When it comes down to reality, all opinions aside, there really is no comparison.
Gretzky had 61 league records when he retired and still retains 59 of them almost a decade later. Orr only holds positional records(for a defenceman).
Gretzky is the only player EVER to hit 200+ pts in a single season and did so 4 times. Even Lemieux(who is also better than Orr)fell short at 199.
The stats speak for themselves. Gretzky is the best there ever was. Period.
I know plenty about hockey asshole including the couple of points you just made. The comparison, btw, wasn't just being made by me, I'm simply stating my side of an argument that has been ongoing for quite some time. And when players of different positions are being compared, the stats are king. And if you want to talk about positional records or unique accomplishments look at Gretzky amongst all forwards and you'll find so many it will make your head spin.
Yes stats are misleaing.
Mario didn't play as many games after his skills declined which is why his averages are higher than Gretzky's.
If Mario had kept on playing for 5-6 years after his skills had declined his stats would have been diluted too.

Stats are misleading
If one is blessed with good health and a good team you can't compare him to one with lesser fortunes
Lemieux missed 513 games and played 572 less than Wayne.
Based on averges Mario would have scored 182 more goals than Wayne had he played his 513 and 227 more goals than Wayne had he played as many games.
According to Doctors Lemieux was never better than 80% healthy due to his back at any point in his carrer.
Paul Coffee won cups with both and said Mario was the better.

Do you even know anyhing about hockey. Why are you comparing season points for a center vs a defenceman?
Orr won the Conn Smythe trophy (most points in a season) twice. I don't think that any other defenceman has even ever been close to winning.
Orr's +/- stats were off the planet - much better than Gretzky's.

Gretzky's 4 highest scoring years were 83-84 at 205 pts, 84-85 at 208 pts, 81-82 at 212 pts and 85-86 at 215 pts.
Orr's best seasons, 71-72 at 117 pts, 69-70 at 120 pts, 73-74 at 122 pts and 74-75 at 135 pts.
Gretzky scored a total of 2857 pts in his career.
Orr only had 915.
Orr never scored 50 goals in a season whereas Gretzky did it 9 times

Bobby Orr couldn't even compare to a pimple on Wayne Gretzky's ass when it comes to hockey skills.
Consider the stats:
Gretzky had 894 career goals.
Orr had 270.
Gretzky had 1963 career assists(more than any other player's total career points).
Orr had 645.
Gretzky's highest scoring season was 92 for goals and 163 for assists.
Orr's was 46 for goals and 102 for assists.
