  • fuck yeah! that guitar can make some sound, gr8 playing!

  • Very cool . I have a question. what is that for a guitar ?

  • nice one dude, its hard to nail the feeling of this solo but you pulled it off most guys on you tube dont i think, and btw check out my version and tell me what you think

  • your great! how long have you been playing the guitar?

  • wow! zztop would love this! : D

  • Hey Really niice cover : D U have tabs for it??? : D

  • @Jokerman1414

I am sorry. I 99.9% of the time NEVER slam on people. but bro.. he is playing it right in front of your eyes.. why would need tab..????? you have a ear.. I hope 2 .. use them... you will end up be much better player using your eyes and ears than cheating with tab ALL the time... sure I use tab ONCE in a blue moon.. but that is to ONLY check to see if what I came up with is the same as the other l person... ie: why I am looking at this Video...!!!!

    end of small rant..!!!!!

  • @kb7010 Yes i know that, im 14 years old, and i have learned pretty much of it by ear but as u say for checking and stuff it would be really helpfull with tabs too.. its not always as easy just too listen too it and play it exactly right : P

  • @kb7010 i second that opinion. I don't get why people always ask, its actually easier to see it like this anyways haha

  • Now thats one solo i'd never thought was going to be played on that type of guitar.. :P

  • very nice playing, and nice sick ass guitar!!!!

  • Even Jimi Hendrix said Billy was his favorite guitarist. Go Billy!!!

  • love ZZTop, Billy Gibbons is why i play guitar. I live for the Texas Blues, Right next to Billy is SRV! I love them both, texas blues needs its own radio station

  • Now... can you play it with no guitar.....Some people are idiots. Very nice cover.

  • First comment of the new year! Thanks, Man!

  • @Maztrim Im joking.

  • you shud do the second solo too and nice job

  • Now... can you play it standing up.

  • Yeah, I can play it standing on my head.

  • I would love to see that. Im not saying you cant. I just want to see it. Please. :)

  • :)) good comeback :D

  • @rzr77 good comeback!

  • You must know I was joking, right!?! Here's the deal. I'm just recording all these solos in front of a camcorder, so I really have no incentive to play standing up. I've played in several bands, and I never sat down for those gigs. . .nobody would've come out to see us if I had sat down!

  • ok...

  • dude you rip

  • yea, I could never do this this good.

  • holy shit thats so fuckin cool

  • u should do the second solo 2

  • hey what kind of pickups come stock in that guitar?

also is that a tube amp?

  • You are very good man!!!!...really

  • Thank you! But there's always room for improvement!

  • okay thanks.

  • Do you hammer on and pull off when going up the first part of the solo...I'm trying to alternate pick the whole thing but it sounds funny...maybe I just have to work on speeding up...

  • Thanks for the comment, and yes I do hammers and pulls for that part. Alternate picking is great, but you have to know when to use it. Certain players (like Petrucci) do a lot of that technique in their playing, so you'd expect to do it more in one of their solos. However, Billy Gibbons is a blues-based rocker, so he plays more traditional techniques.

When I play a solo, I use the techniques that are more in tune to what the original artist used, and what's more his style. Hope that helps!

  • awesome!

  • Very good. I once heard Billy G describe his playing as "greasy" and I think that was probably the most apt adjective I'd ever heard. You do a pretty solid version of his tone with that guitar+amp, too. Now I want one.

  • Thanks, Josh! Yeah, I've always loved the Rev.'s playing. His guitars just ooze vibe when he plays.

  • Cool guitar

  • very good ;)

  • The lick after the bent/vibrato C is wrong. Go back and check it out. The riff is C-Bflat-G-Bflat-G-F-G-Eflat-C-F-Eflat-C

  • Yeah, I know.

  • c-mon man you've had your input on every ZZ top video so far? c-mon man for real, you got it so good send me tabs?

  • Maybe not the best guitar for that song, still great job.

  • I disagree! ;-P

McNaught's are the best for anything!

  • If you say so. Still, I think Deans are the best, but that's my opinion.

  • I used to have an old 70s Ibanez flying V. man they are annoying to play when seated. I like the way you did that!! sounds cool..

  • Every other V I've played (besides my 2 McNaughts) is a nightmare to play sitting down. Not these. . .they fit like a glove and are more comfortable sitting than any other guitar I've ever played. That's why I had to get a second one!

  • men nice job what about tabs??

  • nice watermelon guitar!!! i want!

  • Hahaha! Now that you mention it. . .yeah, I guess it does look like a watermelon! In person, however, there's a few more colors going on than your average watermelon, though!

  • you gotta give me the tabs i love this song and i can't play it like that at all

  • THATS FAKE! ITS TOO GOOD TO BE NOT FAKE!

just kidding. this sounded really nice man! very well played!!

    5,1/5

  • WOOOOW nice cover!

  • Wow. Very nice man. That sounds dead on. Nice guitar too. I like the color. Man, it's taking me a week and I only got the first part of the solo. LOL

  • wow man, ur a gr8 inspiration 2 other guitarists like me, gr8 work. I aslo love playing this solo, and its good 2 C you put your heart and soul into it :)

  • Thank you. I really love this one (like all the others I've done). Playing guitar is truly one of the greatest things in the world.

