@travisdoucettemusic - Kim preached this same sermon @ JCAwakening in Chicago this past summer. It is a 1 hr sermon, not an 8 minute clip. I was there - she had the Bible on the podium and read from it. There is a short clip on JC's website which starts with Kim saying, "The Bible says..." People, we need to stop criticizing a sister in Christ who is CLEARLY sold out for Him. Chris, Kim & JC's songs are chock full of the Word and impacting lives for Christ
The connection she's talking about has to be based in and on Who God is and what He has done for us, and on our obedience by grace. So 'the connection' has to be informed by this, and if that is not solid, our worship to Him risks becoming more about our needs than His greatness.
@alofnso007 I'm not sure who raised you, but women play a huge role in the church today. If Kim was telling lies than she shouldn't speak in church. But I agree with everything she has said and I think she should speak in church more.

I hear people say I was backslidden, but 'this' song' what was brought me back to God. A song, a cross, a building, concert, it isn't anything earthly, it is God's Holy Spirit if, a person reaches to God. You turn from God, He is still there, but He waits for you to come back to Him. And if you only are only really interested in God for an hour or an hour and a half on Sunday, you need to examine your faith in and service to God.

What amazing insight! This is such truth and such a blessing! Now, I don't deal with someone having hurt me, I struggle with myself having chosen sin and hurting others. I struggle with realizing I am forgiven. But the Word says I AM FORGIVEN! Messiah forgave IT ALL, took IT ALL on Himself when He died in my place! So I can assuredly enter in to His presence, because that is exactly what He died for! So I could have a relationship with HIM! Love conquers ALL!

@mylokoko she clearly explained that the music and songs are just forms of worship. like the verse you put, "come before His presence WITH singing" meaning you use music as a way of reaching Him, which is the ultimate goal of worship, yes? you can worship without music or songs, yes?
@Nuhaantje answered the other point well, first we have to worship God BEFORE we can love our neighbour. If you don't have that quiet time in the morning where you focus solely on God and read His word, how can you love and witness to others throughout the day?
@travisdoucettemusic firstly, I agree with what you're saying. How can someone preach without using the bible? she's speaking from personal experience, which is great but if she doesn't open the book then its all a bit wish washy. If you watch the video till the end, it actually fades out so we can't tell if she goes on to look at scripture. who preaches for only 8 mins? I would trust that she goes onto open the bible on the lectern. Were you there at the conference? if not, how can you know?
Sorry Kim, worship that is exclusively vertical is not worship as Christ defined it. It's loving God first FOLLOWED by loving our neighbor. We live in a sad day when in 8 minutes a prominent artists speaks on worship without once opening the WORD. Call me crazy but wouldn't it be a good idea to preach on worship from the book about it? The authority isn't in our thoughts on this subject but what God's Word says. How can you miss this when you have such a large platform of influence? Sad.
@travisdoucettemusic I think we all agree in what you just said. but I also thing that Kim wanned to say in this short sermon is what it would be like if we would go home and have a constand connection with God. To my personal expeience, when I have a connection with God living inside of me, it will go pritty automaticly connecting to share it with others. remember Kim talked about the well inside of you. It's a constand flow in and out. In from God, out to our neighbor and the other way around.
@travisdoucettemusic I think as one of the comments has said, you have to look at what her point was. IT wasn't to give an in-depth explanation so much as to say we wouldn't only be doing worship on a Sunday but every day of the week.
With regards to the Bible, I think there's a difference between preaching and teaching, as teaching is often about how we build people up, which must be Biblical but might not involved verse-by-verse explanation. It is good to show people where it comes from tho.
@ChristopherHeward There is no point TO be made about what worship is aside from the final Word of Christ. All of which is void of her 'talk'. By not using the Word, she's banking on her own authority, experience and feelings. That doesn't change lives nor is it an accurate representation of what God says about worship. The calling on the worship leader isn't to bank on your own authority, but to open the book and use it to both teach AND encourage. This only comes from the conviction that

So this needs to be based on the Bible clearly, I just mean that she might not spend a large portion quoting it. It'd be helpful to provide references though, so that lsiteners aren't dependent upon her but on the Word. For example we can't easily preach about consumerism, individualism, but we can teach based on Biblical...
concepts and also based on life. Not in a woolly way, but if the Bible is true then we'll see the repercussions in life. So when people teach they can draw on wisdom and life experience as well as the word, to demonstrate its relevance.
It is, like I say, concerning if she doesn't use the Bible (although she might do as the message was Biblical, if a little us/God rather than us/God/others) but her talk was generally about worship being 24/7 rather than just a Sunday. No need for mood music! :D
. . . it's the ONLY source of authority on the subject that changes lives. It always comes back to a question of authority. The Charasmatic church (of which I was raised in) is notorious for displacing accurate biblical truth. They worship in 'Spirit' but sometimes at the expense of boldly anchoring themselves in the truth. Christ calls for both (John 4).

