  • does anyone know who owns the rights to this song?

  • @wenandcasbra I would hazard a guess Vanda and Young as they wrote it and I'm pretty sure they have kept the rights to all their songs.

  • nice hair-do, does it come in 'mens'.?

  • Melbourne City in Video.

    J.P.Y. Hot Hit.

  • Australia is simply a transplanted form of Great Britain. In Australia, they still bow to the queen, believe it or not. They're stuck in some time warp from a long time ago.

  • @bracken1000 Dude John Paul aint exactly one of Australias finest. I'll name you 20 great aussie bands from the past 4 decades if u need evidence. Heres a start youtube.com/watch?v=OvL_OS435RU&list=LLWbPL4-NFTGlxQPHPh6DgBA&index=19&feature=plpp_video have a good time.

  • @bracken1000 you truly are a misguided cockhead !!!!!!!!!

  • Australia was settled by trash from Great Britain. Nuff said.

  • @bracken1000 actually, my family immigrated from scottland in the 19th century. the only thing trash is comments like yours.........populations grow, people spread out, just like we have for thousands of years. after all, we are all african. so all that crap your spreading is just typical hate...get over it, no one likes you anyway...........

  • @needaman66 People who make comments like that believe what others tell them and don't think for themselves. It's reflective of their level of intelligence, which is next to none.

  • i saw him quiet a few times at the Waratah Mayfield RSL , were great nights in the late 80's early 90's

  • watched him at waratah mayfield RSL quiet a few years ago

was for free and felt so bad because he was better than that

well he did that became a dj in newy

    great singer

  • Why did they call him "Squeak" :o

  • Thanks one of my fav songs.

  • The good old 70's..........

  • Melbourne used to have yellow traffic lights......

  • @aaronstately Yes, it is no surprise to me the decay of Australia is commensurate to the dwindling number of yellow traffic lights compared to the new and politically correct red and green ones. The race who installed those traffic lights have been ordered to watch them be destroyed by the invading 'multi-coloured' hordes.

(BTW I'm not having a shot at you, just at other people who were making stupid racist comments here).

  • @pmam1968, you’re obviously a Brown/Gillard supporter and shill for diversity which equates to wiping out the Whites that built this nation. Yet you have the chutzpah to point the finger at others and call them racist. Stupid hypocrite.

  • @thethrowaway1000 Mate, you could troll for Australia, you are that good.

  • Looks like it has the wobbly boot on, lay off the juice dude.

  • Ahhhhh another Vander and Young song.....

  • every ones happy, no stupid money revenue laws, cameras, over capitalization and the other filth

  • Comment removed

  • @arado240dd fuck off you racist

  • That's a bad hairdo

  • @leanneqld in 35years time they'll be saying the same thing about our hairstyles now :)

  • I was 10 when that came out!! fantstic song.

  • @leanneqld don't be picking on squeak, he did the best he could Gotta love him

  • @leanneqld A bad hair-do?....

o.o, Thats a very natural smexy hairstyle. ;D

  • Look at this amazing footage of Melbourne in the mid-70's...it's all White, all Australian, and alright! That was really the case ever since, until less than ten years ago! On this solemn day we've got to remember our nation's past heroes...and strive to make sure that we don't become yesterday's heroes!

  • @SKOTP69 and where are natives aborigines? They were perfectly alright too in the past until the white men came to annoy them. Respect please!

  • @gemmasasha How many cities the Aborigines built? Answer...NONE! You don't have to say "natives aborigines" either when referring to the same people. In terms of nativism though, that's us, the Australians who founded a civilised sovereign nation and built some of the world's best cities... and the Aborigines (who liberals always raise as their only imagined "ace up the sleeve" in this issue!) do NOT rate as any kind of "reason" why we should lose our cities, our society, and our lives now!

  • @gemmasasha The Aborigines were NOT "perfectly alright" either in the past until the White (specifically British) man came here. They were (are?) a primitive people who never progressed beyond the early stone age. Their societies were rife with violence, abuse, rape and cruelty. They through their ignorance burnd most of the continent into a desert, and through either such destruction or over-hunting made extinct an enormous amount of wildlife. They're got their right to live here...

