What a load of biased CRAP !!!. OK, Lumens is the amount of light energy emitted in ALL directions from the light source, be it a led a globe or whatever. The proper scientific term for measuing total light energy, not "watts". What comes out the front and lands on a surface which is where it is all at folks it is called LUX. THAT depends on the efficiency of the optics in comparison. The overall effectiveness is also modified by the beam angle. Short answer ? Specs are Smoke & Mirrors

Ok, candle power and lumens are used to rate light differently. A flashlight with a focused beam would be high in candle power, but low in lumens. Where a lantern would be high in lumens, but low in candle power. Basically a spotlight, or a light that is focused for distance would be candle power. A light with a broad range or lantern, something with radial light would be lumens.

@bigboyjack21 wtf

@bigboyjack21
That depends on the effective the bulb/LED is.

so what is the difference? what is candlepower? and what is a lumen?

So which flashlight is brighter, the one with a 5000 candle power xenon bulb, or 100 lumen 3watt LED????

You can't really tell, 'cause cp is not a standardized form of measurement.

i love how happy he is to have blown out the candle.
jimmycthatsme 2 years ago 18
@jimmycthatsme
That's cause;
1) the first take did not have the proper lighting (or "Lumens") and had to be re-lit and re-shot.
2) the next few takes he screwed up the lines and or "product placement interaction"
3) Then (being tired from previous takes) he could not blow out the candle after finally getting all of the above right!!
So take #35 and they finally get it right, hence the smile of ACCOMPLISHMENT!!
Welcome to the world of "making a scripted video"! LOL

Im NOT an expert but, you might also want to consider the "spread" of the beam, and not just the lumens.
For example a laser beam is literally blindingly bright, but the spot that it illuminates is obviously not fit for being a flashlight. Buyer beware?
