  • Travel. Deng sucks

  • @krazzyyo2 yeah i was about to say...he takes like 5 steps for a spin move after the dribble lmao

  • title must be "Luol Deng Explains The Spin Move"

  • its like watching just a Skeleton i have the feeling he has no flesh!

  • u can actually carry the ball on a spin move

  • Comment removed

  • lol Loul deng signature moves Lolololololololololol!!!

  • 0:23 priceless.

  • i get confused when looking at his legs. whenever i do this i feel like im traveling o.o

  • Forget Deng's spin move, give us a break down on DROSE'S spin move! (:

  • he took three steps. these fucks in the nba cant even play fundamental basketball

  • it's 1,2 + pivot foot, stop complaining it's not a travel goddammit

  • His emotion loooks funny~

  • he is looks like a monkey, its not bein racist it a fact, its like sayin black ppl have dark skin

  • @kingfish1993 STFU!

  • @kingfish1993

it is racist because he doesn't look a monkey, YOU DUMBASS.

  • I'm pretty sure travelling rules state you can't take consecutive steps with one foot. His left foot was outside the free throw area on the first step, spin jumped and landed on his left foot again on the free throw line.

  • its a pivot not travel

  • he hops twice on his left foot then hits the floor with his right one and brings the left foot on the floor again... 1...2...3...4?

  • @dodoStvr u dont know anything about basketball do u?

  • isint this traveling

  • @kggarrnett watch carefully again he only did 2 steps

  • wow..he is about to make foul...lol

  • BLOOD DIAMOND

  • he is just a jump shooter now. He used to make Great sharp off the ball cuts to the hoop and finish well. Now he just shoots.

  • those of u that try this move and don get enough space

Here a hint 0:10 look at his left foot he make a little hop when he spining

  • Deng is too slow to pull of this move now. He's not as quick as he was three years ago after all those injuries. That's why he commits all those charges.

  • 0:18 - 0:19 lol.

  • he walks though

  • I have a serious question: after you spin and take your 2 steps can you still jump with 2 feet or do you have to jump off of 1 foot to finish at the basket? please help a scrub like learn :D

  • @piann00b no you can't scrub. it's called a travel. it doesn't even sound like you're very good so don't worry about learning this move anyway lol

  • @mhernandez94 lol your gay :D

  • @piann00b lol you suck at basketball and don't know the rules

  • @mhernandez94 your right I do suck at basketball, so I guess it makes you feel better to despise people that want to learn but are discouraged by dicks like you; btw I bet you suck ballz too 'cause really good ballers are humble and actually want to help others get better, and you my gay nerd are just ignorant :D

  • @piann00b i never said i was really good. but i don't SUCK, i'll tell you that. and it's impossible for someone to get better if they don't even know the rules :D

  • @mhernandez94 blah blah blah no use talking to ignorance

  • @piann00b faggot

  • @mhernandez94 ignorant.

  • @mhernandez94 lol your gay :D

  • did the ball die?

  • ya ive watched mostly all of Luol games since hes been drafted and he probably has done this move 3 o4 4times lol

  • what shoes is he wearin??????

  • like luol and love the bulls...but him teaching a signature dribbling move is kinda like ben wallace teaching a signature free throw.

  • @jtza87. LOL Exactly. WHy doesn;t Luol do the move he is teaching? If he can live up to that hype he has had since draft day 2004 then the Bulls could upset the Heat in 2010-11. And I like that Ben Wallace Free Throw Analogy LOL.

  • go shit loul

  • who gives a damn about this guy

  • @IGETMONEYUDRESSFUNNY

harsh... but yeah people in chicago gives a damn about him...

  • @souljasai not really..

  • @souljasai thats sad cause he's a really gifted player man

  • @IGETMONEYUDRESSFUNNY who gives a damn about you. not me. ive played against this guy he is a real cool person.

  • @IGETMONEYUDRESSFUNNY you do otherwise why did you watch it

  • 0:21

  • one-hand spin move isn't hard, as long as you take a dribble on your pivot foot and use that upward momentum from the bounce to 'drag' (palm DOWN)the ball, and then dribble again on the opposite foot. This prevents any form of travel. What is hard is what you do next with it. Most people when they practices 'moves' is that they stop after the move, as opposed to finishing a basket, that is where fouls are committed. If you travel or carry during spin move, you need to learn the move again.