  • @gemmasasha ...with respect, for sure, but they are NO "excuse" as to why Australians should lose their society under a flood of foreign races now! The issue is about this great city, Melbourne, which is being destroyed now owing to the massive numbers of alien races, foreign nationalities, and clashing cultures that are being ruthlessly imported. They're NOT coming here to live like and Aborigine, and they have NO respect for them either! They want to take advantage of our civilised society!

  • @gemmasasha We owe them NOTHING! To our forefathers who made this great city and nation, to ourselves who cherish it, and to those who will come after us - and who face a seriously threatened future indeed if something is not done to stop all this - we owe EVERYTHING!!!

  • @SKOTP69, just over 3 weeks back I watched this very clip and marveled at the Whiteness on the streets of Melbourne. Your post was poignant. It is no surprise to me the decay of Australia is commensurate to the dwindling Anglo Saxon culture, now atomised by 'Political Correctness', ‘diversity’ and ‘multiculturalism’. The race that built this nation has been ordered to watch it be destroyed the invading third world cultures.

  • @thethrowaway1000 Thank you so much! It's great and heartwarming to see someone else realise this too....and also so terribly tragic that it is even happening to have to be noticed and spoken against!

  • @thethrowaway1000 They used to say the same thing when the Italians and Greeks came to Australia in the 50's and 60's - HOWEVER - We broke our backs and did what we promised we would do when we came here.

So do I agree with you? Yes and No - Let immigrants come - But let them come legally and with the promise to work and help the economy and contribute, as did we when we came out here

I mean seriously, Melbourne wouldn't be the same without the old-school wogs would it? :)

  • @tryandlisten, you raise a sound point and one that underscores the value in EUROPEAN immigration ONLY!

What we have now, courtesy of ‘diversity’, a tinder keg of tribalism and lacking integration, which is already expressing itself in increased crime, terrorist activity and racial attacks on White Australians.

Further, Victorian infrastructure is bursting at the seams with some 1400 immigrants pouring in per week. Hospitals, water, housing, roads, power are all on critical precipices.

  • @thethrowaway1000 I still have to challenge you (a little) on your point - To generalise on European vs Middle East/African immigration can be a little unfair. I lived in Richmond for 4years, you dont think I was cursing all the smack that was polluting the streets thanks to a certain element, a lot of which was Vietnamese? Yet when I went to work and worked alongside some good mates who were also Vietnamese, what conclusion can you draw? What is at fault here, race or govt policies?

  • @tryandlisten, Race is the issue here. Tribalism will always rise above every Neo-Marxist policy designed to curb the natural movements of the genetic gyroscope. Try as Tito did, and the end result is a Balkanization – evident in Australia with ethnic-enclaves lacking integration. When racial attacks occur it is often between non-whites and yet Whites are berated for ‘not doing enough for social inclusiveness’ i.e. the recent Vietnamese/Sudanese/Lebanese attacks on Indians in Melbourne.

  • @thethrowaway1000 Ok fair points - I personally believe the wogs that came out had hat in hand, thanked Australia for the opportunity and promised to pay back the favour which they did ten-fold - I wonder if modern-day 'refugees' are worthy of the same praise or are they just taking the piss.

  • @tryandlisten, there’s an air of entitlement in many of today’s immigrants, evidenced quite openly in the detention centre riots and demands for settlement. Given they’ve $helled out 20k USD to smugglers for illegal entry, they want what’s been promised honoured. Couple this with most being young men (often from Afghanistan) who have fled and abandoned their wives and children and civic responsibilities. Irony is our best and bravest are dying over there doing the job they refuse to do.

  • @thethrowaway1000 Oh, please, wasn't Australia founded by illegal invasions of white people from Great Britain? Talk about entitlement! Most of them were crooks and murderers.

  • @thethrowaway1000 Maybe you're third world yourself. You sound like it.

