I was in Vegas a few weeks ago and went to Freemont Street. With all 12 million lights above us rocking to the tune of American Pie. It doesn't get any better than that.
@atfatw Just about anyone will sound better when you can edit out any mistakes, do retakes, and make sure balance is perfect. His voice I personally think sounds fantastic in this recording.
No, you are correct, nakananteteng. The article in the paper started by talking about a bus trip they took a few days earlier. That confused me with my dates! They are missed.
Is really interesting cause this song talks about janis joplin, the jester (bob dylan, elvis prestley. But the main is of course Buddy Holly who was Don's hero, so the day buddy died that was the day the music died, according to Don.
the meaning of this song and every song is determined by your own individual experiences in life and the "place" that you are coming from. It means something different to every individual that listens to it.
I knew this song sounds a little bit of Bob Dylan style but I think Don Mclean showed he also got his own style in many aspects. And today, 4th of July, this is really make sense to listen the" american pie" for today
because it describe the america in the 70's and perhaps the continuation up to this period. The generation will always continue and will never die but will go on and on forever.
I remember that many of us would try to figure out what this song was about. I head a DJ explain it all one day and it ruined for me in some way. I still liked the song but never again tried to figure what the heck it was about. I knew. Thanks for posting it.

@oldladiesmakemesing Yes. Even "live" performers now use voice modulators. Love the lyrics, tune and performance. About the revolution in music.

The three pioneers of Rock & Roll: Buddy, Ritchie & JP "The Big Bopper" died on February 2, 1959 (fifty years now).
The widowed bride was JP's. She was pregnant when he died.
Thanks Don for a fitting tribute.
Thanks MacGarVision for posting this wonderful video.
