  • The wing clipped the power lines that ran between the survival school buildings and the tower.

  • 1:48 The wing ignited before touching the ground??

  • @URnotUrindanger hit electrical wires

  • Imagine what the cockpit transmission was like.

  • "Quoting a former Air Force officer, a Spokane newspaper Sunday said pilot Arthur "Bud" Holland was an expert pilot and instructor but also a risk-taker. They cited a 1992 incident in which he did a low-level runway pass before putting a B-52 into a steep climb and turn, in front of a crowd of 100,000. The maneuver was shown to have popped rivets out of the air frame because of the stresses involved."

  • Tragic...

  • That is what happens,

when u use german technology from ww2...

  • Just wiki this incident to get all the info. He didnt land because another plane had just landed so he was told to circle around. He was going to circle all the way around but there was a nuclear test no fly zone and he had to turn sharp to avoid flying over it and ended up doing this.

  • @sgtsnakeeyes11 "Nuclear 'test' no fly zone?" Not even. Tests are “shots” in the “Spec Weps” world. Pacific Proving Grounds-105 shots; Colorado-2; Mississippi-2; New Mexico-3; Amchitka Island-3; Nevada Test Site-707. The pilot wasn’t attempting to avoid restricted air space over a test site; it was over a Spec Weps storage facility. The thing is, when in extremis, between “safety of flight,” and restricted air space of a known nature, safety of flight is supposed to win every time.

  • wow i cant believe this happend! this brings back memories. the pilot was suppose to be discharge and the other pilot was my friends dad....RIP

  • this is crazy. I know next to nothing about planes but common sense tells me not to make that wide of a turn with a plane that big 250 ft off the ground...

  • too low!!! too slow! bad decision.

  • What a pity.

  • In Soviet America the ground hits you.

  • First of all I feel sorry for the crew, family and friends. It looks like an aborted landing, have no idea why. The gear is retracted the engines increase power, commonly done to increase airspeed. Unfortunately it does not look like enough airspeed to regain altitude to make the bank, have no idea why such a steep bank. It does appear that the left wing hits some type of power line 3 times prior to impact.. Just my opinion of what happened without getting any other facts...

  • @emsnaz

    Step 1: Google "b-52 fairchild"

    Step 2: Check the facts

Step 3: Realize no landing was involved

Step 4: Have a nice weekend

  • hey nemacyst117 watch your language and besides you probably would know how to get in the cockpit, he was not even flying like a stunt plane he was just turning, or practicing a minimum turn

  • Comment removed

  • fake or montaged.

  • @huskor11 Real!! I was there!

  • B-52=A HUGE FLYING BALLISTIC MISSILE

  • I was going to comment on the guy at 2:00 just standing there but I realized there's nothing you can do.

  • @Iluvbuckethead1 Even so, he can't just run out there, lots of rules on a flightline. Best to leave it to the firefighters and medics that are on duty on the flightline.

  • damn. I just wrote a whole really good comment and then accidentally deleted the whole thing.

  • What a dickhead (the pilot). He not only got himself killed by trying to fly a massive B 52 like a stunt plane, but also the rest of the crew and put the lives of the ground crew and spectators at risk.

  • Seriously who allowed this idiot to get a pilot's license.

  • You never!!! bank a B52 at that angle at such low speed. They drop every time. 'Hot Dogging' will get you killed.

  • 53 Vietnamese people liked this, anyways this was all pilots fault. Thats some crazy bank angle.

  • I don't understand why he would put the plane into such a steep bank angle, that low to the ground. It's such a stupid move, I'd prefer to believe that this was suicide.

  • Hey migkid, if I wanted to commit suicide I would've put the nose down, I wouldn't have over banked the ac like this individual clearly did. Also I believe that the plane didn't stall, the lift vector was parallel to the ground and she slipped into the turn.

  • You can be a stupid pilot on your own time, but risk the lives of your crew and people on the ground, you should never have earned those wings

  • @AircraftDriver yeah Im still shocked they let this guy fly for years even from complaints from other pilots and crew members. At the bombing range they were grabbing the controls yelling for him to climb. It's just sad that the co-pilot was retiring as they were about to land, his friends and family were watching.

  • Murder suicide PERIOD.

  • dam gravity you scarey!