  • @bracken1000, you definitely don’t just sound like a moron, you are a moron! You can’t accept the brutal truth that the Whites built Australia, and this very film clip shows a typical Melbourne of the 1970’s before all the multicultural trash infiltrated and trashed the urban environment/culture. If you have something constructive to add then do so, but your shilling for neo-marxist diversity is already a proven nation wrecker. Just look at the UK and what a mess unmitigated immigration causes.

  • @thethrowaway1000 Enoch Powell was right

  • @SKOTP69 Couldnt agree more if we go to the U.A.E or Saudi Arabia etc we have to follow theyre laws and way of life so when they come here they can follow the Aussie way

  • funny how he lost all his money and went broke

  • This was a hit on Radio RAAF Butterworth.

  • Ha ha ha, looking back that food court was pretty dodgy, but it got plenty of my money! Pity the area has been replaced by the worlds ugliest building - Federation Square. The old Gas and Fuel buildings look better than this.

  • FUCKIN AWESOME.

  • Same links can be drawn through so many great acts of the 1970's JPY, Easybeats, ACDC, Flash and the Pan, let alone the preformers who covered their stuff - Suzi Quatro, Rod Stewart, INXS and Meat Loaf. A couple of the greatest songwriters of all time

  • The fellas from the Easybeats wrote this towards the end of their band's career before they went onto producing other acts like JPY

  • Wow how things have changed, back then 90 percent of the music we listened to was Australian, now your lucky to hear 10 percent.

  • I first heard this song in '85, when I was 13. It made me cry. It's another song, like Del Shannon's Runaway, happy tune but sad story. Very special song to me :)

  • hey i had a micky mouse T-shirt in 1971

  • @64g15csr Hey, I used to print them, thanks for buying it.

  • @webaroos ha ha ha.... look out mate, the disney police will be after you now !!!

  • @64g15csr Not that game mate, they were done under licence, then Abba came and that was a boomer, licence again.

  • Doesn't mater, how many years without listening to this song, it is one embeded,

    within.

  • this song could allmost be about Johnny O'Keefe

  • I remember climbing under the Bridge at St Kilda Road, grabbing Pigons to Breed and Race them when i was young and i like the Old Ford 1974 Fairlane, it was 100% same as my one. the good old days, Cheers ;) So many good songs came out the Late 70's and 80's especialy the euro disco stuff, which at the time you would have to go to Central Station in the City Square in Melbourne, not anymore it's the Net & Utube, thank god there are smart people that come up with IDEAS like that.

  • @7071t6

How cool was Central Station! I used to save up for weeks to buy a 12inch imported single. I miss those days.

  • @Outlaw53 I know, how about the Leather SEATINg and the FOOD court inside etc.

  • GO, ROBBIE WEEKES!!! (ORIGINAL COUNTDOWN PRODUCER) ~ APPEARS AT THE "BRIDGE" ESCORTING OLE "SQUEAK" THRU CORRIDOR!! ~ TERRIFIC CAMEO, TOP BLOKE xox

  • @TRISHBOMBER The only bridge in the clip is St Kilda Road over the Yarra, is that where you're talking about?

  • LOL he looks better as an older man hahaha

  • i hate the music :>P

  • I think This Video photo in 1965 or 1964 Cars seems to be 1950's Style 1970's more advanced than this other wise charl stone and some classical model ended by middle 1970's

  • Ah Squeak, loved you then, loved you now. And this song is still my favourite.

  • Whats that on his head ?

  • I always thought this guy moon lighted on general Hospital as Randy the cab driver...Wasnt that him? I know this guy played some mean tennis games with The Van Patten Boys.

  • i came up with a theory that involves the book of genesis (fig leaves) buddha (sitting under the bodhi fig tree) jesus (many sayings about figs) ross horne's book (new health revolution) and science (figs are the most important source of food for fruit eating rainforest animals). i then experimented on the figs by eating mainly dried figs (same brand) for over 6 years now and found cycles which i related to the numbers in psgs 11/12 of the book of revelations. this theory has gone everywhere.

  • hallelujah!

