This fucken guy! If there were no black people in the video you would complain about that for sure. You would probably ASSume at that point that blacks are 95% of Akai's customer base and should be represented in the ad. You're not conscious, smart, informed, or profound. You sound like some body's wife.
Well, never thought that way about AKAI. I'm not a producer. Actually I only write lyrics but I need beats, so I just got the mpc 5000. As a producer tell me please. Isnt that a nice piece to work with. Im not a Pro, I just have some ideas to make my first mix tape. I would like to keep in touch with you. Big Hug from Spain
Young Brutha, U've pretty much regurgitated the exact same sentiment the Dr Dre spewed on the set of Tupac's California Love Video shoot, "It's not the equipment, it's the motherfucka running it." I believe that. I'm gonna go with the AKAI tho', nothing against N.I. but The Akai is the originator and it's works. Their rep speaks for itself. Peace
If It was that easy to make sounds that could compare to the legendary mpc sounds native instruments would already have it plus fl studio sounds suck compared to even one of the oldest Mpcs thats the difference between Dr Dre ,Timbaland ,Scott Storck vs your music
The MPCR is also a sound card with ins and outs plus spdif and midi so thats $600 bucks right there then you have a well designed strong MPC + the computer integrated software and samples.
This thing definitely has more value than maschine I'm not surprised by the price
Most people who already have maschine hate on the MPCR. I never bought into maschine because it looks to frail. plastic and toyish like a kids keyboard.
The design of MPCR obviously is better than maschine. The software in my opinion is better on the eyes than maschine.
And you are?! You must've been either on your period, girlfriend made you mad, or dumped you, or you just need attention. You're very hypocritical because you say," I didn't the MPC 3000 had a sound" and then you go on to talk about SID. HEY.. HYPOCRITE, wake up! AKAI DOES have a sound that you cant "make". So does the ASR 10. So does pro tools, so does logic! I CAN GO ON FOR YEARS! What the reason you have so many audio interfaces?! DIFFERENT SOUNDS! Disregard this pre-menstral bedroom producer!
Idk man...ever since I bought a padKontrol I vowed I'd never buy an MPC with real stiff pads ever again. I'm surprised akai is tryna get into the "toy mpc" game.
The SID chip was used in the Commodore 64. It used an analogue filter with it's digital oscillators. I made a tune soley in the C64 here -> soundcloud(dot)com/decilinear/c64tunenewl .
Both Native Instruments and Akai should just focus on making better stuff like standalone hardware and market towards the serious music customers instead of trying to reach the masses with flimsy computer controllers. Akai used to be the best before the MPC5000. Now all they been doing is making stupid shit for the fucking iphone. ITS A DAMN PHONE WTF.
They should release a mpc that runs off ableton.. imagine a mpc that has ableton... OK I know fellaz I'm just dreaming.. but that would be sick. I'm actually getting tired of software controllers. I have the open labs miko Lxd. I have maschine micro. I use ableton and protools. But I'm a real mpc head. This new controller looks nice and we are all suckers for bright lights...this will sell
Lots of ppl complained when the 5k came out cause the demo video had a white guy playing nu-skool electro, not a big time producer playing hip hop, really, google it, so Akai was doing what the customers asked for. I think swiss beats even mentioned that in his anti5k manifesto he publicly released a week after it came out. Now go fix your broken key and make a beat.
@TR929 It is, the problem is Maschine doesn't support multitimbral vsti's. So if I want to use 2 different instruments in Kontakt, in Maschine I have to make 2 instances of Kontakt.
I gotcha, so you cant even load an extra instrument and route it to a new track ? For instance the waldorf PPG vst is 16 MT also, but you have to load a new audio track and route output 1 output 2 etc...
And NI PLEASE give us multitimbral vsti functionality so I don't have to have 12 separate instances of Kontakt and choke my CPU half to death!! (In addtion to what you said @8:30)
It's funny to .me,time stretching and .all these other things, were already an option I'm flstudio for years, fl studio plus a mpd does anything .maschime can do and more, and if also thinks we gonna.pay 1200. For a plug in and a longer mpd with more.butttons, they are way out.of.touch with reality,$700 because of the .interface might work, but both are .not .worth .more than $400 -500
I think the MPC Studio will be more of a suitable product as far as DIRECT competition to Maschine than the Renaissance. The price is $599 so that is very reasonable. AND YES THE STUDIO AND Renaissance will have timestretch.. Though not sure about sidechaining.