  • @CastorFrost Spot on!

  • used to go to my high school just proves anyone can make it in nba never give up

  • @shadowse255 lol no it doesnt it just means he was sick and he made it to the NBA lol.

  • im not a big fan of basketball really... but how good are luol deng and ben gordon? i know they are both british but do they play for tem GB yet? how much of an impact would they make to the team?

  • @SamUKest89 alot Gordon is great shooter and Deng has one of the prettiest mid-range shots in the NBA!

  • @SamUKest89 they're not on the same team anymore and they both contribute in their own ways

  • I could never get a good spin move back when I actually played ball regularly. But thats mainly because I never really practiced it. I think a good handle and dribble moves are what kept me from being a legit player. I was more of an athlete with a nice lefty jumper and decent passer but never worked on my game enough to develop.

  • the only tricky thing about a spin move is that if you hold the ball underhand its going to be a travel. You have to spin quick enough while basically palming the ball to keep it in your possession. Plus you can get dizzy ;/

  • @hameed That is if you're dribbling. As a part of your two steps to shoot, spinning while holding the ball, in any way, is not a travel.

  • my fault for not specifying. You are correct

  • signature move? he doesnt even do this move often.

  • @lebron15594

    LOL

  • @lebron15594 But when he makes it he makes it best!!!

  • I think this guy does the spin move well without carrying or traveling. Notice that there is only one step away from the pivot foot. This is legal. Most players will spin and then take three or more shuffle steps which is traveling. They usually get away with it because it is very fast and hard to see.

  • he travelled

  • no he dribbled so it wasnt a travel

  • good job teaching us how to carry

  • its only a carry if he dribbles afterward

  • @jeffbass999 you have to switch hands

  • Air Alert has good exercises. But its number of repetitions and sets are what injure knees and feet. More touches on the ground equals more joint damage. Do weight training and do low amounts of plyometric exercises after to get a good workout without injury.

  • lol

  • It's just a spin move guys

  • travel much?

  • But I will get dizzy using this~!!!!!

  • nice..imma have to practice

  • REPPIN LONDON TOWN

  • I am a guard in our school, and sometimes they would play me as a center. Is it a big advantage if I will be able to master some Center moves even though I am a guard?

  • Y not?...

  • yeah. I've realized the advantage of mastering Center moves. Now im dominating most of the pointguards. This made me drive easily through the basket.

  • It's advantageous for you to play 1 on 1 inside wif the PGs

  • any1 plz respond... if i tried this in a gradeschool league do u think ill get called for a cary

  • as long as you don't put your hand under the ball... you should be fine

  • wow. i wanna get that skill.

  • lol why did luol deng get this commercial haha and dont get me wrong i'm a huge bulls fan from chicago but this is funny to me

  • hey i need to ask basket ball question and id appreciate if someone could give me the answer....now say there are 2 players on the same team, and one of them shoots the ball from the mid court the ball hits the ring but fails to go in.....but this other player who is on the same team jumps up nd pushes the ball in while its resting on the ring...what will that count as? a point for the team? or will that be a penalty and the other team gets the point?

  • It counts as interference because you cant touch the ball while its in the rim of the hoop, therefore this gives the other team possession of the ball.

  • No points are awarded at all; the basket is waved off.

    It's called offensive goal tending.

  • Its obviously not a carry scrubs. he puts the ball on the floor and does a spin step. a spin step is when u spin off a defender using only two steps and not dribbling. u can see he doesn't dribble after the spin he just jumps. COMPLETLEY LEGAL

  • First of all if u take 3 steps ur a faggot. I think ur chattin shit, but i cant believe ur sayin they all 3 steps in the NBA. "nd of all. THis = NO TRAVEL anway. pivot off the dribble means he spins on the foot he stops dirbbling on i.e. he has 2 steps left to take. SO it looks like a travel i giv u that. but it aint.

  • its not a travel bc he dribbles off the left foot (no step) and finally finishes with the left foot so he took 2 steps !!

  • wow wat retards

in the NBA is 3 steps not two

    dumbasses

  • no. in the NBA, a player has the option of 2 steps. only.