  • I am sure: 50 millions vietnamese peoples like this.

  • @academicusprecarius and one afghan!!

  • Its a shame for the the rest of the crew. RIP. Pilot def. wsnt. a "stick man"

  • 90-degree bank at 90 feet altitude = crazy

  • This 'pilot ' , if you can call this dumby cunt that , was indeed trying to kill himself for what ever reason. Its so terrible other innocent people died as well.

  • BUD HOLLAND I JUST WANTED TO TELL YOU THAT YOU ARE A DISGRACE TO THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE YOU EFFECTIVELY COMMITTED THREE MURDER-SUICIDES FROM YOUR STUPIDITY AND HAD YOU EJECTED IM POSITIVE YOU WOULD HAVE RECEIVED 2ND DEGREE MURDER CHARGES. THIS WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT - THIS WAS A CRASH.

  • To all those that say someone ejected from the plane, no one did. The plane hit power lines. The plane was not designed to have people eject. An other thing, they would have ejected way before the plane crash.

  • @GrandTrunkFilms You have not done one bit of research as everything you write here is incorrect! You can read the Air Force report, you can see McGeehan's parachute (if you stop the action at 1:50). What power lines? Do you see any in the video? Not to mention that the Air Force does not string power lines around an air base. Finally, each of the six crew person's in a B-52 has an ejection seat (just Google it). Do some homework before you post!

  • @JDSFLA Yes I should have done my home work, but I am correct about the powerlines.

  • Stop the action at 1:50 and you will see the co-pilot's (Lt Col Mark McGeehan)ejection parachute, but he died in the fireball. McGeehan was the squadron commander who refused to allow any of his squad mambers to fly with Holland unless he (McGreehan) was also on the aircraft. He took this action after his recommendation that Holland be removed from flying duty was refused.

  • Google "1994 Fairchild Air Force Base B-52 crash" for the Wikipedia report. Evidently the pilot, Authur "Bud" Holland had a history of flying the B-52 beyond its design parameters, and he violated his orders and the flying capability of the B-52 causing this crash. Tragically it was the final flight for the safety observer before retirement, and his wife and children were watching. The copilot ejected, but died in the fireball. Holland tried to eject, but did not clear the plane in time.

  • A pilot stalls a plane.. A pilot can recover from a stall. Just reduce the angle of attack. This was very preventable if the pilot would have flown in a responsible and professional manner.

  • Dude the plane stalled what can you do about a stall nothing

  • @bombboy1011 Recover by losing altitude. He didn't have enough.

  • That pilot was a complete asshole. I thought the B-52 had two pilot seats to enable someone who is clearly mental from doing something like this!

  • Its good that you survived in 1:37 , and you repeat it !!!!!!

  • This pilot, "Bud" Holland, was known as a rogue pilot. He had many incidents of hot dogging it, and had a history of overflying B52's to the point where others would not fly with him. On this flight, which was in preparation for an airshow, he had superiors on board who were there monitor him. Unfortunately, they paid the price, although some did try to eject just prior to crash.

This pilot should have been grounded a long time before this incident.

  • Ha ha!

  • the video show a distress situation in progress, that is why there is enphasis in the firetruck to get started. The pilot was flying crazy (suicidal maybe). the turn on cross-wind leg was too wrong, steep and short. Downwind leg too close from the rnway and clearly the weirdest very low base to final. sorry amigos, this video is a lie. RIP to all Airmen onboard

  • @migkid Is that a fact GENIUS? And how do you rate his landing? Too steep?

  • He said "you can't do that with that, man." Meaning you can't fly like that in that big plane.

  • @pfffbt

    this thing is just outdated,

it is extremely simular to a german arado, which was once designed to attack America.

The germans did NOT use it because it also did what you can see on this video,

I could steer very fast, but just falls down very quickly,

the germans allready decided NOT to use it because it cost to many money people & materials...

But hey you dont have to believe it, cause if I tell this to other americans, they call me a lier,

and that only america can make it..

  • @Weibkoln RE:"it is extremely simular to a german arado, which was once designed to attack America."

Which German Arado are you talking about? You do know that Arado Flugzeugwerke was an aircraft manufacturer that produced many different types? I think you may be talking about the Arado Ar 234B-2 - If you knew what you were talking about, but it appears from your comments that you do not.