And $1299 for the Renaissance is a little pricey for something that I'm sure won't be as popular or more ideal than the MPC Studio..
If you are in the market for a sampler and dont buy something with real sample power in real time like a Elektron Octatrack you have wasted your money.
Nice post and analysis man.I was feeling excited about the new MPCs too but the cheesy marketing, lack of in depth demos.,Akai's poor track record in terms of software development and support as well as their tendancy to over price their initial products based upon their name/lineage have made me skeptical. They seem to be using their customers as guinea pigs and beta testers. They are throwing out conceptual products which may not make it to the market for months or (#cough Synthstation49) years.
I'll hold out to see what Native Instruments answers back with. I'd like some sliders along with the knobs added to the hardware. I like the feel of sliders to automate parameters more than knobs. More fluid.
Good video. This is very well thought out and I do agree with a lot of this. Granted I do not own Maschine nor do I have a desire to buy Maschine or the Renaissance but I think Akai is way late on this. This is what the MPD16 should have been in 2004.
@62068 I DO TOO, first time i ever checked him out and i cant front on a word he says because from what i heard and have been hearing its all true. I know a lot of "OMG i must have it gearheads", where im a bit more, "let me see whats wrong first from listening to the gripes" and make a balanced decision. but it does look sweet, LOL
" Waah I need more placements! They're pandering to an urban market!" ...of course they are - it's an MPC, this is how advertising works. Should an opera singer be using the MPC in the ad? Or a country singer? Whats your point? Zzz. Talk about the product, get over yourself.
I'm not condoning the shit they pull in this commercial. Im just stating what it is, a fuckin advert. This shit isn't new. That all said, MPC's are known for producing hiphop above all else. So the "geniuses" in the thinktank at Akai or, more realistically, whatever ad firm they got to produce this garbage commercial, got together and said let's get some quasi-hot on the internet producers to bob their heads and shit and act like they're laying down this obnoxious ass beat.
@dbomob ...And voila, that's what we have. Great - we all coulda figured this analysis out for ourselves ten seconds into this shit. I stand by what I said - homey should have commented on the product. I could give a fuck what he thinks about their marketing plan or his lack of fame, placement, whatever.
stupid loser blogger!!!!!!! u dont know shit!!!! get a life!!!! fucking tard!!!! hey look at me!! i talk to a computer all day long!!!! just get a shrink.
Yo...I'm with you on my love for Maschine, but Akai has released another vid. Basically, it looks like they have a second controller!
Pretty much...this appears to be a USB controller. And I love how they flash Time Stretching in the software at 0:19. That's funny to me playboy! There is one other thing I noticed about the controller that made me say..."ooooh nice" Notice the contours on the knobs and buttons- won't snag in your bag like Maschine Knobs! This war is about to be interesting
The frustrated producer whining about what they don't have and why they're not respected instead of giving us the low down on the damn machine. Man, nobody wanna hear the anti-corporate rant! Talk about the device!
Drum machines period are catered to blacks and latinos..it's rhythm, we get it! White folks do their drums on the keyboard. They could care less about having 3, 4, 5 different drum machines.
@prruger Hey I'm white and I approve of quantization! Keyboard or not! Choreographing drums on anything other than a real kit is Really tedious so I like all the help I can get because it's way less expensive than a kit and makes things way less difficult when its mapped on a grid controller y'know. I wouldn't buy a brand new machine though lol.
I think you are a bit off on the price. My guess is the MPC-R will come in around 1k, not $1500. I mean... we'll know for sure in a bit but at it's core it is just a midi controller which is trivial to make and not expensive to make either. The audio interface is a nice to have for those who travel but it is just a USB audio interface, those are relatively inexpensive as well. I really depends on the quality of the audio subprocessor.
IMHO A professional piece of gear doesn't have a "Vintage mode"-button in it, it's either built good and sounds good or nothing. And i'm extremely doubtful the Reneissance can give that real MPC3K/60/even 2KXL punch to the samples. It's not the same thing as just screwing the sound to 12bit, i mean those were some real proper units and build quality NumarkAKAI has yet to achieve.
