  • that actually looks like a pacific set. the lugs don't look as round as they usually are.

  • Before DW made Pacific kits, their low end line was called "Drum Workshop" (as opposed to the higher end being called "DW".) So basically, you're right- they are Pacific- just under the old name.

  • PS- they also made another lower end line previous to Pacific called Collarlock.

  • Actually you are wrong. These are completely made in the USA DW's. They are the Workshop series which were made from Keller all-maple shells. The lugs do resemble the Pacifics but that line was not established yet and these were supposed to be a Mid-line series but DW found that they were just as expensive to produce than their Collector's series and this series started to eat into the collectors series market as drummers started preferring them more and were discontinued. Completely USA made!

  • I don't believe anything I wrote was wrong. I never claimed that "Drum Workshop" was NOT made in the USA. I am aware they were. That said, "Drum Workshop" was the low end alternative to DW at the time. Low end meaning lower price point, not necessarily lacking in quality. In any event, full-fledged DW they are not. They're more like Olympic was to Premier or Standard was to Ludwig, or Kalamazoo was to Gibson- made in the same place, but with some cheaper parts (hardware, lug casings, etc.)

  • When this line was made DW didn't even have a Collectors series. The workshop series was dicontinued in 1995. Both the standard DW series and the workshop series were comprised of Keller shells. DW didn't even make their own shells back then. the hardware on the workshop series, aside from the lugs was 100% standard DW. I have both sets (a standard Collectors series and a workshop series) and the spurs, tom holders etc are the exact same. I went to the factory in Oxnard and got the full details.

  • Ling story. go to some of the earlier responses for the history. They are 100% DW, made in USofA. They were a precurser to the Pacific line with all american made DW parts and all-maple keller shells.

  • If your lookin for a dw set on a good budget i would recconmend checking out your local guitar center. they have great prices.

  • Your entire kit sounds great, even unmic'd!

I really like that crash closest to the camera.

  • Thanks for your words. I play this set alot.Has a real nice sound and feel. All the crashes in the video are Zildjian A customs and the ride is a 22" Sabian Paragon.

  • hey, how much are most dw kits?? i saw 1 at long and mcquade for 400, is that reasonable? please reply, great stuff!!

  • i mean 4000 lol

  • That sound like a pricing for a new set. I have seen used Collectors Series in showroom shape for under $2,500.

  • Great sound. I had an older DW collectors kit made w/ Keller shells - loved the sound but sold it...back in the market again - cant afford a collectors but have come across a few "Workshop" series - glad to have found this video and that they keep the DW sound!!

  • I have a DW Collectors Series and this DW Workshop Series and I think the Workshops sound more full.

  • Hey! Great stuff here, bet it sounds fantastic live.

Can you disect the solo? Are the snare rolls mainly paradiddles?

    Thanks!

  • Glad you liked it. Though there are some paradiddles in there, most of the snare rolls are single and double stuff mainly with some triplets occaisionally. I wished I could have miked the set rather then depend on just the camcorder's internal mike because the set sounds fantastic live. Most of the solo is free form stuff. you know, whatever comes to mind at the spur of the moment but some of it is stuff I use habitually.

  • Nice solo, and interesting bit of DW history.

  • That's not a dw...just kidding. I know it is would you explain the series and the history behind it.

  • DW was trying to establish a mid level line, so they took all maple keller shells, assembled them in their California plant with standard DW hardware except the lugs, to destinguish them from their top series. In all, they ended up selling more of the Workshop series, and it was biting into the profits of their top line so they decided to scrub the Workshops afte only 2 production years. A year after, they determined to make their PDP line from their history they learned from the Workshop series

  • DW found that the Workshops were costing almost as much to produce as their custom series. That is another added circumstance to them dropping the line. The Workshops were only made from 1999-2000. They decided to establish PDP using more mass produced technology and outsourced labor and materials to meke them more affordable to everyone wanting to own a piece of DW history. So they decided on retaining the lugs from the Workshops to use for the PDP's.

  • alright, i'll be checking ebay for a workshop snare.

  • impressive stuff ! yeah those workshop series were cool whilst they lasted, what hi hats are those ? they sound awesome !

  • they do sound really great

  • They are 13" Zildjian Mastersounds.

  • man you people are dumbasses DW makes PDP leave the guy alone and do some research before you try and trash somebody and make yourself look like an ass in the process

  • THEY ENT DW WORKSHOPS

    THERE PDP

  • Dude, I'm not going to offer you anymore on this subject. You don't know what you talking about and are too ignorant to either learn or research about it. All you want to do is agitate. If you've been reading any of the other comments you would know what I am talking about. If this is all you have time to do is comment on "they ent DW workshops" then go do the research yourself. I don't need to justify anything. I am getting so tired of these types of posts. Grow up.

  • they dnt look nothin like dws its pdp by DW

  • NOT DW.. FALSE ADVERTISEMENT

  • First of all, I'm not trying to advertise anything. Second, you know nothing of what you say. If you want to find out just call DW and speak to them. They can verify. I have nothing to prove to you.

  • :o nice, lol, would you recormend changing the standard skins, i got a mapex pro m micro, it sounds ok.

  • I have the same kit and everyone that sees it tells me my PDP sounds great. I don't even bother explaining anymore.

  • I take it you have a workshop series set also. I can't tell you the amount of bullshit I have to put up with from people that know nothing about this series. They see the oval lug and say "those are PDP". They shoot their mouths off without doing any research to justify their claims. Have you had this much trouble with others who have seen your kit? I'll tell you, I am getting exhausted at trying to respond to every 12-22 year old that thinks they know everything.