  • i totally agree with you, the best part of playing is when you reach the point when you can play pretty much anything, which i can see you have. Just a sugeestion, mayB you could try playing canon rock, it may not be your style, but i wud love 2 see you put your own spin on it, as it is a great song for improvising :)

  • rape!

  • What?

  • nice. i can tell your inept in the ways of ZZ. how long have you played?

  • Haha. Are you sure you're using the right word? "Inept" means "incapable" or "incompetent." If that's what you meant, then maybe I am, especially in comparison to the great Billy G!!!

By the way, I've been playing 16 years.

  • I've been playing coming up on six months now. but have played 3 years ago, i just put it down when my band broke up, so I like to think I play like someone who's played a full year. Billy G, I doubt anyone can be as competent in the art of guitar as he, he not only could play, he actually KNEW a guitar, which is very rare now. Anyway, i can't play any zz songs, i'm mostly a Improv artist, but coming back to "inept" I have always used it as in "expierienced" not "incompatent" so i meant that.

  • Cool, Man. I hope you didn't take my comment the wrong way. I think you meant "adept," but it's all good. No problem, and keep playing your heart out!

  • Oh, i will. I do have a question. I'm mainly a blues player.. slowhand mostly but i can rip it up if in the mood. anyway, i know fingertapping but i was curious- what are some excercises that can build on speed? I'm trying ton transfer from blues to a metal/rock tone. and its hard for me. Thanks!

  • First and foremost, get a metronome and work on right and left-hand synchronization. The best way to do this is with alternate picking exercises. There are tons of resources at your disposal, so it's easy to get bogged down. I'd just go with something Troy Stetina's series or a video of your favorite player (or someone you'd like to learn from, e.g. Paul Gilbert). Start slow, and get ready for a LONG ride. It takes tons of time, so you have to be diligent and patient. Best of luck!

  • metronome huh. may just go to phils and get one. I've always seen and heard of them, but never played with one. thanks bud. ALOT. you've helped me, and thats more than i can say from alot of people.

  • I"m having trouble because rather than trying to hammer on and off the beginning part I'm trying to cleanly alternate pick the whole thing...any advice?

  • This is a good video, i have trouble timing this solo, but this video helps so thanks man

  • Great job as always. And awesome tone, to boot!

  • Thanks, so much, Man! I'm looking forward to see some McNaught videos of yourself, too!

  • watch your timing brutha apart from that your all good :)

  • where are tabs

  • all i can say is... nice! way to go

  • just like the recorded song.

  • homofob07, watch his other vids and look at his faces... that will show his FEELING... like his first video especially... this is his best cover... so... SHH

  • loved it but your feeling wasn't there, I just saw a man playing a nice guitar solo so it wasn't awesome but youre skills are awesome

  • Whatever dude....

  • anny way .... his not here to express himself .... just to show how you should play the solo .... and he did it soooo welll ...

great ... really like the recorded one ....

    5*

  • Well, thanks Man. But I really am only playing these solos because I truly LOVE them. One may not see the "feeling" I'm putting into this one because most of my face was purposely cut out of the video, but believe me. . .I put my whole heart into this one.

    Peace, RAZOR777

  • Beautiful my friend!

  • oh and btw, best la grange cover ever... sounds exactly like the actual song... its so amazing

  • I really appreciate it. I've always loved that song. . .about 8 years ago I even made a pilgrimage to the actual town of LaGrange, Texas. My cousin and I made a trip down there and hung out for a while. . .it was an experience I'll never forget. ZZ Top and the Reverend Billy G. absolutely rule.

  • hey im thinking about making a video dedicated to you!

  • I am totally honored and floored by that statement. Thank you so very much.

  • im actually changing the vid to be called " My Favorite Youtube Guitarists" and you'll be in it. Just choose your best 3 videos and ill put them in.

  • I'm jealous, only solo I can play is Smells like Teen Spirit, and i've been playing for 2 monthes...so...ya.

  • sick guitar body! rock on !,,!

  • awesome squeals, nice job.

  • awesome

  • Thanks a ton!

  • Man, you gotta feel what you're playin! It's good, but I don't see you're enjoying it very much ... But this solo is my own BEST! ZZ Top for ever

  • Ugh. Here we go. . .of course I'm enjoying this solo. If I didn't "feel" it, I wouldn't play it, let alone record it. In my older videos, some commented, "lose the facial expressions." So I purposely leave my face out of the camera for these (as I see it could be a distraction), and all of a sudden I don't play with any "feel."

Guess I can't win either way! LOL.

  • could u give me the tabs for this song cuz every place ive gotten it is messed up and i need a "professional" version of this and this sounds pretty amazing so could u give me the tabs please?

  • Sorry, Man. I learned this song about 7 or 8 years ago, and I did a lot of it by ear. I know I had a tab somewhere, probably from a Guitar World or GuitarOne from about that time, but I couldn't tell you where it is.

The thing is, I hadn't played this for a long time, and when I relearned it, I did it by ear, so I don't know if I'm even playing it the same as the tabs out there. Sorry I can't be of more help!

  • Yeah, it's not that difficult to learn by ear...

  • if i listened to it i would think it was the actualy version

  • pretty good man, timing off a lil at points, but nice!

  • Noice !!!
