  • Talent!

  • I must learn that on Absolvent exam:D and she play that at 9 years?:D

  • respect.... to bach

  • It's amazing how she can play this as a 9 year old. I didn't play this until I was 13. :o

  • amazing

  • She's awsome! Her fingers are just flowing like she was playing with water..respect, girl.

  • great start...and definitely amazing considering her young age. but she lost control at around 0:24.

  • @anczic It turns out Herr Bach had his own tempo of performance. Please watch Mr. Glenn Gould's performance.

  • Jesus

  • Superhuman - someone tell her she shouldn't be able to do that!

  • When i start learning a new classical piece I always look it up in yt to see how someone plays it and its always some asian kid playing it :P am so jealous cause she is like 6 or 7 years younger

  • yo cool^^

  • Clearly a result of not only tremendous talent but also an astounding amount of diligent work. She makes me feel very inadequate :)

  • Well done. I thought both the prelude and fugue were played beautifully for someone of any age let alone 9 years. I'm 45 and currently engaged in a fight to the death with both of these pieces. If I ever manage to play either as nicely as you, I'l be well chuffed.

It is also a scientifically proven fact that 88.4% of negative comments on utube are borne of jealousy, spitefulness and immaturity, so if you have had any of those (I haven't bothered checking) ignore them. Well done and best wishes

  • How old is this girl? She plays like a professional pianist!

  • :S

  • @waldowabbit: I've never agreed with the idea of voicing the subject and answer above the background; it strikes me as somewhat hamfisted, and it's not possible to do that on an harpsichord or organ, making it doubtful that Bach would have considered it essential to the playing technique.

  • it's beautiful :'(

  • Talented kid.

However, this interpretation of the prelude was way too fast IMO. Needs to be more staccato as well.

  • @LittleDragon5

I'm pretty sure there aren't tempo markings until the presto, nor are there any staccato marks. Your personal preference isn't the score.

  • Amazing! Great talent!

  • What grade is this song, just wondering... BUTTT.... you are AWESOME!

I LOVE IT o___0 i think you're better than me, and i'm 14 doing learning Amus, *sigh* i'm soo gonna fail D:

And this was 3 years ago, you're probably already teacher :D

  • really amazing!

i´m learning this piece now and it´s difficult for me

  • Terrific job for 9 years old. I wish my kids could do that later.

  • Great, but I think the 'presto' part should be faster than the other part...

Good job though.. I love it!!!!!

  • This is the only one that's corrrect! :o

I swear, the other people on youtube play awefully slow~!

I'm learning this piece right now... it's not easy :/ especially with a speed like that!

  • i know to play it too it so beautiful

and you play great!! right tempo', everything's cool

  • This music is composed for a harpichord.

  • WoW your greats I play this piece and I'm twelve xD

  • You did a really great work Erika!!!!!! This is not easy!!! Keep up the good work!!! =D!!

I uploaded a version played on harpsichord, I hope you like it!!

    youtube.com/watch?v=x68mVjTZ1mk

  • I really enjoyed it i think That the fugue is really well played but the prélude is a bit too regular....

  • Damn. i'm 14 and i have to play this. this just blows my mind away. when i was 8 i played songs out of 10-20 notes.

  • Zapilila ppc, vozrost ne tot, chtobi takie veshy igrat'

  • I have 3 and a half months to learn this song plus 3 others..... oh man.

  • Everyone who talks about how much better she is than you. It's all perspective. Who ever is also learning this song, like myself, had to learn at some point. She just started at an early age. So don't feel bad. I used too, but I've come to accept that 'different strokes for different folks'

  • this makes me feel awful..... im learning this and im 14. i really hope i sound like this when im done

  • im working on this piece now but i'll never be that good!

  • STEINWAY <3

  • what a technique

  • How long did it take you to learn this piece?

  • Nice performance! I am learning this now!

  • oh my. pianoprodigy. <3

  • She is so talented. Beautiful.

  • great piece! I can play this peice now- the preludium its good fun!

  • rayos toca muyy bien!!!!! me siento desdichada U.U

  • oh my goodness, i'm struggling with this piece, and you're amazing! keep it up, girl, hehe!

  • Bach's intention of the Prelude of this P and F is Moderato. Most players tends to rush a little. The dynaoic marking on the climax of this prelude in book is allegro assai follow by prestisimo.

The fugue is well played. Well done.

  • @canman5060 Bach didn't intend anything. He wrote the WTC largely without dynamics or tempo indications. Music is about interpretation, not sticking to the norm.

  • quite amazing

  • Bravo. Weiter so!

  • Human brain is incredible.

  • Awesome! I wish I could play this..