Naxela625... i think that is what she is saying.. God does want to have that intimate relationship with us. What if the body came to church already filled up with God? instead of coming all beaten down because they didnt spend time with him all week.
The idea of prizing "knowledge" in the strictest sense is incoherent, you can only prize the object of knowledge, and the object of all knowledge is God.

@Naxela625 That's not scriptural and actually goes against everything the bible says, which is the word of God. There's so much wrong with that statement I'm just going to trim it down and say that you need to be delivered from that spirit of Anti-Christ. God reveals things to us, but all he really wants is to have an intimate relationship with us....he says to love him more than anything and to put him first. When you truly do, you truly will have no questions.
The bible is the word of MEN. If u have actually read it (and i have) u will find it filled with sexism and genocide, sins of man, not God. It is knowledge like this tht helps me get closer to Him, knowledge i cherish because it does. @Naxela625 God works through men we are his servents..the bible is full of knowledge and wisdom. The bible was writen by men of God who wrote down what they saw and heard and dreamed and visioned. The bible is key to knowing who God is. Without it i would have never knew that he sent his son to die for us. What ever problem your facing the bible has an answer. And you say its knowledge and wisdom you want read the book of proverbs thats all it talks about..

Amen... I totally agree with being connected with God 24/7... To walk with God daily and not only just want a connection with him through music on Sundays or Weds... To walk in the spirit everyday.. Just having fellowship with God should be the thing we seek the most..

Watching this really helped me. I'm 16 and I normally sing back up but my worship leader asked me to lead worship tomorrow morning for the first time. I was ready to go and excited to embrace this oppertunity. But just yesterday my teacher who I had a really close bond with, passed away. I asked questions like "why did this happen?" and i wasn't sure if I would be able to worship lead tomorrow. But watching this really encouraged me. Thanks and God bless :)

Part 4: Questioning is quintessential to life. To subvert questioning is to remove the capacity for faith to grow. The defeaters Dr. Keller refers to will eat at the seed that is sown.
We can forgive her for her lack of speaking skills (poor vocabulary, lack of precision with words, inability to articulate an idea with brevity and lucidity) because her skill is in music (and she does it well of course).
Overall, it is an excellent point and a good reminder.
Part 3: Well, that's too bad. I wonder why one is allowed to ask a question in one case (and it leads to authentic worship) only to quell questioning in another case (which could also lead to a more authentic Christian lifestyle). A sound theology and a relevance to the culture necessitates questioning (oneself, one's beliefs, one's priorities, one's theology, one's passions, etc.).
Part 2: Unfortunately, she then later vacillates. She then says she can't ask questions when hardships come. She says she has to smash the inquisitive mind away. Oops, my bad. she actually said there is an offended heart. She keeps referring to heart erroneously (she means mind. It's a challenging topic and a bit of red herring here; I apologize).
Part 1: It's too bad this is not self-evident. It's too bad we have to unlearn our poor habits and Americanized religion. It's too bad the simplest of actions must be redefined because our traditionalism and human inventions have polluted authentic Christianity. Don't get me wrong, I am thankful when the select few stand up and finally ask good questions--"why do I need to be conjured up?" I am excited for the pervasive anti-intellectualism in America to fade into non-existence.
Even though some or all people choose to thank themselves for everything they have worked hard for, HE, the God who created everything, will still be inevitably thanked for by someone else - the angels as well. But for me, I'll thank Him.
Everything you do and have isn't because of some false being in the sky. It's because of YOU. YOU make your choices, YOU work hard, and YOU get everything YOU worked for. Simple as that. I won't thank "God" for the things I have. I worked hard for them. ME. Not him.

@JesusSavesYou101 good points, but i think that no matter how much truth the bible tells us, there still are very weak arguments, and for me, that makes the difference.
its like taking a test. you may have 90% correct, but another person will have 91% correct. and in the end, i rather learn from the person who is better than you.

Yea there are contradictions in the bible. But you must remember ,we are trying to figure out an entity that is so much more powerful than we are. The knowledge that God holds is nothing compared to what we have. God is infinitly wise, he so powerful, that we cannot fully understand his nature, that why there are contradictions. But the good thing is, we dont have to fully understand him to feel his love. Its about surrendering our lives to him, and then hes just starts working thru u.
@seomoz God is so evident in my life. I went through times, where i felt like my life is over. Then i just surrendered myself, to him, in just one day everything changes. Goes 180. There is no reason for me to lie. Just try him out. One night, all by urself , just pray to God with all you heart. Just one prayer, see if anything happens.

