Well, except for Nighmare Of Purcussion. God how I hated that piece of shit song. Perhaps, that is what doomed the 2nd album. Being the 1st song on the record. Sit With The Guru should have been the lead song off the 2nd album. The fools in management!
To be honest though. I do like the song. Grudgingly, it does sound like a fucking hit single. The only problem was, the band had little following left after the botch by UNI of the bands great 2nd album.
This was supposed to be a more rock oriented song, but UNI wanted it watered down so it would sound like a hit single. oh it was a single alright, but not a hit single.
@MIKECNW The group name is a homage to The Beatles' song "Strawberry Fields Forever". How they decided on the alarm clock part of it is beyond me. But considering the era, I would venture to guess that they weren't exactly sober when they came up with it. ;-)
@MIKECNW Ahh ok. Well, I'm from Baltimore, so I can relate to some of the lyrics in the song. "Baltimore is music, dancing in the street. Half chewed Double Bubble tugging at our feet." "Melted tar in crosswalks, crab shells in the park. Pavement frying our poor toes, until long after dark." Just a song about a lazy summertime experience here in Charm City.
@frizzlefrap Music is an art, just like painting and sculpture. Just because I find modern art to be crap doesn't mean someone else loves it. personally I find most modern singers to be worse. There was no autotune then, so it took more than a pretty face and overstated sex appeal to land a deal. There are some today who can cut it, but too many rely on gimmicks and fixing to even sound passable. Take away their computers, and then see how they sound.
@Lhyrra with the exception of nancy sinatra of course. haha. But yes, you're right that all music speaks to someone and what's crap to one, may be gold to someone else. The nice thing about music is that there's so much out there and something for everyone. There's a lot of terrific modern art, and creative music. Most of it is def not being played on Top 40 radio, or in heavy rotation on MTV. There's also a lot of great stuff like this that is awesome and shouldn't be forgotten. :)
@nannibobo1 Having been a drummer, a singer, and a participant in several sports where coordination and precision are key, I have to say you are only too right about being high. Tried it once, and what we recorded sounded like someone throwing a music store down a long steep hill.
When I was 11 I remembered listening to the top 30 hits late at night on my AM transistor radio. Barefoot in Baltimore was one of the songs. Timeless music!
@frizzlefrap Isn't that what listening to old music is all about? Certainly nobody listens to 40+ year old music for social relevance. Even songs that are only a few years ago would be nostalgic, as music lovers associate certain songs with certain times of their lives. We can debate the group's talent, but I will still maintain that I'd rather listen to this than anything I'd hear on a station playing "today's music", ALL of it garbage.
Yes, of course this kind of bubblegum sunshine/psychedelic pop is dwarfed by much greater achievements of the time -- Lucy in the Sky, Strawberry fields, See Emily Play etc -- but for someone around then a slight track like this can mean a lot cos of remembered experiences linked to it. And whatever, it's nice music for anyone!
@centuryrox ....... actually, you are correct about nostalgia ..... and about most of todays songs (there are some decent songs today though). and i sympathise with your liking of SAC ..... but ...... they still are not very good. ....... that "black butter" crap sounds like they were high as a kite during the whole taping. "da dada da da da dadada" .... way to lame for me!
@frizzlefrap Okay you are entitled to your opinion. However, A Typo here Mr. frizzlefrap. You should have written: "TOO lame for me!" NOT " to lame for me!" Now...Speaking of LAME! If you're gonna post something negative, try and not be lame yourself. How about spell checking before posting. DUH!
BTW, we weren't high when we recorded that song...nor any of them. Too hard to play difficult music like this when you were not in touch with all your faculties.
man! they are super genious' when it came to Incense and Peppermints! i mean i heard every song from it and it was just......AMAZING!!! i love all the songs!!! meaningful, wonderful, and peaceful.....ABSOLUTLY FANTASTIC!!! =DDD

mediocre music ..... nostalgia is the only thing making you like this music .... "incense and pepperments" was the ONLY song that was decent.
