While this dance may be found within the Ummah community of the Tausug, it can hardly be called a "Muslim" dance. It is a secular dance. There is nothing religious about this dance. This dance along with daling-daling, pangalay, linggisan, pattong can all be found within the Sulu archipelago but the movements and traditions associated with some of them predate Islam and has nothing to do with religious practice.

I have heard several of this music during different festivals when some group of kids presented a Muslim dance using fans with malong as skirts and beautiful ornamintals on their bodies.
sarap naman pakinggan kahit di ko maintindihan. Sana may sumasayaw din.
