@bigredphenom I got a FC Twin and it's better than the GN Twin but I think the FC Twin controllers are better than the Retro Duo's controllers but I use my SNES controllers because the FC Twin controllers aren't reliabe as the original Super Nintendo Controllers.
The original console is the way to go. Some of these emulator consoles cost more than the original Genesis or NES. The colors are slightly off on the Genesis portion of the system. The sound is not quite as bad with the NES game. The colors are way off on NES.
there's a small issue- i was told about this system, apparently if you play anything but sonic, there's issues on the 16 bit- and the Nes side is okay.
Games normally have a difference in sound and volume. The little glitch at the top isn't an issue to me. I play nintendo games on my xbox, psp, dreamcast, and wii so i would have no problem adapting. I want one of these because playing the way i am is illegal and i want to give respect to my favorite systems of all time! :)
My SNES collection is much smaller than my NES collection (45 games, not including ones that I've loaned out at the moment), but much more treasured. Mind you, there may not be hundreds of games in my collections, but I guarantee you I play every single game I own regularly. The ones I most treasure are Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Zelda: Link To The Past, Super Metroid, Super Castlevania IV, Super Mario RPG, Secret Of Mana, Super Turrican, Mega Man X, and Super Bomberman 2. LOVE those games!
Awesome! I used to have about that when i had my nes in the 80's Like a moron i sold all of them and the system to that stupid funcoland for 9 bucks! I don't know if you know who funcoland was. I'm not sure how popular they were all i know was they ripped people off.
You're very right. Funcoland were so eager to rip their patrons off... It's a shame really. My parents held a garage sale and sold my NES, along with my 300+ games... Took me 15 years to build up that collection, and I couldn't even begin to tell you how pissed I was about that... Slowly but surely, I'm building my collection back up! Great to see there are others doing the same thing!
Since I never had a genesis or NES when i was young (and i dont remember the quality when i did play one)
So i wouldn't have noticed anything wrong myself .
I really want a nintendo, i feel i have missed out- I played games such as Destruction Derby 2 , Monster Trucks and abe's oddysee (exoddus too) to name a few on the PC- So you could say i grew up in the PS era..
The sound on that thing was...horribad. Ear rape, almost. The crackling from the ring noises...I'll steer clear of this. I'll find a new Genny before I buy this hunk of shit. Thanks dude!
Emulator is not fun at all, sound is not that good, The original console is the real thing! Why? It's more status to show friends your console collection and games instead of a computer folder on a CD or HDD.
That's all good, but having a system to actually play them on TV has it's own nostalgic feel. There is nothing like playing the games directly on the consoles.
well i think its pretty good for both, seeing as all you need to do for the nes portion is turn up the volume and figure out another way to play. not that hard
The audio is probably because the NES was mono and it's just sending the sound out one speaker. But I don't remember the sky being purple in SMB1.... I have a Family Boy and it works fine on about 90 of my 100 games.
Honestly there is no such thing as a good nes clone due to one word, clone. The problem with these systems is since they are using cheap parts to somewhat replicate the way a nes works, there is always going to be some sort of glitches. The only true way to get fully working nes gameplay is through emulation on pc or the much better way, a real nes system. The 72 pin connector on a real front loader nes can be fixed very easily to prevent the good old blinking problem.
Top loaders are ok but I honestly do not like them due to their lack of composite video. The front loader has composite video right on the side but the non japanese top loader doesnt have it, so your only way to play is through rf which doesnt look too good in my opinion.
I believe a mod is possible but its pretty hard unless you are confortable working with wires, solder and modding things. There is no simple way to do it.
well, the yobo fc game console is one of the better ones for the price, the retro duo is great because the super nintendo accuracy is basicly perfect and the nes accuracy is better than the other clones. so i reccomend the retro duo if you want a good clone. if you dont want to spend too much, you can get a yobo fc. or maybe a fc3 plus.