I still can't post any addressess or links with this youtube comments. However, when you get a chance, check out the email I sent you and I can post links for you to check out. Cheers
I just sent you an email. I would be glad to direct you to documentation etc. for some reason, i get an error if I try to put in my email address or a web address. IDK, but please don't hesitate to ask me any questions. I'm not an AES member but I do AES trade shows every year with SSL. I have plenty of contacts that I can direct you to if you want further information too. Cheers : - )
Sorry, I can't do that. I work with a lot of artist because I work for SSL (Solid State Logic). I would love to have a conversation without being limited by how many characters you type in. again, I'm not trying to offend you or anyone, I just love educating since I've been doing this for over 25 years now.
@1972maynard Thats great that you work for SSL, and congradulate you on that. I'm not offended at all, I can take a converse opinion to mine , and you did well without attacking me, which is fine with me. 25 years, thats great, you must have articles online about you that I can read and study right? Are you in AES?
Further more, the MPC has been around for 24 years, and unless you have worked on them (I have a MPC 3000 and a 2000) there is not other manufacture that will ever come close to replacing the MPC. bottom line is, MPC can't be touched. Software synth's/vertual samplers will never have a unique sonic characteristic becuase the sound comes out your audio interface's DA converters. All MPC's, hardware samplers and hardware keyboards, have their own DA wich will give it it's unique sound.
@1972maynard No , MPC can and has and will continue to be "touched" Why don't you upload some of your work on youtube, and lets see if you know what you talkin about. All audio interfaces have their own unique sound too, so whats so special about a couple of hardware boxes having a unique sound? Other then the "60" . Looks like you contracting yourself. But I'm done wasting time . Just put up some of your work and lets see where you at.
Before I add my 2 cents, no pun intended. As you know all ready, the MPC renaissance has not been released, so there are no specific details to it's feature. On that note, I recommend you research it right before you make any comments (you are contradicting youself). also, regardless of time stretching, let your DAW do that, in any rate, the MPC software supports VST so there are plug-ins for that. furthermore, the MPC will work as VST on any other DAW and will alllow sidechaining from there
@dilliot2k people that dont do time stretching dont get it....hmmm can you actually even make digital music truly without that whole timestretching when needed thing?
well i guess you can.... but the proper answer is NO
@DONNIMETROPOLIS313 I come from a FL background, where time stretching was second nature, it wasn't a big deal , it was there when I needed it and not when I didn't. Time stretching is a basic function, and I'm confused as to why other things that matter less have been implemented before that.
im glad akai comming out with this because like you said it will cheapen up mashine and hopefully force them to make updates because the way i see it is if i can beat a company whos comming out with something new with my old tech......im saving my company money and when i do come out with my next gen its gonna be a competition killer.
@dilliot2k I get the point bro, your insinuating that akai is overly marketing a product that is sub par to the maschine. I still think your salty about wearing hats though.
@dilliot2k I got the whole point bro, you think that akai is overly marketing a product that is sub par to the machine. Why are you upset that akai is aiming towards pleasing a particular demographic. Which happens to be african american kids who wear big watches and baseball hats, step your budget up!
@BLACKRSSN noooo stop stop stop, see I don't believe that akai's product is sub par, if you paid attention to the video, you would realize that I think that native instruments is messing up on a few things with maschine, so before you form an opinion , make sure you watch the whole video. I don't have a issue with base ball hats, or anything like that. I just don't like that akai asumed this is the only way to relate to us. Maybe it's just me, oh well.
@dilliot2k I watched your whole video bro, your contradicting yourself the whole time. If you want a watch or a baseball hat let me know, i can get you one that fits your budget.
@BLACKRSSN No I didn't contradict myself, it doesen't matter if you don't agree with me so many more people do. Don't worry about hats or things, just do me a favor and work on your game and I'll be happy.
@dilliot2kbah humbug, to people that didnt listen, i think you covered the bases. and i was completely unsatisfied with the whole marketing thing. It was overdone. feel you. first thing i thought was ok, more about the new machine and less bopping around like this is a koolade commercial please.....but then again, im an adult.