  • Yep-I have the workshop series, says drum workshop right on the badges. And my shells are date stamped too(2000). Im not sure what year the pdps started production but my kit like yours is not pdp. The mounting suspension system is very solid and not at all like the pdps. I had a Pearl Masters kit and it sounded great but since I bought the dw kit 2 years ago, its been all I use. It made my Pearl expendable - I actually just sold it on Ebay last night.

  • Aside from the lugs the only real difference is that there is no reinforcement rings which gives the drums a fatter tone. I emailed DW when I got my kit and started getting these comments, they verified that they are dw drums and they are keller shells. Anyway - nice kit - nice solo.

  • Thanks for responding. Maybe some of these yahoos will read this before they speak. I also have aDW Collectors series and the workshops sound better. The workshops were supposed to be a high mid-level buy DW found them to cost almost as much as their collectors and the workshops were biting into the collector series sales, so for sake of prifit DW discontinued the workshop line, only to later going with an entry-level line known as PDP and utelizing the oval lug to distinguish from the top line.

  • Thanks for the comments and I'm glad you liked the playing. Will talk with you again...

  • What are the specs on these incredible drums of yours?

It goes without saying that your videos and musical talents are obscene in how awesome they are. Keep up the good job.

  • Thanks, I'm glad you enjoy them. These are DW workshop series drums. 22x18, 8x10, 9x12, 11x14, and 14x16.

  • hey subscribe and ill subscribe back

  • so isnt it technically an american pacific kit made before pacific existed?

  • No. DW manufactured these kits from All american maple keller shells with all the hardware excluding the lugs being DW and assembled and marketed in the US. Pacific is completely made out of the country.

  • whatever. its still a great sound

  • the paragon ride didnt sound like that when i played it in the store

  • did they still make the collectors series at the same time as this workshop series?

  • Yes they did. They were experimenting with making an all U.S. made mid-level kit, but found that it was as expensive to produce as their Collectors series and scrapped the idea briefly until they decided to produce them overseas and eventually in Mexico.

  • Thats pacific not the actual dw.

  • I answered this question once before..These are DW. If you do the research you will find that DW produced these in the U.S. before they started The Pacific Series. They are 100% DW.

  • Well that's odd because I have the same exact PACIFIC MX kit with the same GREEN to BLACK fade. And DW's hardware is more rounded to where the PACFIC's hardware is oval like.

Oh and I'm sorry I dont read every single comment.

  • I'm not trying to get into a pissing contest. DW made the Workshop series as a precursor to the Pacific. They we made with Keller shells and all standard DW Collector Series hardware except the lugs. They wer 100% US Made.

  • That ride sounds like a Soultone.

  • No, it's a Sabian 22" Paragon

  • Thought I'd return the favor for entertaining me with your excellent solo with a short one of my own. It's just a warm-up workout, but I agree with the brevity theme. Keep it short and sweet. Click on my name if you want to see it. Cheers!

  • Simliar to my set up but an extra floor tom.

  • great video dude! you must love using aquarian studio x heads! all the kits have them! why dont you use coated ambassador like all the jazz cats do?

  • I just like the sound and contorl i get with the studio X heads. I use coated Ambassadors on all my snares but I feel they are too ringy for the toms...Just my opinion. I play alot of fusion and the coated heads are better suited for mainstream jazz stuff I feal. By the way, thank you for your respone to my vid.

  • Great stuff! Nice to see old-school HAND chops with feel again.

  • Thanks for the kind words. I still like double bass stuff if it is played with some finesse and doesn't dominate the solo, but there is something to be said about a drummer with the quintessntial hand chops, huh!

  • You're welcome. Acknowledgement should be given where due. Too many of the vids here are just double bass rolls with multiple cymbal smashing. If these kids did the same solo with just two cymbals, (one for each bass) they'd see how simple and boring it really is!

  • does anyone know a good drum company that sells 5 piece drum sets for under $400 canadian?

  • i'm not sure try pacific

  • I've been watching all ur stuff and Im pretty impressed. I love your Sonor set. Beuatifully tuned. Infact all your sets sound amazing. What are the other sets u have or want?

  • I have 10 sets in all. Aside from the ones you've seen, I have a yamaha R/Cuctom, A Gretsch Custom maple, A 1960's Rogers, A Ludwig Clear Acrylic, A DW Collecotrs Series, A Premier Genista, and Tama Artstar.

  • wow i can see someone with ten guitars or something but 10 drum sets!! where do you keep em all!

  • In my house. You see I'm happily divorced and don't have to answer to anyone but myself. Most of them are set up but not all.

  • Is that a Ludwig supra-phonic I hear? If it is, What year is that puppy? Great video.

  • Its a Ludwig but not a supra. Its a supersensitive from 1974.

  • are there two kits in that room? i thingk i see another set of high hats in the right of the screen?

  • Yes there is. If you go to my other video Titled Bobacwrd's short Ludwig Solo you'll see the other set just in front of it. it's the Ludwig set from that video.

  • nice man i like it. what type of camera did u use?

  • Thanks for the kind words. It was a Sharp VL-WD250.

  • those are PDP, not DW.... made by dw but not as expenive and good.

  • These are Not PDP.They're DW Workshop series made in CA.from keller shells in 1995. The series was made for only 2 years as a mid level line from DW, but DW found that they were just as expensive to make and sell as the collectors series. The shell pack for this set was over $2k. Other than the Lugs, all the hardware is the same that's on the collectors series. This series was the precursor to PDP's, but are DW made in USA. Might want to do some research before you make a deffinitive statement.

  • dw only has top line

  • hey man great solos but are all these kits yours?

where did u get da money for them all?

  • Yes all the sets are mine. I pay for them with lots of overtime.

  • Great kit, and great solo!

  • Nice Solo - Do you have a drum set in every room?

  • No,in some rooms there are 2 or 3 sets.

  • Great drumset, great drumming, great video.

  • Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
