note: like most of their stuff, this song is hilarious and really sharp and satiric. of course it won't be after the translation, but it's just to get you a raugh idea what the lyrics are about.
Note that "davar" translates as "thing" or "mailman" depending on the spelling, so the last line in verse 2 could also be "there's an end to every mailman"...
That last line in Verse 4 is literally "two drowned from one". Like the man said it can't be translated, only explained... the original saying is "Two are better than one", but he said "tova'im" (they drowned) instead of "tovim" (they are better). Qohelet must be turning in his grave from that awful pun...
Wanna hear something cool? At my summer camp, a Young Judean one, we played this song every Saturday night during song and dance. One day on a day trip with my entire bunk and the girls in our group we went skating...the girls had it on tape...and gave it to the DJ.. we SKATED TO IT! Ah youth!
(part-3) I had an uncle so damn lazy he was too lazy to even rest he used to walk visit the ant and come back depressed if only he was a bit less stupid he would probably know an addition to the saying: *"watch her ways and learn" *(i'm not sure if this saying about the ant also exist in english)
(part-4) My cusin wished only to swim to float forever he signed to swiming lessions by mail, with a famous lifeguard when eventually he went in the sea he disappeared in seconds two jumped to the rescue and they drowned all three instead of just one* *(ok, this is the funniest line but can't be translated, sorry) -end-
They performed at Lawrence HS, NY in 1976. I was there and have a strong memory of them performing Yo Ya. Never thought I'd see this again. <<Chills>>.
that was their first us tour....i saw them in san francisco at washington high...they asked the audience if we wanted them to sing in english...and we all screamed..."hell no" it was a great concert
These guys are coming to my school and playing on June 6th! And they went to my school!!!

(part-1)
My trial was a little harsh-
they sentenced me to death..
I sat on the electric chair,
kissed my car goodbye
oh if only I could *switch the chairs
because you know the old saying:
"change of place- change of luck"
*(it's clearer in hebrew that he means to switch the
electric chair with his car seats..)

(part-2)
My brother used to collect stamps
so he became a postman
he delivered the letter so good
he got a degree in it!
but oneday an inspector noticed
that he also tended to collect the letters
he immediately lost his job
well- there's an end to everything..