@DONNIMETROPOLIS313 I agree, I myself when playing live like to get animated, and I think theres a time and place for everything, but like you said, we are alot smarter now, I think it would of been refreshing if they taken another fresh approach.
the point of dem putting a black producer there is because most of there buyers are black so thats who their selling too .... i would do the same .... sorry but u are a jackass ass
@maureeke2010 the problem wasnt that the producer was black, the problem was it looked like some stupid pandering, when any real producer black , white or otherwise wants to hear and see some real shit, its not 1983, we needed to hear some science about the product.
....continued....in ways we shouldn't. Too much digital signal distorts people's perception, damages their sensory receptors. Throw a rave, add pills, some drank & some loud, "dumb'em down" digital music on 80db from the D.J., & you got a wack job of a kid 3 years later, out merk'n people. ;-( Its federally mandatory our T.V. and soon radio's must have digital signals...now our music making machines? Awe man, what's next. Akai, stay analog please! or at least provide us with a switch to choose!
@vellrob I do agree, and I have heard the different between an analog console and a digital one, digital tracks of protools and the warm of analog tape. Unfortunately those wonderful analog pieces are out of my reach currently. and I can't let that be an exuse as to why I don't make music.
@dilliot2k That's real talk. Try ebay though for vintage analog half inch and 16 inch reels and what not. Might luck up and get a deal or two. Also amazon. All you need is a converter anymore from digital to analog to get that warm feel. 2 much digital sounds fatigue my ears man, makes me feel all wired up. Its 2 perfect in sound & the human psyche works out cause & effect constantly, so the ears & the mind need to hear flaws sometimes. I don't feel normal w/too much digital signal.
p.s. you wonder why so many kids is the psychiatric wards these days. Maaan we need more warm, realistic sounds...all hail the great MPC series. Who needs digital everything. C'mon man we need realistic sounds, what do humans hear in digital or analog? I should say, what do our brain waves register as? I mean we can hear both signals, but by design, what were our ears intended to digest? Ever study the "law of frequency" its dangerous to mess with nature and the Big Designer of man in.....
Man Youtube sucks, you'd think they'd let us post URL's by now. Anyway, this is the answer back to maschine from Akai, its light, "aluminum", brushed aluminum casing, as it should be, Akai pads, which we all know and love, and slimmer than maschine, fits inside a laptop bag. Man it pays to be loyal, there's not alot of that going on in this age. Loyalty is rare in anything, anymore. But the original hip hop beat makers did it again! Interface and daw wise....mnnn, we'll see, we shall see.
@vellrob Well I'll tell you this, the one of the reasons I bought maschine was because the pads felt extremely similar to me to the MPC, that solid yet soft feeling wihout the feeling of a button pushed down. It made the controller feel not cheap. How ever at the time, akai wasen't a computer based system, and I came up from cake walk and hammer head, didn't have access to mpc's when I was a kid, but I did have a access to a computer.
@dilliot2k I can dig that. I came up with an Alesis R16 and Boss Dr. Rhythm, & I made tight cuts from those, just now get'n into production full time, so still like a baby fresh out the womb on the knowledge & reading. I just got basic fundamentals & an ear, because I been a artist for almost 3 decades. Been held back. People get insecure when you flow better than them in my hood and when you have no knowledge of production, you're done before ya start. So now its producer time.
My brotha I couldn't wait to throw this on ya page. First of all much respect me comin' up in ya house and all, but man I'm tell'n you, Akai's R&D dolla's ain't to be messed wit! ALl yall maschine users, come back home!!! I got the inside scoup on Akai products for 2012 and this was just made public! w w w . akaiprompc . com / mpcstudio . php
@vellrob dude you straight up wrote a book on here, which shows great passion and I applaud you for voicing you point, without a personal attack on me, so many on here fail to do that. so I give you great props for that.
@dilliot2k Oh yeah my dude. I'm an artist, I'm not worthy to attack nobody. ;-) I'm still learning. Til the day I die I always will, that's why I love this field, you can never learn enough...what an exciting career, we'll always be learning. We'll leave a nice mark in the history books. But I appreciate your passion just the same, the knowledge gives you something to wake up and look forward to. Most people hate their jobs. Not us. I gotta give maschine its props though. When I....
