I'm so amused by the posters saying they should have built Hogwarts actual sized...They know nothing of logical theme park design...that would be a huge sum of money and it would have gone over the city of Orlando's height limits. This project alone cost 200 MILLION. You can engineer A LOT of magic with forced perspective. Approaching that structure makes it feel immense. Even scaled down, it is HUGE and feels ridiculously real!

It's absolutely amazing going there and walking through the castle, but I really think that since they did this at all, they should have gone all out and done the entire thing, walking through it being its own attraction other than being a line for the ride. Sure, the castle large in person, but not at all as big as it really should be. They're making enough money on it as it is; image if it was larger and more complete. Maybe I had larger expectations, but it is amazing anyway.

I waited an hour and 30 minute's just to go on, and it was only about 5 minutes long!

You can even take a tour of the castle! and it has all the items in the movie like characters wands for 30 bucks pumpkin juice chocolate toads

@Bartsudz99 You are probably looking at the huge building that houses the actual Forbidden Journey ride. Like so many rides (think Haunted Mansion) the ride would never fit inside the fascade (in this case, the castle), so they make the ride building hidden beside it. In this case, I think they did a great job of hiding it, I don't remember seeing it at all when we were admiring the castle.

@tamajinn It seems to me that you're saying that when you are up in the line to get on the seat for the ride, the ride is connected to the white building and has lik a wall connected to the castle.

@Bartsudz99 That's exactly right-- the line for the ride goes through the castle, which has Dumbledore's office and other Hogwart's rooms, but when you actually get on the ride you pass through (unknowingly) into the warehouse-looking building. If you see an aerial map of Universal, you will see that many of the rides are like that (the "Mummy" one leaps to mind).

@tamajinn Yeah, I definitely did not see that building when I was there. They do a masterful job of landscaping and keeping the sight lines free of anything that breaks the illusion. Seeing this footage and just the sheer size of the project... wow... Universal does NOT mess around.

Hubby and I attempted to take our boys to enjoy this attraction. Here were the wait times as of yesterday 6/20/10: 1-2 hours just to get on the island (Harry Potter), 2-3 hours wait once you are on the island. You must enter the line on the Jurassic Park side (no shortcuts through Suess Landing). We are Floridians and Annual Passholders so we weren't too hard pressed to get to it this time but we will be back on a Tuesday or Wednesday during and off week or even when school starts

@windada That is the ride building. They just build hogwart in front of it to make it seem like you are in Hogwarts. Its like the Haunted Mansion at Disney, its a giant pole building behind the "mansion" building. While in reality, the only thing in that part of the ride is the station platforms.

@soccerluver999 no, not A ride.... 3 rides! the dragon challenge, flight of the hippogriff, and harry potter and the forbidden jouney will be the 3 rides at the island. the first two i mentioned are actual roller coasters, but the 3rd will be an indoor ride based off a robot arm.