  • @Ansonidak

the Arado Ar 234B-2 was smaller as the one I talk about, if I knew what the name was, I would have written it, so you are right, I do not really know which type I really talk about.

    Just like you...

  • he banked to hard

  • that cameraman doesn't look serprise !!

  • oh, "with that man" meaning the careless pilot

  • "can't do that without man" is that would he said? @2:16

if so, kind of a profound thing to say

  • Have watched this crash a number of times but never noticed before that the spoilerons deploy fully on the top of the right wing (if unfamiliar, they work with ailerons to bank the plane by disrupting airflow over the wing and thereby killing lift, causing the wing to drop.) And you can see the ailerons on the left wing deflect fully downwards -- meaning that the pilot/co-pilot (or both) turned the yoke hard over to the right, to counteract the left bank and level the wings. And this command to

  • I've watched this crash in sev

  • Can someone say tip-stall!

  • Eerie how quiet it is directly after the crash. Firefighters can't do much with a fireball that big but let it cool down, but still, a little odd. Complacency seemed to be Fairchild's middle name back then.

  • Bud Holland you are the worst pilot who ever lived you effectively committed three murders and a suicide with your countless acts of sheer stupidity. Burn in hell

  • Overbanking tendency is a well understood phenomenon.

It gets very noticeable with long wings, slow airspeeds and steep turns.

Sadly this was demonstrated all too well here.

  • Bud Holland was an unsafe pilot. He was dangerous and people knew yet his superiors did nothing. What a tragic loss. RIP LTC McGeehan and the other 2 members of the aircrew.

  • @Swimdeep I agree, unfortunately LTC McGeehan had ejected...but did not clear the fireball and debris..costing him his life due to Bud Hollands actions, same with the 2 other crew members who lost their lives as well because of this reckless pilot. R.I.P

  • So If IT DIDNT Show Him Abord His CRash what happend did he die

  • The chain of command broke down even before the first turn.. notice the sudden engine drop off and spikes before someone hammered it full power for the turn in which they cannot pull out of. Mark ditched at the last second but didn t escape the fireball. There was an ammo bunker nearby that was a no fly zone that caused Holland..who was under disipline.. to bank harder.

  • what an earth was the pilot trying to do ??

  • Of course all the women start screaming and panicking........

  • @cardude024 Yeah, sure...just the women are screaming and panicking....while the men maintain their equanimity. How do you know? If ever there were a reason to scream...and incidentally....family members were watching their sons, brothers, and husbands die....this would a good reason. There are other videos, in which men are clearly heard screaming. People shouldn't have to justify expressing emotion at something this horrid.

  • It was a joke. Take it easy. I fully understand why. Don't assume that I don't know what it's like to loose a family member in a tragedy.

  • @cardude024 Thank you for writing and explaining. I appreciate it. Have a great weekend.

  • You too buddy.

  • @cardude024 man stfu that could have been her son dying right before her eyes anyone has the right to screama and cry when something like this happens

  • @crapto324 I said it was a joke. Plus it was just the women, which I thought to be a little funny. I'm not crazy or anything, I was just stating a fact which I have found to repeat, plus I saw another video that day, and all the women started screaming and panicking, and it was completely useless, it just made the situation worse. I just thought I would point that out. It wasn't a serious and offensive comment.

  • didn't a B-52 fly over the grand canyon and only just aabout make it.

  • It appears that the pilot retracted the landing gear upon approaching the field prior to crashing. Is this normal or am I missing something?

  • @kiotikid

They had finished practicing for an airshow, and were about to land, but a Refueling plane landed before them and hadn't cleared the runway.

  • @protoculturejunkie - Thanks for your insight. Sad sad day for the USAF, Fairchild, B-52 Crew, Families, & Community.

  • @kiotikid It looked like he aborted his first landing attempt and was coming back around when he lost control

  • What can anyone do at that point? There isn't a thing anyone could have done for that crew, nobody ejected from it, and it went nose first in to the ground. It's tragic to see death like this, and in many other instances, but the human mind/body reacts differently, not one person is the same, these guys caught the last seconds of these peoples lives on tape, and nothing can change that, not a single negative word towards those who videotaped, or any of the crew!

  • This is just 4 days after my birthday in 94'!