    Cute skirt/dress btw! ^_^

  • One of Bach preludes that i love more then I can think. I do prefer a little bit slowly and less legatto (really love stacattos), but its impressive enought.

Well, I'm 40 and never got to play this piece.

    Wonderful !

  • this is AWESOME!!!!

  • that is fantastic considereing your only 9! Im 14 and learning this peice and even myself I struggle to play the prelude at that tempo (120)?

    ;)xx

  • A very fast and wonderful piece, I played it at a concert at this speed, it takes so much practice :P

  • she is extremely COOL..!!!

  • cool

  • Depois destas ela toca qualquer uma!

  • 1: 47 Sounds Beautiful, I Want to play it =) She's so good, I Hope she like to plya the piano

  • thats awesome. i think i would enjoy it more is she went a tad slower... how old is she now?? thats amazazzing tho. :D

  • Great! Just wish she is happier than the video would suggest.

  • A pleasure to watch....a joy to hear!!!

  • Very good. You should feel a little much the sensation

  • OMFG

    This is awsome!

  • bravo

  • duude. i cant even do this piece without my hands getting tired. O__O shes so GOOD. im

  • i'm blown over!!

  • Played it when i was at the age of 8! Tough it does take some practice and i think every beginning pianist should play a piece of Das Wohltemperierte Klavier ;) Nice job anyway!

  • She has big hands for a little girl

  • extremly good job! you've inspired me to do this song !

  • U got talent

  • nice:) im 7 and i like this. it is played at exacly 120 speed on the metronome.

  • Wow. Nice!

  • O.O wie geil ist das denn

  • :o y recien estoy con el preludio mas facil T_T estoy esta de mayor dificultad y es un tema interesante

  • Wonderful :)

  • Congrats :D!!

  • tempo slightly unsteady at times

other than that excellent outstanding playing

  • nice nice*

  • BRILLANTE BRILLANTE

  • That was amazing Great performances!!!

  • NICE

  • beautiful , i played it but never so fast

  • Very Nice!

  • Astoundingly brilliant! Brava, mademoiselle!

  • *jaw hangs down.

    im 13 almost 14.

just started this song 2 months ago.

    this was nicely done (:

    (Y)

  • agh! how??? im 13 and learning this now! that makes me think that my 8 years of piano are useless!

  • Don't worry about your age. The music has lasted almost 300 years! I'm 36 and still play this piece.

The one thing I've learned is that while you may be technicially gifted, as is the girl in the video, the musicality of the piece comes with age and experience.

Keep that in mind as you continue practicing and you will do well!

  • hermoso pero esta un poco rapido

  • you are great :)

  • Did anyone realise this piano is a Steinway? What a wonderful combination of good pianist and good piano...

  • o.o This song is in the grade 9 repertoire for RCM examinations. -nodnod-

I would have played this one as my second choice :P

  • Dios mio,que agilidad!!!!!!

    xD

  • Well played! Interesting legato throughout the Prelude.. keep in mind your circular arm motion to keep it more harmonious and easy.

  • hey!!! i think that i have boon there before 4 a recital

  • i bet it would've been better if we could see it actually live! you know how the recordings make the sound so fuzzy! (i hate that!) anyways, i think that was excellent, even with the fuzzy sounds! and I know i'm not the only one who thinks so! :)

  • She's NINE?

I thought I was in the right place being a music major...maybe it's time for me to drop. I learned this piece this year, and I'm almost 20.

  • you just gotta work a little harder man. if you truly love it, dont give up.

  • besides, shes probably been playing the piano since before she came out of the womb. lol

  • oh my gosh... i'm 17 and she's playing about 3 times as fast as I am.

that's a nice hit to the self esteem

  • why is it when i look up piano classical pieces its always some 9 year old asian kid... who is generally better than me... (16) this girl is 9 and she is playing what i am playing...

  • It's not about what you play, it's about how well you play it. Though she executed this wonderfully.

  • @RedBloodDoom haha i am in the EXACT same position. good luck :)

  • @RedBloodDoom Same... ¬¬

    When it isn't a 9 year old playing them, there's a 5 or 7 year old...

  • @RedBloodDoom

because theyr parents do not allow them to do anything else,

then they grow, loose the interest in playing the piano

    and give it up.

  • this is perfect! perfect hands, fingers, everything! Fabulous!

  • Perfecto!!!!

A mi me mandaron estudiar esto para el verano, ojala que me salga asi xD

  • pues....PRACTICA! JAJAJA

  • im studying it too,and im not an expert but ur interpetation in the prelude could be better, the fugue is good

  • of course she's chinese :p

  • I like seeing young children play Bach more than Chopin...I guess because you can't really understand Chopin that young. I don't care how much they swing their hands around.

    Either way, awesome.

  • FELICIDADES!!!! Sigue estudiando : )

  • Good performance for her age!