In this video, Deng sets his foot BEFORE holding the ball (so that doesn't count as one of his two steps). Then, the holds the ball, spins (one step), re-stabilizes (2nd step) and jumps up off of both feet simultaneously.

  • If he has picked up the ball, and continues to turn on the foot that is planted, that becomes his pivot foot, meaning he can do whatever he wants with the other foot as long as he doesn't pick that foot up.

It technically should be a travel, but what you're saying is the generally accepted rule most refs use. Otherwise there would be no spin move... =/

  • no, if a foot is placed on the ground before a player picks a ball up/holds a ball off a dribble, then that player has 2 steps to use, meaning that his NEXT step is the pivot foot (which can be raised in the case of a jumpshot/floater)

I was a ref. so no discussion here

  • Just cause you were a ref, doesn't mean you were a good one...

And yes I see what you're saying, but if he plants his foot then picks up the ball, but continues to spin on that foot after the ball has been picked up then that foot is the pivot foot.

However the discrepancy between what I said and what you said is impossible to judge in real time, so refs generally tend to rule it the way you described.

Let's be real though... It's not like they call traveling in the NBA anyway....

  • D1aau,

you seem like you enjoy basketball. one of the most important things to enjoying the ame is having a good understanding of the rules. I don't want to argue with you; you can believe what you like. but just for your information, the rule is:

if the foot goes down before the ball is palmed, carried, or held, then that foot does not count as part of the two steps.

I'd rather tell you this online than have you get in an argument about this with someone at the YMCA or whatever.

  • So as long as your foot goes down before you pick up the ball, you can pivot as much as you want, and still have two steps...?

  • good question, D1aau. if your left foot goes down, then you hold the ball (after the left foot foot is on the ground) then you can have two steps. however, those two steps have to follow immediately. so it would look like this: left foot down, ball is held, right foot step (pivot foot), left foot step.

  • in your scenario, if the left foot goes down, the ball is held, and then the SAME LEFT foot is used to pivot, the player forfeits the right to 2 additional steps, and MUST finish on the right foot, or with a simultaneous jump-shot.

remember, the two steps are an extension of the play. if the play is broken, the two steps are obsolete, and a travel will be called.

  • So you proved my point... at least I think...

    You kinda lost me...

But my point was after he picks up the ball he continues to spin and pivot with that foot, which establishes that as his pivot foot, and takes away his right to two steps.

Like I originally said though, it's too difficult of a judgment call in real time, so refs almost always just say that the player didn't pivot with his first step. Otherwise there would be no spin move...

  • hey man, sry 4 the late reply,

how's life? me, I'm coaching two some youth camps this summer and i started a vertical leap program. Air alert. you can find it online. it's cool. anyway, I just wanted to say that on the first step, a player can pivot and ALSO pivot on the second step AS LONG AS the first pivot leads to the second one (therefore making it a spin move then pivot) so that player doesn't lose his right to the two steps. if he pivots more than once with 1st foot, he loses the right.

  • 1) Air Alert is a terrible terrible vertical leap program.... if you're doing it i'd advise you stop.

    2) So what you're saying is that if you put your left foot down first, then pick up your dribble you can do a 720 spin on your left foot and then put your right foot down and pivot again as long as it's immediately after the 720 spin...

    Doesn't make sense to me...sounds like...traveling?

  • 1) Air Alert is a decent vertical leap program. it's not the program that counts, it's the fact that you're following a set routine, and pushing your limits. In addition, I've added some weight training portions to it as well as muscle recovery supplements. Furthermore, diet is very important, so if you've tried air alert and failed, don't blame the program.

    2) a 720 spin would constitute an end of motion/make that foot a pivot. so yes, it would be traveling. but I didn't see that in this vid.

  • Air alert isn't a decent vertical leap program at all... what it is, is a recipe... The perfect recipe for patellar tendonitis, over training, and foot injuries...

Furthermore, changing your diet doesn't change the program... whether you're eating 120g of protein limited fat and fruits and vegetables, or if you're drinking soda, and eating pizza and ice cream the program is still going to suck...

And not to mention that about 90% of "muscle recovery supplements" are worthless...

  • You don't know what you're talking about if you're:

    1) Using Air Alert

    2) Putting all your faith in "muscle recovery supplements

    3) Hoping your diet will make the program better...