The biggest problem with clone systems is the often use the one chip design where they have simplified the nes or genesis hardware to one chip (Noac - Nintendo on a chip or Goac - Genesis on a Chip). This often leads to sound/graphics problems and some games not even working (Most nes clones cant play Castlevania 3). If you open that system I bet it has very little electronics inside. Probably pretty light too.
One thing is that you actually can make that louder, but it involves disassembling the unit and... soldering a part onto the motherboard, which I dread doing after killing my Gen-X soldering some parts. PNP-type transistors will fix the problem, but I don't know how many are needed, as the sound channel Sonic's jump sound is played on(PSG; the rings and all are FM Synthesis) is very silent, which in turn causes missing notes in the music of games like Thunder Force II and Lightening Force.
I was one who mentioned the possibility of fixing the audio over at Sega-16(username is Ace). I just bought a GN Twin to replace my Gen-X, so I can find the points where you can take the sound signals from the GN Twin(FM Left/Right and PSG), as well as start to draw out a schematic of the Genesis 3's LM324 audio mixing circuit. Once that's done(tried it on my Gen-X when it worked), you will make the GN Twin and Gen-X sound like a Genesis 3, but unlike the Genesis 3, you will have Stereo sound.
Cool, I was looking around for alternative ideas for hooking up my genesis (since my TV has no RF input) but I'm going to stick with just getting an AV cable for my Genesis 1.
You should give these units a go. The NES audio may be inaccurate/muffled, and the Genesis audio strains, but the Genesis/NES combo units are some nice pieces of 2-in-1 hardware.
And I now have to get a GN Twin for myself, as my Gen-X no longer works. You can check out my Gen-X VS. Original Hardware videos if you want to see how the Gen-X(and GN Twin) play NES and Genesis games.
not only the audio, the picture's bad too. and I can't stand playoing nes on that backwards controller. it dosen't sound like a big annoyance, but when you actually play it, you'll get pissed really quick. that's why it took me so long to get the fire flower in mario.
I honestly don't mind the reversed controls. And, yeah, I also noticed on its competitor, the Gen-X, that the image is too colorful(and also has some wrong colors, check out my Gen-X VS. Original Hardware videos, and you'll see what I mean), and the text is made very blurry. Does the Genesis side on the GN Twin have a green hue on its image(play a game like Thunder Force II or something with the sweep lighting Sega logo when the game boots, and you'll see that there's too much green)?
Wow, seeing the NES side being inaccurate is despicable, if you ask me. Yobo released an updated FC Twin with near-perfect NES audio, so why the F- did Yobo revert to the F-ing old NES clone technology?! Gah, even the Gen-X isn't spared from that.
And, well, the Genesis side here doesn't fare much better than my Gen-X, which has the same volume issues. The volume issues have to do with poor circuitry inside the units, which can be replaced if you take a soldering iron to the system.
"And, well, the Genesis side here doesn't fare much better than my Gen-X, which has the same volume issues."
Actually, I take that back. The GN Twin's Genesis side has volume issues, but not to the extent of the Gen-X. It does share some with the Gen-X, but the GN Twin sounds a tad bit better.
yeesh!!! i can't believe i almost bought this system!! after seeing your review i may just try to hunt down a gently used NES and with a little tech know how and a new 72 pin connector, i could restore an original console of my own instead of wasting my time with a mere clone. i'm an avid Sega Genesis collector and I thought this would be a neat addition to my collection (I wouldn't have to buy any Sega games seeing as I have almost 100) and a gateway to some forgotten NES gold...I guess not...

I thought it was great, even the NES.
who needs fucking sound?
My question is
1. can you get the gun from NES to plug in
2. the original Genesis could play Sega Master System games, can this one do the same?
SmoothCriminalAaron 2 years ago
1. If you expand upon my NES controller mod, then possibly. The fc3 plus uses a gun with the same plugs.
2. With the power base converter, they turn on, but the controller doesn't work(so I've heard--I don't own one.)
pepsiru1es92 2 years ago
ok, gun plugs in like controlloer?