  • I like how the person filming this pipes in with his "you can't do that with that man".

  • wy it crash lol?

  • Not much he could do. Dumb pilot crashed the plane. Shouldn't have watched Doctor Strang Glove to much before flying.

  • The pilot had a history or reckless flying. His crew had actually refused to fly with him

  • hehe ...how long had this guy been playing with his life .maybe he used to be along before .but this time he's got someone else with him so he's got fucked up....banking so hard with so low altitude? what was he? can i just say he's a pig?

  • A good photographer doesn't react to what he's filming unless his own life is at risk, he's thinking about the shot, that once in a lifetime shot no matter what it is.

  • I wish Bud Holland had survived his ejection from the aircraft so that he could be punished for the three lives he took by being a fucking idiot.

  • DUDE SERIOUSLY .. WALk on the ground and ride your car or your Bike ...

  • 90 degree banked turn in a B-52 = crash. What a tragedy.

  • BOOM SHAKA LAKA

  • That's one bomber that won't be killing innocent civilians anymore.

  • Wow, just terrible

  • @bigoh747 Dude seriously . . . stay in Spain!

  • did he died????

  • @UberNinjabreadman thats not fucking funny. maybe you should have been on that plane, seeing death seconds before it happens, unable to say goodbye to your love ones, dead in in an instant, then we would see if you think its funny to say did he died.

  • @jmorris6758 calm the fuck down jeb end, do you actually think anybody who says that on a video actually means it in a harsh way? clearly that pilot shouldn't have been such a dumbass and piloted the plane like an asshole, and therefore the comment was directed at him.

  • Very educational video for any pilot.

Friends, don't let pilot friends to bank steeply, close to the ground, for no reason, in ANY airplane.

  • shut up.. and stop lying....

  • Fire burned for 5 hrs. Why rush to the scene? Anyone that witnessed it knew there was no survivors. After the 5 hrs they tried to find remains but ended up with only ashes. Brutal impact! Had to be absolutely terrifying from the flightdeck.

  • This pilot had been reprimanded several times before for dangerous flying stunts. His exploits are well documented on certain aviation sites. He once almost crashed showing off over his daughter's softball game.

  • totally scary; it crashed right across the flight line where we lived on linden st. when i was an officer assigned to fairchild

  • In this video you can hear the reactions of the audience. Those sounds move this clip from 'special effect' to real life. Very chilling.

  • the pilot is an idiot, how unfair on the rest of the crew

  • what a dumbass

  • look at the camera-man on the left @ 02:32 ...okay, job is done, time to go home!

  • the only tragedy here is the loss of the plane and its passengers. The world is better off without this pilot.

  • oh yea, screaming will do alot.

  • I was in the Air Force when that happened. I remember it coming out that the pilot was a "fighter wannabe". Infact it got to the point where only the pilot's supervisor would fly with him. The supervisor was in this plane as copilot when it crashed.

  • With a knife-edge turn, the wings lose lift and the plane quickly lose altitude. Combat pilots use these turns all the time at altitudes where there is room to recover. No sane pilot would have done the turn that close to the ground. It looks like this pilot got into trouble with the first left turn and exacerbated his error by continuing to bank instead of leveling out. From where he started the first turn you can see he was losing altitude. Regardless, it is a tragedy.

  • ythats crazy i live so close to fairchild but i was'nt born yet when this happened

  • no survivers, why run

  • How come no one does anything after the crash?are they in shock?

  • ..got a bucket of water?...

  • wow i never knew this happened looks almost like the plane is malfunctioning in my opinion

  • plane stalled; no lift force = gravity taking over

  • holy shit.that sucks, his was family watching.

  • The pilot was very skilled and he turned this big monster B-52 like it was a fighter plane. The entire show was incredible, too bad it ended tragically due to a minor mistake, a fatal mistake. If the plane didn't crash they'd be talking about this demo of a B-52 being the best flying ever done in a B-52. Spectacular flying, bad mistake which cost 4 lives.

  • I suggest you read the accident report before commenting...

  • he was loosing height in the turn before the crash, he should have known it was near the limit.

why he did not test it higher?

such a big plane cant be hold in air only by the small rudder...

and whats wrong with the photographer?!

  • Why does this look like a suicide?

