Two of my sisters & a brother-in-law lived in France over 10 years (who had experiences in French health care sys.), other brother-in-law is a Hispanic from a Latin American country (& his relative a nuerosurgeon in a major LA hospital), my father has been in medical field nearly 40 years, & one of my sisters is a registered nurse in LA, so I think I know well "how it goes."

I'm a tax payer living in L.A.

I don't mind seeing my tax money being spent on EMERGENCY CARE for the victims of unpredictable accidents.

It should NOT cost you $40,000 to patch up an amputated finger.

But I surely don't want to see my tax money being spent on ignorant, lazy people do NOT do even very basic things to take care of themselves.

Parents have TOTAL control over their infant's food.

I bet that 3-yr-old's mom neglectedly let her baby have sweets which rotted her teeth.

@KimInLosAngeles Maybe it's the mom's fault and maybe it's not. Toothaches can happen for different reasons. And maybe she has shared custody with the father who feeds her bad food and she can't stop him, for all we know. Either way, it seems you're saying you don't want to pay for the little girl's toothaches that make her cry. But what's the alternative? And wouldn't it be better if dental care was affordable to all, so problems would be solved quickly before they caused prolonged pain?

I have a relative who works in the dentistry, so I know for a fact that infants as young as 3-year-old cannot get their teeth decayed unless they take too much sugary snacks & drinks.

People surely can get their teeth decayed when they do not brush their teeth adequately even if they do not take sugary substances.

But that process many years even decades.

That girl who had 2 teeth pulled out is merely 3 years old.

Other countries which socialized health care MAKE the parents to pay the expenses of the treatment on their children if the neglect was the reason.

And the governments punish them for neglect.

If the parents cannot pay at the moment of the treatment, governments MAKE them to reinburst the expenses in the future.

That's actually a really good idea. I like that a lot. The only gray area, of course, is what constitutes neglect- of course some neglect is obvious, but some might be controversial- for one example, I could see someone charging a parent with neglect for feeding their child more fatty foods than the food pyramid suggests. On principle, however, I agree with that approach.

A negative consequence I thought of, though- wouldn't that discourage neglectful parents from taking their children to the doctor in the first place? Is that an effect those policies have had in other countries?

What a shame, the world's richest country and its people have to turn to volunteers for their health needs.

This is against a background of health insurance companies making record profits, while denying policyholders access to full health care because of co-pays and the deductibles.

The politicians from BOTH parties ought to be ashamed. I guess the true state of health care in the USA will be known when a politician's family or relative is denied treatment because of the insurance company

Illegal aliens and people begging to lazy to earn an honest keep. I have a friend who works 2 jobs, 50 hours a week, and goes to school while making straight A's! He lives in a nice apartment with 1 roomate. He is 19, and he pays for all of his own stuff including healthcare. His parents were bums so he works real hard. He earns his keep. And he has regular checkup's and dental care. He takes care of it all on his own. So tell me. Im in a similar position but not as demanding.