  • Loved this song. Saw JPY in concert back in the '70's at the Eaglehawk Town Hall. He was fabulous back then. Hated his "Love is in the Air" though. Glad to hear that he's been inducted into the ARIA HOF - he deserves it. He always seemed to be more in love with fishing than with singing & being a pop star. I heard that Molly had to talk him into it. I had the album that you displayed too.....of course.

  • Molly used to call him "squeak"….wonder why?

  • this song really make me want to do something..... tomorrow.... so good

  • It is SO amazing watching videos like this, and sad now...look at everyone on the streets of Melbourne...ALL Australians!!! Let's not let ourselves be indeed made "yesterday's heroes"!!!

  • It is SO amazing watching videos like this...look at everyone on the streets of Melbourne...ALL Australians!!!!

  • Was that A TAA plane landing?

  • que buena musica bailable

  • great song i dont know why but i love it...

  • If he's not Yesterdays Hero, he shops at the Salvos. Nice shirt!!

  • who sung this song first john paul young or Bay City Rollers?!

  • @scarefaceR18 .. I know I'm responding months later ... this song was written by Vanda & Young for John Paul Young originally. Bay City Rollers done a cover version later :)

  • Canada has a piece of your heart. You can not only sing but you showed me , you are a strong person in respect with fellow singers in Australia. John Cave was a large part of my life and I need to thank you once again for being you and attending his funeral. It has been a few months, but reminding you , I still haven't forgotten and that is why I am posting this. Thanks 484.

  • wow how corny was this, molly must have had something to do with it

  • JPY a survivor...

  • just seen this for the first time in 30 yrs.....the first concert i was allowed to go to was JPY .13yrs old and in love with my pop star (backed up by Rockwell(enough) T James)

  • us blokes thought this stuff a bit "daggy' ....but listining now -you can plainly hear excellent pop music - nothin more or less.

  • He looks like Julian Assange...

  • ac/dc shoulda done a CV of this with Bon Scott and that would have surly have been the definte verson

BCR done the best verson of this they cut some some really decent pop/rock tracks a lot of people forget that nowdays

  • think Robbie Williams should cover this

  • yea i saw bcrs in salt lake city in 1975 seems like yesterday

  • This guy was betting on being able to pull the wool over the eyes of future generations but we know the we know he was nobody's hero. He was telling Ted Murly, just wait, people are going to look back at this and say that man embodied the 70's rock mentality. How do you convince your video director to catch your ugly look from 3 different angles in 1 shot and not emote in any of them. Why does his POV just plow through people. They're looking at you because you're being an asshole.

  • I had John's picture on my wall!!! I cut his poster out from our local newspaper in South Africa. Loved him and still do! Remember the day's when we could get prints from the newspaper and iron them on our T-shirts? What was that American TV show? It escapes me now - cheap vino will do that to ya. Um, Peter Strauss was a big player in the late show soap! Anyone remember?

  • @jodisass Rich Man Poor Man?

  • @ACGalley Thanks a mil!! You're a gem for reminding me.

  • There is a connection between JPY & AC/DC...Harry Vanda & George Young.

  • Classic Song, Classic Melbourne! Notice one thing that glaringly stands out in comparison to what is being done to Melbourne/Australia now?

We've got to make the effort to ensure that WE don't become yesterday's heroes!!!

  • gotta be one of the corniest music clips I've seen

  • It's a shame JPY's expression is so deadpan

  • There used to be a segment on the rugby league footy show called "Yesterday's heroes", really good segment it was

  • I'm back again, checking him out! He's gorgeous!

  • Damn! Those chicks were ugly in the 70's!

  • He's gorgeous! Best with his hair ruffled

  • this song will always be the story of my own life. LOL

  • Freat song and love the hair doo.

  • Wanted to thank you personally for attending John Caves funeral . I was so happy to hear this, Thanks for your respect from you and the music industry. Tomorrow would have been his birthday in Australia, Nov.19/2010. He is spending it now in heaven.xo tequila 484

  • He's 100% more talent compared to what Justin Bieber has in his pinkie finger. Long Live John Paul Young! and you still look bloody gorgeous!