  • I am french and i don't speak english well but it looks like a suicide because the plane turned "too fast" (90°) and every body know that 90° is the dangerous situation, not every plane can face the forces. Moreover i think that this plane was too much next the floor (sorry for my bad english) and the pilot wanted to "show off" but he failed!

  • MrMrCVC... how do you know it was a "test" and not a real accident?? Is that opposed to a fake accident ?? you dumbass. i was stationed at fairchild from 93-96 and he was practicing for an air show.

the pilot was a known hot-dog but no one had the gutsa to take his wings. the base commander was a colonel in line to get his star, but it got revoked over this incident.

  • @red03mitsu what exactly caused the accident ? too fast on first landing attempt and then.....?

  • @HITHEREFOLKS

the pilot was a well-known hot dog but no one had the guts to pull his wings. As you can see from the end of the video, the pilot banked the plane too hard and the wings lost all their lift. That's why the plane crashed. All four people on board died. The base commander was a colonel at the time and was in line for his star, but he was denied it based on the outcome of the investigation.

  • @red03mitsu thank you redmitsu for the information.

  • it's a real accident , pilots made mistake they forgot that this plane it =was to more big to do this figure they losed control

  • I know that the co-pilot has been ejected. Did he survive?

  • no all 4 died in the wreck

  • he ddn't

  • WOW!!! I can't belive i found this video. I was like 7 years old when this happen. I lived here! I was chased by that guy in the hospital shooting, i was in the middle of getting tubes out of my ears when all that happened, then a few days later this plane crashed >100 yds. from my dads work! Its so ironic because i was outside playing and i saw all the black smoke not knowing a plane crashed so i saw the whole thing happen. (just an FYI everything i just said is very true too!)

  • this pilot had a history of wreckless flying with many complaints, investigators determined this accident was more like suicide

  • I read the same thing. I also read that his family, including maybe his kids, were at that show. Not sure if that's true, but if it was, how awful, and how irresponsible.

Man....this could have been avoided and it makes me mad that he took the risks he took, even after being asked to stop doing what he was doing.

  • Saddest part was he took three good officers with him

  • i believe it was one of the other officers that died and it was their last fight prior to the show from retirement,

  • LOL!!!

  • lmfao XD

  • This video disturbs me for some reasons.

    1. The videomaker is witnessing a B-52 stratofortress crashing straight into the ground and we don't see ANY reaction from him. Not even a "Fuck" "shit" or "Holy shit" ... He just stood there, filming, no emotion no nothing.

    2. The other guy we see filming the incident using the Tripod, also doesn't say anything or even move from his position. He also just stood there, emotionless.

    Question is, WHAT THE FUCK?!?!

  • it looks like they were expecting it to happen and just waiting for it.

    i dunno, it's really weird!

  • Just what did you expect them to do? Run wildly toward it in an attempt to save someone from the wreckage? Think about what you would do. I'd be just as fucking stunned as they were!

  • Did you ever think that the guy went in to shock?

  • Answer is: Shock, Dismay, Numbness.

Some people stand motionless for a few moments, then react. Plus, there are other videos of this incident where people do voice their shock and you can hear it on the video. Also, the guy in this video filming knows he is far enough away not to get hurt.

Some people have depth perception, so they don't run when something happens 300 yard away from them.

  • how does he no ts going to crash???

  • How do we know what you say when your spelling is atrocious?

  • what you're saying*

Don't ridicule if you suck at the English language yourself.

  • @bezerk1831 Hey jackass let me get this straight. People just died in an accident and the only thing that concerns you is the guys holding the cameras and their emotions? Who the hell cares what they said or didn't say. That's not the point or the title of the video. Don't get me started retard.

  • Comment removed

  • @bezerk1831 They're also military people who are trained to stay calm in stressful situations.

  • @bezerk1831 I guess that's what separates good cameramen from bad cameramen?

  • @bezerk1831 just bc they dont say anything doesnt mean shit...people react in different ways man...ever jusrt stood there in shock speachless? there is no right way or wrong way to act in a situation like that! besides look at the crash! noone could do anything...its tragic and heartbreaking yes...but shit stop whining!

  • @bezerk1831 cuz that was a airshow -.- man everyone wants to see a crash on an arshow

  • @bezerk1831 shut up!!

  • Comment removed

  • @bezerk1831

    shut up!!