But a few tips to everyone who is learning this:

Watch out for the phrasing, especially on the subject, and make sure every time it reappears it is phrased the same way.

Make sure that the subject and answer are always voiced above the background.

And be sure to always follow the note lengths that Bach wrote, especially when they hold over other notes.

    Cheers

  • Amazing! the girls got a future, if she wants it

  • bravo!!

  • very skillful, but rushed through important parts. you can tell it's not her favorite piece. she'll perhaps learn to fall in love with her music playing as she gets older.

  • In the prelude, speed up the Presto, slow down the Adagio to make this a great rendition. But what a great job for a 9 year old!

  • oo O

  • Compliments, very good execution

  • i thought i was pretty good and im 14 and learning this... jeez this really depresses me...

    really great anyway

  • Although its very smooth, theres not enough difference between the first part before the Presto, and the Adagio is to fast. Either slow the measures before the Presto part down or speed of the Presto measures. Make sure you have a walking pace in the Adagio part. But other than that great job.

  • she is only 9. she'll get better. man this video makes you wanna practice more doesnt it? lol

  • dang man!! she's only 9 but its very smooth :)

  • you all are crazy!!! she´s nine years old!!! I´ve started playing piano @ the age of nine!!! now im 16 and i´m playing also this but she´s more better than me!!!

for nine years it´s not normal playing so good!!! respect...

  • tempos not constant. but brill for your age

  • Bravo

  • i can't even hear this fast.. forget playing..

  • omg shes better than me and im older than her...

  • hm.

  • perfection...good luck in your carier

  • its veyr good work... but most people exxagerate the speed a lil bit

  • Um... I STARTED piano lessons at age 9. For her to play thsi well at age 9... is just WOW. Keep it up!

  • lol why are 9 year old girls always better than everyone else at the piano.

  • Bach's pieces usally don't have set tempo's so really it could played slow or fast....

  • nice...

  • awesome, she's better than me!

  • Nice job. However, how come nobody understands the indicated presto when he/she plays this piece? I suppose it's difficult, but it just mean you have to slow down the first part to give it a nice effect otherwise it sounds too square, if you will.

  • good. she can hear both hands!

  • might be to legato for a chembalo but it is perfect for a piano not to say by a nine year old! she is awsome

  • perfect tempo.

  • It isn't true at all that harpsichords can't play legato. Bach wrote in his prefaces that he desired a "cantabile" sound much of the time. Cantabile means legato. Listen to my version of this prelude and fugue. The prelude is staccato and the fugue is legato. Everything I do on the piano can also be done on the harpsichord except for changes in dynamics.

  • Very good !

  • holy shit.. damn that's good! a nine year old.. and wonderful piece too!

  • Wow 9 years old and playing this!

  • Prelude has quite a bit of tempo escalation as it goes on and the presto section is at a similar tempo.

    Very good for her age.

  • Wonderful performance!

  • sweet! I'm sixteen too and I just learned these pieces and if I know anything about solo piano performances for age, this is one of the best.

However, the articulation used in the fugue is not the style used in the Baroque period (much more unattached sound to the notes) because the piece is too legato (this would all be her teacher's fault but interpretation of classical music IS ambiguous...)

  • Sorry, but the belief that Baroque music is all non-legato is a mistake. Teachers who teach this rule need to take some music history lessons. Bach's music is no different than in any other period. Sometimes it requires legato and sometimes staccato or non-legato.

  • cooool good job.

  • she is a very brilliant player...especially for 9 years old no doubt. but notice that her hands seem a little large for someone her age...comes in handy...i don't see how else a 9 year old can reach staggered octaves.

  • Oh, it's so beautiful !

  • amazing performance it is a very hard piece for lots of slur expression to bring out the melody much more harder than sonatina or sonate well done

  • good job!! gah. i'm thirteen and still only up to measure 26. =/ any tips????

  • The first 8 notes (measure 26) you play till a with the left hand, then the next 8 notes till f with the right.

measure 27 firs 4 notes with left, the rest of the measure with the right.

First 3 notes of 28 with left, the rest with the right hand.

    Hope I could help :)

  • sorry, measure 26 in my text is measure 25,

    27 is 26 and 28 is 27

  • wow

  • Fancy work indeed.... ! It is very nice, congratulations.

  • nice

  • increible

  • It's kind of funny, but the first three measures where the whole subject is played can be one of the most daunting parts.

Especially the last three notes of the subject.

    G F Eb

If you also consider the staccato in the subject, the fugue can become a laborious little pain in the ass.

  • wow, congratulations, this is hard to play (obviously)

  • This is great!

I am sixteen and just now learning this piece, You are very good

  • Very good performance, Erika! Congratulations!