Yes you need to follow a routine... but follow a routine that will lead you to the desired result most efficiently, and I guarantee you that's not Air Alert.

And to your last statements that's contradicting what you said previously...

  • I thought you said you could spin on the left as long as it's put down before the all is picked up without having to establish that as your pivot foot...

What's the exact amount of spinning you can do without "constituting a stop in motion"?

Is there a certain number of degrees you can turn before you break that threshold?

    180 degrees? 133 degrees?

  • this has always confused me as well, thats why i like to try to keep the dribble alive during a spin, problem is... thats really fucking hard

  • Yeh, it's especially hard to do with carrying the ball.

Dunno if this would make it more complicated or less complicated for you, but it helped for me.

When I spin dribbling with my right hand to my right I dribble the ball as I start with my right hand, and as I spin and the ball comes back up I resume my dribble with my left.

I've found this makes it easier to not carry the ball, and also protects the ball from being stripped if you happen to spin into a defender.

  • Exactly what I've been practicing

I'll make sure to remember this

    thanks

  • Well this isn't the only way to do it. It's whatever works best for you.

For me I've found that, this method is the easiest, and is usually the best way to protect the ball. But this doesn't necessarily mean that it's the best for every situation, or that it's the best for every individual.

Find what works best for you and stick to it.

  • hahah ur such a dumbass

  • OMFG there are so many fukin retards in here. NO CARRY. NO TRAVEL. learn to play ball u fukin tarts.

  • Fukin tarts are good, but I prefer strawberry.

Nothin like a good strawberry tart in the morning.

  • erm..am i supposed to spin usin my heels or my toes??kinda confused wif tt..

  • toes, your heels will get you way off balance.

  • thx=)

  • Noobs think its a carry are you fucking retarded. You must bounce the ball again after the carry for a carry. Deng bounces the ball then does the spin thing and carries but doesn't bring the back down and finishes with the dunk. If anything you could argue for a dunk but that doesn't happen in the nba. It's a pretty basic move but is not seen in international bball much probably cause the refs do call the travel. phil jackson even said whenever d-wade does his spin move that he travels.

  • Well he did bounce the ball after the spin, But it's not a carry if he bounces once and finishes.

  • werd

  • I first thought it's Usian Bolt...Maybe it's my fault.

  • That's not carrying because he drops the ball immediately after the spin

  • no. but he doesnt dribble again after he carries so its not called a carry. rite after he carries the bal he dunks

  • look at 38 seconds. he did not carry. he spun off of his defender and dribbled because if he didn't, he would've carrried

  • he did a fucken spin move alright just live with it

  • If you notice, the first animation of him doing the spin he is actually going for a layup right away, so he is not carrying it. The second animation at 38 seconds he is doing a spin move into a dribble, and he doesn't lift the second foot while pivoting (spinning) with the first foot (pivot foot) so no carry.

  • check out my basketball video that's in the finals for the gillette next phenom contest, just click on my channel and it's the first video that comes up, if you like it, the video description explains how to vote, thanks alot and I hope you all like it!

  • bullshit, you could grab the ball at the top and walk anywhere that's just stupid.

  • no, i didn't say that you can grab the ball. Grabing the ball is like picking it up

So you mean that stutter-step is traveling? When you stuterstep you take like 10 steps. right?

  • dude then how the fuck do you do a stutter step. learn the game before you try to jusify your stupidity.

  • i was aiming my comments towards Gocavs1990 to clear things up.

  • all I was saying is that when you grab the ball you have your hand at the top of the ball as well. and you can't walk across the whole field while grabbing the ball right?

  • I didnt know people could claim regular moves. LMAO!!!

  • isn't that a travel... he takes two steps then he slides his second foot before putting the ball on the ground

  • yea it looks like a travel to me too

  • it looks like a travel to me too.

  • yeah it does. it looks like you're traveling towards stupidity.

  • huh?

  • its no travel hes takeing the steps before a layup

  • Gr8 spin move!!!!I've seen something similar in the all-star weekend during the match between Eastern vs Western All-stars by Vince Carter...But i think that Luol Deng has a great talent...

  • Where'd you find this? I've seen the Nash vids but not this.

  • Exclusive ;)

  • nice spin move¡¡

  • nice