@dilliot2k ....when I got rid of maschine, I saved those sound files though. I hope Akai and N.I. will do a collaboration and come with something dope as far as sound libraries and sound modules. They're both phat companies. Last novel I promise, but I agree about the passion for this stuff, and its because...but real hip hop, or music in general, should bring people together, not separate them. Peace.
@vkush412 Dude, did you spend all your time hating on other peoples videos ? I don't have time for little kid shit, dude grow a channel and get some subs and some fans before you try to talk shit to me.
The production box industry is so oversaturated. And the subtext of those ads are sickening. "Get Maschine and get in the game like No I.D!", "Wanna big as big as Araabmusic? Get Renaissance!". Yet you KNOW they're always going to find suckers to storm the music stores.
All the while, the real hitmakers couldn't care less about what they use. (Fav fun fact: Dr. Luke cuts and pastes drum samples straight into Pro Tools, and doesn't use MIDI at all!)
@dilliot2k MPCs don't use binary code, so ones and zeros won't apply (I'm sure you know this already, but I'm just pointing it out)... also there's actually an analog circuitry and RIAA curve implemented in that bitch, so it does have a sound...
You know that the mpc 60 for example has 12-bit sampling. This affects the overall sound too (sample rate won't matter much audibly in this case -Nyquist Theory).
But like you said, you can get close to the sound if you know what you're doing.
@experiment0003 any digital device uses a transistors which basics functions include on or off, there fore the mpc being a digital device, falls under this same law. where in writting other when what you say, is it written that there is a RIAA curve implemented in it?
@dilliot2k it is digital in the sense that it is a digital sampler, hence when you turn it on, it's basically a software in the box for all the slicing and sequencing and beatmaking... but if you ever opened one up, you'll see the hardware circuitry inside. There are pcbs with fuses, transistors, rectifier e.t.c. That's what affects the sound.
A part of what was cool about the sounds of older gears was eq curves... RIAA was standard, but there was also CCIR and a lot more. Use ears.
@experiment0003 in the signal chain of any hardware mpc, it comes from a digital source after that its all analog from there, but thats no different then it being analog when it leaves an audio interface. your talking about the RIAA curve right, thats a standard for vinyl and turn table preamps and cartiges right?
@dilliot2k ...it just so happens that Akai MPC signal chains, especially the earlier models, are not so clean... the fact that for the most part, it's an all analog signal path can be attributed to the sound... or maybe the bit depth of the MPC 60... or the eQ curve (no matter how subtle), and whether you hear it or not.
...even audio cables affect sounds.
Have you ever ran a sample through an MPC and checked b4 and after with a frequency analyzer? Use eyes.
Those that are good with maschine and proficient, I envy because I'm open to a new way. Now open labs is that sh@#!, they got it, now if they could just collaborate with Akai and make it light, compact, and more modern looking, we'd have the ultimate in beat creation. We can chat, blog all we want, we all know money can't be made giving consumers all of what they want...there's no money in that. Gotta piece it out, product launch it out every year, that's how corporate giants are built.
No! I refuse to believe it! ;-) I'm an adamant Akai user, I'm hooked. ;-) Nah, seriously I think it will be a latency that's lower, because the ren will be a standalone system that I can dump my mixes in its proprietory software DAW, with the maschine, best bet for me is to use it as a plug-in. My issues came with my laptop which is very modern & the maschine's DAW...and the controller, & my hard drive. Its like so many freakin variables I hated it. Akai will be stand alone, & software capable.
Oh and to the guy who said it's hard to make a beat on the MPC or Maschine with 2 hands. If you can't use the MPC or Maschine with two hands. Put it on eBay and get to usin your mouse.
I like this guy. ha I agree with alot that your saying. If they don't come out with something crazy that sweeps people off there feet like something no ones seen with a controller that just changes the production game, people arent gonna want to buy it as much as the Maschine simply because the price is going to be sky high and the Maschine will be priced lower. Unless I got money to blow, Akai better have something mind blowing in that joint for me to buy it.
@NarCityEnt lol, if it offeres what I've been askin native instruments to include in maschine, I may, but my gear head'ism has limits, like my pocket!!
