
The Beatles was in The Philippines because they were leading economically in South East Asia at that time. A country with such rich resources and intelligent people. This is why having a good leader is so important.
We were so sorry for them for what happen to their trip in Manila..,,but nevertheless Filipinos Love the Beatles so much, eventhough were a 4th world country as what this bloody moron russelljdj said..learn ur manners, jerk...
The Filipines was a developing country that prospered because of the Marcos government starting in 1965. The concept of 3rd or "4th" world is one constructed by western governments in order to create distance after they used up all natural resources in the countries they colonized. American is also considered a 3rd world given the amount of malnutrition, poverty and poor education.
its not that serious. the beatles were men. what didnt kill them only made them stronger, thus the release of sgt. pepper. white album. and many more.
SirBrian, Why the cheap Nietzche line?...Maybe if you call them "Uberman" (Superman in English) I might respect your piece..or you mentioned he was a left wing Hegelian.....See what people who study philosophy talk about??
Amazing how people take this out of context. So the Beatles had a bad day/moment perpetrated by Marcos thugs; so people (including the Beatles) at the time and even today said nasty shit about the Philippines...big deal.
But the reason y some refer to Filipinos as monkeys is not only bcoz the country is poor, but bcoz Filipinos like to copy, we lack originality most of the time.
Until we tackle corruption and make the country richer, we won't get any respect.
There was a reason why they got kicks to the stomach, you ass-munch. The Beatles were attacked because they intentionally snubbed the First Lady Imelda Marcos when she made a courtesy call, which is an insult to ANY head of state, most especially the Marcoses.
Do some research first before you post something, OK? It only makes you look primitve yourself.
@whipass2345 You don't know a thing about what happened. The Beatles were not told at all about playing for Imelda Marcos and it was their only day off . She had no right to demand the Beatles perform for her.
@ terry358 After some more research on it, yeah, you're right about the "Beatles were not told at all" part. That was my mistake for not pointing that out.
But still, just because Imelda decided to make their visit in the Philippines a catastrophic nightmare doesn't mean that every Filipino thought the same thing about their music (I'm talking about dennis789111's blatantly ass-backwards 'comment'.)
Sorry whip if you got the wrong idea about me thinking wrong of Filipinos. I would never blame an entire race on the bad decisions of 1 or a few people . I had a Filipina girfriend for years and I think most of them are very nice people and a good many of them love The Beatles !

good one....who's popular than Christ now? such an ego tripper....
joaspiras 1 year ago
@joaspiras You still don't get it - John was having a discussion about the decline or religion and just pointed out factually that The Beatles in England at that time were more popular than Jesus. True then, true now. He wasn't saying it to brag. 45 years later and you still don't get it.
TheRadicalLiberal 1 year ago 22
@TheRadicalLiberal to be fair my friend, i don't think they will ever get it haha, if they make it to 100 they will probably say something like 'Them damn beatles saying that their better than Jesus' lol.
samusic160 8 months ago

Imelda Marcos ruined their experience here in the Philippines.

SAD

I hate her!

American is also considered a 3rd world given the amount of malnutrition, poverty and poor education.

nobody should be treated like the way THEY (meaning the Marcoses) treated THE BEATLES!!
they are so mean!! and just because they WERE in the position, they think they can just do anything to people!
even after 43 years, the bad effect this had made to our country can still be seen!

1818JoseRizal1898 2 years ago
How could you be so naive? Funny lil monkeys mean ugly, dark with small physique, mostly apply to men

Richer to get respect? No. It's the third world mentality that has to change. What happened to the Beatles was all about ignorance.

The people of this country do not appreciate good music. These brutal morons attacked Paul, John, George and Ringo for no reason. Dumbass primitives.
dennis789111 2 years ago
There was a reason why they got kicks to the stomach, you ass-munch. The Beatles were attacked because they intentionally snubbed the First Lady Imelda Marcos when she made a courtesy call, which is an insult to ANY head of state, most especially the Marcoses.
Do some research first before you post something, OK? It only makes you look primitve yourself.
whipass2345 2 years ago
@whipass2345 You don't know a thing about what happened. The Beatles were not told at all about playing for Imelda Marcos and it was their only day off . She had no right to demand the Beatles perform for her.
terry358 2 years ago 28
@ terry358 After some more research on it, yeah, you're right about the "Beatles were not told at all" part. That was my mistake for not pointing that out.
But still, just because Imelda decided to make their visit in the Philippines a catastrophic nightmare doesn't mean that every Filipino thought the same thing about their music (I'm talking about dennis789111's blatantly ass-backwards 'comment'.)
whipass2345 2 years ago
Sorry whip if you got the wrong idea about me thinking wrong of Filipinos. I would never blame an entire race on the bad decisions of 1 or a few people . I had a Filipina girfriend for years and I think most of them are very nice people and a good many of them love The Beatles !
