@andruha11234 its england. we fall to pieces when we get 5cm of snow or more . Football matches are cancelled , schools shut and people go berzerk. We are stupid when it comes to weather lol
@ilovemoviesuk lol... i remember few years back when I was in high school, we had 3 feet of snow (pretty much overnight) and we still had school. This is in chicago, btw.
I am a bus driver in Scotland and we have to deal with snow a lot in winter. Buses have 4 wheels at the back what helps a lot in the snow Dennis darts know are the worse know as the gear box is shit. I am from London and been up here for 12 years it makes me laugh when TFl pulls all the buses off the road for a cm of snow good going
This why we fail in this country, what about a bit of grit on that road, Thumbs up for the driver and thums down for the idiots who did not give him a push.
It's an MAN Enviro 300. I drove them in Liverpool. They have a more distinctive whine to the Alexander Dennis Enviro 300s. Not too sure if both have same engines and gearboxes. I drove a Dennis Trident double decker in ice and that was an experience!
My understanding is that on ice (it doesn't work on mud), the wheel-spin helps. The friction warms the tyres and they then melt through the ice and grip the road. Naturally, ice doesn't provide much friction—hence the battle for heat and grip.
im a driver in edinburgh....i dno if id agree they are good in bad weather. rear wheel drive, engine BEHIND rear wheels. and of course it also depends where your fattest punters are sitting.. only weight on front end is the 20+++ stone driver. not exactly sports car design lol
that driver was very lucky to get moving again. hope you sent that video to his bosses lol
wat an exelent peice of driving. if u think about it if he left it there it wouldnt be just a 12 mile walk bk to chesterfeild but th ebus would be blocking the road so all the best to him and exelent driving skills
i am a uk stagecoach bus driver myself now been for 2 months and i must say that is very good driving up that hill. but try driving an optare up where i live with the mega steep hills were is cover in ice god its torcher but a coach would go up it like nothing dam light buses
Im a bus driver in North Wales. Busses are generally good in bad weather, the long wheelbase makes sideways motions (drifting if youre a boy racer) easier to controll than in a car, but the weight of the vehilcle makes it very difficult to stop, and even hadred to get going again. Im not suprised the driver in that video found himself across the road, but I'm seriously impressed that he got going after stoping halfay up.
As you knew the weight are in the back in the bus with the engine, and the bus pull on the back wheels, where the weight are. But many cars today had front pull wheels, where the engine are. So this is good, than car with wheels who pull from the back !
That hill is a bitch, I live 2 minutes walk from there, it usually claims its victims on the top bend though coming down, the number of times the railings have been knocked down with cars down the embankment, anyone remember the cop car going through? Shame mobiles with cameras wasn't about then!
fair play to the bus driver for persistance and getting that enviro 300 bus up the hill in those conditions most bus drivers would give up in that i think he has my respect
@qwandiddy the AN68 atlanteans were the best bus for the snow and hills, with the semi auto gearbox. pity there can't be a low floor version of it, as it was the best busof the 70's and 80's
yeh top stuff! them MANs are unwieldy bastards! back when we had the heavy snow in manchester i had what was probably the worlds slowest crash in one at the airport, doing literally 0.5mph and couldnt stop it because of the sheet ice i was driving on and the stupid well over-keen abs. slid straight off a roundabout and into a bush lol
show the skill of the drivers and show that thay have to tackel any thing thats y thay have to go 4 more training when thay haave passed the first stage
i noticed at the end of the video that the ford focus cant get up the hill whereas the bus did a better job shows how good car drivers are in this weather! rubbish!
its the same with the long wheelbase 56 plate dennis's that first buses use here in wiltshire when they were on the snow and ice they just went sideways all the time when they start spinning and slipping but yeah i must congratulate the bus driver here on his amazing driving skills to get the bus up this hill better then the pathetic car drivers
You mean the 55 plate Volvo's with computer controlled brakes? Must be seeing as they dont have any 56 plate vehicles, and the 55 plate volvos are known to be out of control even in the dry! What is wrong with a driver pressing the brake, and the regular air/hydraulic system? Why does a computer have to decide how much to give the driver?
This was a fantasic bit of work by this guy, pinpoint judgement, and not over the top with the right boot!
hi nobody i don't think said this but i not read the comments :
the rear of long single deckers will allway slide out when going up a slippy hill all you have to do is use the kerbs to your advantige and if you ceep it moveing your should get to the top but this is untill a parked car terned up all so the driver did well and u say OH NO when the enviro 300 man 18.240 a69 slides out oops is fine and mant to happend so he would not be shitting his self
lol the driver on that e200 must have thought.. "hmm.. im accelerating and steering is STRAIGHT yet the bloody thing decides its going somewhere else?"
Remember my first time driving a bus in snow. The bloody thing decided to go sideways into a bus stop layby where about 30 school and college students were waiting. It was a real heart stopping moment I can tell you.