@dilliot2k The only thing I'm worried about with Akai Renaissance is the DAW, we will have to see won't we. I don't care if its not as intricate as maschine, as long as its simple to learn and understand like the Akai drum machines of old, then I know they'll release updates in the future which I can wait for. But did you see that thing, you can drop it and it won't break, unlike mashine. I dented my maschine day one. I was so disappointed. If you break it, its over! Not Akai baby.
@dilliot2k Plus man, Akai built it like we really wanted maschine to be. Maschine was just a poor set up to me, the learning curve was hell! Akai helped shape the drum machine industry, so we know what to expect when we get any piece of gear for drum patterns. Even the MV by Rowland is comparable to Akai. But maschine...man it was hell for me. No wonder so many of them are for sale on ebay for cheap, I sold mine for da#!# near cost on ebay in less than a week! ;-)
@dilliot2k Man I'm rockin Akai to the grave. Not so religiously I won't stay open minded, but maaaan when I first bought maschine, I didn't know my PC had to be a certain this and that, and latency had so many variables, etc, etc. I"m a M.C. first and foremost, so it was an awakening to say the least. Akai is built to last, and its stand alone if I'm not mistaken, can also be used as a plug in, and whatever I can't do with it, I'm sure there's software out there I can use.
This fucken guy! If there were no black people in the video you would complain about that for sure. You would probably ASSume at that point that blacks are 95% of Akai's customer base and should be represented in the ad. You're not conscious, smart, informed, or profound. You sound like some body's wife.

So if I want to use 2 different instruments in Kontakt, in Maschine I have to make 2 instances of Kontakt.
fridaygc 1 month ago
@fridaygc
I gotcha, so you cant even load an extra instrument and route it to a new track ? For instance the waldorf PPG vst is 16 MT also, but you have to load a new audio track and route output 1 output 2 etc...

If you think you dont need it, you dont need it. Dont upgrade until you need it.

Good video. This is very well thought out and I do agree with a lot of this. Granted I do not own Maschine nor do I have a desire to buy Maschine or the Renaissance but I think Akai is way late on this. This is what the MPD16 should have been in 2004.

@prruger Hey I'm white and I approve of quantization! Keyboard or not! Choreographing drums on anything other than a real kit is Really tedious so I like all the help I can get because it's way less expensive than a kit and makes things way less difficult when its mapped on a grid controller y'know.

1972maynard 1 month ago
@1972maynard No , MPC can and has and will continue to be "touched" Why don't you upload some of your work on youtube, and lets see if you know what you talkin about. All audio interfaces have their own unique sound too, so whats so special about a couple of hardware boxes having a unique sound? Other then the "60" . Looks like you contracting yourself. But I'm done wasting time . Just put up some of your work and lets see where you at.
dilliot2k 1 month ago
Before I add my 2 cents, no pun intended. As you know all ready, the MPC renaissance has not been released, so there are no specific details to it's feature. On that note, I recommend you research it right before you make any comments (you are contradicting youself). also, regardless of time stretching, let your DAW do that, in any rate, the MPC software supports VST so there are plug-ins for that. furthermore, the MPC will work as VST on any other DAW and will alllow sidechaining from there
1972maynard 1 month ago

DONNIMETROPOLIS313 1 month ago
@DONNIMETROPOLIS313 I come from a FL background, where time stretching was second nature, it wasn't a big deal , it was there when I needed it and not when I didn't. Time stretching is a basic function, and I'm confused as to why other things that matter less have been implemented before that.

