Lucas is waiting a few years so that he can release the Christmas special in 3D and sell action figures based on every single thing to appear in the film.
Too bad this was, to this day, considered the #1 worst TV holiday special of all time. George Lucas was only credited for the Star Wars characters. But as producer, director, or anything else, he wasn't involved with it. So, as George still has the rights to this project of his, this one he was mostly ashamed of, compare to Howard the Duck. And George has gone out of his way to never release this onto any video format, legally. And I'll never celebrate that Wookie holiday of Life Day, Ever!
George Lucas was involved enough to write the script, which was going to me more of a traditional Star Wars plot. But the producers messed with the script a lot, making it into more of a variety show (which were popular back then). That's why it's so bad, Lucas has nothing to do with it.
Wow, I never thought I'd say this, but thank you, George Lucas. Thank you for taking personal involvement in a project, for the purpose of suppressing it so that it never sees the light of day.

I miss when they'd announce the time for television programs and include "central and mountain".

Is it proof, by not releasing DVD/BluRay, that Lucas will not do EVERYTHING to make a buck?

I wish George Lucas would reconsider and release the Star Wars Holiday Special on DVD and maybe Blu-Ray.

He would have to release "The Empire Strikes Back" and the other two movies on Blu-Ray before or on the same day though.

I have a bootleg DVD copy that I bought at a comic convention for $15 dollars. Epic win.

@heine71 Yeah. Then he wouldn't feel so bad about how awful the prequel trilogy was.

Carroll O'Connor, star of one of TV's greatest-ever shows, introducing a promo of one of TV's worst-ever specials - how's that for irony?
Great find - thanks for sharing!

That intro was used on lots of different CBS show promos in the 78-79 season- they had similar ones with people from other current shows.

@jcice3 Valerie Bertinelli also introducing that special along with "Flying High" preceeding after.