  • classic then and classic now...JPY Rocks

  • now that's a head wobbler if I ever saw one ... some great shots of 70's Melbourne ... quite a prophetic title really ...

  • good

  • AMAZING SONG!!!!

  • I´m born 1968 and I heard this song with John Paul Young the first time in the middle of the seventis and its still have a strong place in my heart. I have it on LP with BCR and EP with JPY and in a home made CD in my car with JPY. Just love it..

  • Oh Squeak...how I loved this song back in '75

  • wot a blast i was 11 when this came out cool as

  • OMG this is just horrible. Unlistenable! The Rollers version is countless times better than this.

  • @greenblue1979 - The BCRs really are yesterday's heroes. JPY is still performing today.

  • still love jpy since i was about 10 .iam now 45.just wish he would do another tour. i would go and see him again.he is still HOT.

  • I was a teenager in the 70's .. ahh the memories of country aussie girls, disco and great music.

  • yes the music of today you can relate to but remember this is were it all begins

  • JPY lives down the road from our place and marcia hines lives on the other side of the lake

And to top that Lindy Chamberlain "dingo ate my baby" lady also lived down the road

  • I was eight years old, this song captured my heart. I remember feeling guilty for liking such strong loud music, coming from a conservative South African community:-) But oh boy, 34 years later and this song still rocks!!!! Go jPY!!!

  • I was 8 years old, and this strong loud music captured my heart!!! I remember feeling guilty for liking this pop or rock, coming from a conservative white South -Africa, but boy, this tune stayed in my head now for 34 years and I rock harder now when I hear it;-)) Go JPY!!!

  • Check out on You Tube new boy band EastWest Boys version released last fall by Sony Music Japan!

    Intro by BCR's Les McKeown.

Dance moves choreographered by Lady Gaga's choreographer by Richard Jackson. Pretty cool!!

  • no one could do a cover of this song like JOHN PAUL YOUNG he might be a bit older now but he is still f@#$%^N hot but i am older too lol I LOVE HIM from the countdown days

  • Hot As Album Cover - Love You Squeak

  • Well BCR really did this justice, the song made more of a statement, lower key this is. I like it though!

  • prophetic.

  • Does BCR really coverd this song?? Kirre!

  • They did and in my most unbiased statement, they do a little more justice to the song..

    That wasn't easy to type!

  • @nzoz1975 agreed BCR did some really good covers

  • yeah, they did have their moments. however, i think one should listen to Bilbo's version of 'Saturday Night' - the version that was recorded before BCR's hit recorded version. It's much rockier!

  • @nzoz1975 Bilbo Baggins never recorded the same "Saturday Night" as the Rollers. They did, however, record another song also entitled "Saturday Night" which was also recorded by The Rubettes.

  • @haj1909 really? i thought it was the same song... silly me. I'll have another listen.

  • @livebabylive15 haha ur basically saying bcr have no talent and have to rip ppls songs off ;)

  • @SambaAnroechte gotta be one of the corniest music clips I've seen

  • @mollybella1000 : would that be an opinion based on your musical expertise that spans ..what 18years since your inception to this world...remember it's the 70's we're talking about.

  • He was pretty ugly. But he did some good songs.

  • he was cute "back then"

  • how old is he in this clip, always wondered who he was talking about,he was the man when he done this

  • he sounds better now than he did before

  • In my opinion. . .

It was long over due too!!!

    Congrats, JPY

  • JPY was just inducted into the ARIA hall of fame, good onya John!

  • Cool song. I discovered it while tooling around youtube and ran across the Easybeats, did a wiki on them and saw this song on the page, back to youtube and now I have another cool song to listen too, Thanks Mate!

  • Kenn ich von bay city rollers

  • Yea, Bay City Rollers did a cover of this.

  • Some great shots of Melbourne, Australia.

  • I supply music to some retail chains... I copied this song and made it part of the play list.. Even though not legal, I find it quite amazing how some of the older or rather 40 + y/o's respond when hearing it again after years..

    Amazing song..