....continued....in ways we shouldn't. Akai, stay analog please! or at least provide us with a switch to choose!
vellrob 1 month ago
@vellrob I do agree, and I have heard the different between an analog console and a digital one, digital tracks of protools and the warm of analog tape. Unfortunately those wonderful analog pieces are out of my reach currently. and I can't let that be an exuse as to why I don't make music.
dilliot2k 1 month ago
@dilliot2k That's real talk. Try ebay though for vintage analog half inch and 16 inch reels and what not. Might luck up and get a deal or two. Also amazon. All you need is a converter anymore from digital to analog to get that warm feel. 2 much digital sounds fatigue my ears man, makes me feel all wired up. Its 2 perfect in sound & the human psyche works out cause & effect constantly, so the ears & the mind need to hear flaws sometimes. I don't feel normal w/too much digital signal.
vellrob 1 month ago
p.s. you wonder why so many kids is the psychiatric wards these days. Ever study the "law of frequency" its dangerous to mess with nature and the Big Designer of man in.....
vellrob 1 month ago
Man Youtube sucks, you'd think they'd let us post URL's by now. Anyway, this is the answer back to maschine from Akai, its light, "aluminum", brushed aluminum casing, as it should be, Akai pads, which we all know and love, and slimmer than maschine, fits inside a laptop bag. Man it pays to be loyal, there's not alot of that going on in this age. Loyalty is rare in anything, anymore. But the original hip hop beat makers did it again! Interface and daw wise....mnnn, we'll see, we shall see.
vellrob 1 month ago
@vellrob Well I'll tell you this, the one of the reasons I bought maschine was because the pads felt extremely similar to me to the MPC, that solid yet soft feeling wihout the feeling of a button pushed down. It made the controller feel not cheap. How ever at the time, akai wasen't a computer based system, and I came up from cake walk and hammer head, didn't have access to mpc's when I was a kid, but I did have a access to a computer.
dilliot2k 1 month ago
@dilliot2k I can dig that. I came up with an Alesis R16 and Boss Dr. Rhythm, & I made tight cuts from those, just now get'n into production full time, so still like a baby fresh out the womb on the knowledge & reading. I just got basic fundamentals & an ear, because I been a artist for almost 3 decades. Been held back. @beataroundthekush Tell me about this mythical sound, sounds like 44.1 to me..
dilliot2k 1 month ago
@dilliot2k MPCs don't use binary code, so ones and zeros won't apply (I'm sure you know this already, but I'm just pointing it out)... also there's actually an analog circuitry and RIAA curve implemented in that bitch, so it does have a sound...
You know that the mpc 60 for example has 12-bit sampling. This affects the overall sound too (sample rate won't matter much audibly in this case -Nyquist Theory).
But like you said, you can get close to the sound if you know what you're doing.
experiment0003 1 month ago
@experiment0003 any digital device uses a transistors which basics functions include on or off, there fore the mpc being a digital device, falls under this same law. where in writting other when what you say, is it written that there is a RIAA curve implemented in it?
dilliot2k 1 month ago
@dilliot2k it is digital in the sense that it is a digital sampler, hence when you turn it on, it's basically a software in the box for all the slicing and sequencing and beatmaking... but if you ever opened one up, you'll see the hardware circuitry inside. There are pcbs with fuses, transistors, rectifier e.t.c. That's what affects the sound.
A part of what was cool about the sounds of older gears was eq curves... RIAA was standard, but there was also CCIR and a lot more. Use ears.
experiment0003 1 month ago
@experiment0003 in the signal chain of any hardware mpc, it comes from a digital source after that its all analog from there, but thats no different then it being analog when it leaves an audio interface. your talking about the RIAA curve right, thats a standard for vinyl and turn table preamps and cartiges right?
dilliot2k 1 month ago
@dilliot2k ...it just so happens that Akai MPC signal chains, especially the earlier models, are not so clean... the fact that for the most part, it's an all analog signal path can be attributed to the sound... or maybe the bit depth of the MPC 60... or the eQ curve (no matter how subtle), and whether you hear it or not.
...even audio cables affect sounds.
Have you ever ran a sample through an MPC and checked b4 and after with a frequency analyzer? Use eyes.
experiment0003 1 month ago
Those that are good with maschine and proficient, I envy because I'm open to a new way. Now open labs is that sh@#!, they got it, now if they could just collaborate with Akai and make it light, compact, and more modern looking, we'd have the ultimate in beat creation. We can chat, blog all we want, we all know money can't be made giving consumers all of what they want...there's no money in that. Gotta piece it out, product launch it out every year, that's how corporate giants are built.

Dillio you are going to get it. You are a gear head... and you will complain about it just like you do maschine lmao

@vellrob The same latency issues you deal with maschine will be the same ones you deal with the akai ren, because its computer based.
