@funkguru87 Technical has nothing to do with anything in music. It's all about writing and feel. Plenty of 15 year olds are technical and study what others do but doesn't mean they can write. What Jon Theodore has on the drums can't be taught. Even if that crap did matter Jon is not technically deficient. Have you listened to his playing? It's brilliant. Technical talk is pretentious musician bullshit; in the end all that matters is sound.Peace.

If you've heard the pulled to bits cover half the song is Thomas going crazy. You'll hear the greatness that is Thomas Pridgen. Jon was good but I'd rather have a drummer who is a) better b) wants to be in the band c) has input in the music creation d)makes the band happy d) Can broaden the horizons of the band. Stop living in the past, Jon has gone to work with Zach de la rocha so embrace that, and embrace this.

thomas is so rapid-fire but jon was so harmonious and bombastic. in my opinion, jon suits the mars volta much better especially in frances the mute amputechture too has some of the most well composed drum parts ive ever heard on a cd. but thomas definately shines new light on the mars volta which isnt bad

my god... every incarnation of this band amazes and stuns me each time it is reformed. TP has the best attack I've heard in any TMV drummer yet... I really thought Blake sucked and was often offtime. He clearly didnt have the chops to hack it. This guy makes John Theodore look like a chump... but I still love me some JT. Each time the music grows, another aspect must grow as well. Its musical selection!

I've seen him 3 times and each time his voice has been amazing, I don't think he's far from being the best singer, he is definitely up there. Really I don't know what people have against this band, people enjoy picking them apart, I am a lead singer in a band and I know what it's like to sing day in and day out, there are going to be times when you are not gonna hit every note. I'm pretty sure The Mars Volta did not write their music because they were worried about pleasing critics or music theory students (or ANYONE for that matter). You can listen to Amputecture and get what you want from it, good or bad. That goes for all of their albums and that's the only way TMV would want it. That's what music is about. It's an adventure that your personality takes you on... the music is just the avenue.