@seomoz Good things happen to everyone no matter what religion you are in. You may choose to be kind or bad. In Christianity Your faith is not measured by your Goodness or your achievements. Actually there is no measurement at all. When a non believer gets a promotion or wins a lottery is not really achievement in Gods eye. Devil can give achievement and prosperity in this world to anyone. Its one of his ways of tricking people into worldly pleasures. Money is the main example here.

@travisdoucettemusic firstly, I agree with what you're saying. How can someone preach without using the bible? she's speaking from personal experience, which is great but if she doesn't open the book then its all a bit wish washy. If you watch the video till the end, it actually fades out so we can't tell if she goes on to look at scripture. who preaches for only 8 mins? I would trust that she goes onto open the bible on the lectern. Were you there at the conference? if not, how can you know?

Sorry Kim, worship that is exclusively vertical is not worship as Christ defined it. It's loving God first FOLLOWED by loving our neighbor. We live in a sad day when in 8 minutes a prominent artists speaks on worship without once opening the WORD. Call me crazy but wouldn't it be a good idea to preach on worship from the book about it? The authority isn't in our thoughts on this subject but what God's Word says. How can you miss this when you have such a large platform of influence? Sad.

@travisdoucettemusic I think we all agree in what you just said. but I also thing that Kim wanned to say in this short sermon is what it would be like if we would go home and have a constand connection with God. To my personal expeience, when I have a connection with God living inside of me, it will go pritty automaticly connecting to share it with others. remember Kim talked about the well inside of you. It's a constand flow in and out. In from God, out to our neighbor and the other way around.

@travisdoucettemusic I think as one of the comments has said, you have to look at what her point was. IT wasn't to give an in-depth explanation so much as to say we wouldn't only be doing worship on a Sunday but every day of the week.
With regards to the Bible, I think there's a difference between preaching and teaching, as teaching is often about how we build people up, which must be Biblical but might not involved verse-by-verse explanation. It is good to show people where it comes from tho.

@ChristopherHeward There is no point TO be made about what worship is aside from the final Word of Christ. All of which is void of her 'talk'. By not using the Word, she's banking on her own authority, experience and feelings. That doesn't change lives nor is it an accurate representation of what God says about worship. The calling on the worship leader isn't to bank on your own authority, but to open the book and use it to both teach AND encourage. This only comes from the conviction that

@travisdoucettemusic What I mean is that when people preach it is all about reading the Bible, when they teach it is about applying the Bible to particular things in life. So this needs to be based on the Bible clearly, I just mean that she might not spend a large portion quoting it. It'd be helpful to provide references though, so that lsiteners aren't dependent upon her but on the Word. For example we can't easily preach about consumerism, individualism, but we can teach based on Biblical...

concepts and also based on life. Not in a woolly way, but if the Bible is true then we'll see the repercussions in life. So when people teach they can draw on wisdom and life experience as well as the word, to demonstrate its relevance.
It is, like I say, concerning if she doesn't use the Bible (although she might do as the message was Biblical, if a little us/God rather than us/God/others) but her talk was generally about worship being 24/7 rather than just a Sunday. No need for mood music! :D

. . . it's the ONLY source of authority on the subject that changes lives. It always comes back to a question of authority. The Charasmatic church (of which I was raised in) is notorious for displacing accurate biblical truth. They worship in 'Spirit' but sometimes at the expense of boldly anchoring themselves in the truth. Christ calls for both (John 4).

@Naxela625 That's not scriptural and actually goes against everything the bible says, which is the word of God. There's so much wrong with that statement I'm just going to trim it down and say that you need to be delivered from that spirit of Anti-Christ. God reveals things to us, but all he really wants is to have an intimate relationship with us....he says to love him more than anything and to put him first. When you truly do, you truly will have no questions.

The bible is key to knowing who God is. Without it i would have never knew that he sent his son to die for us. What ever problem your facing the bible has an answer. And you say its knowledge and wisdom you want read the book of proverbs thats all it talks about..

Watching this really helped me. I'm 16 and I normally sing back up but my worship leader asked me to lead worship tomorrow morning for the first time. I was ready to go and excited to embrace this oppertunity. But just yesterday my teacher who I had a really close bond with, passed away. I asked questions like "why did this happen?" and i wasn't sure if I would be able to worship lead tomorrow. But watching this really encouraged me. Thanks and God bless :)

Part 4: Questioning is quintessential to life. To subvert questioning is to remove the capacity for faith to grow. The defeaters Dr. Keller refers to will eat at the seed that is sown.
We can forgive her for her lack of speaking skills (poor vocabulary, lack of precision with words, inability to articulate an idea with brevity and lucidity) because her skill is in music (and she does it well of course).
Overall, it is an excellent point and a good reminder.

Part 3: Well, that's too bad. I wonder why one is allowed to ask a question in one case (and it leads to authentic worship) only to quell questioning in another case (which could also lead to a more authentic Christian lifestyle). A sound theology and a relevance to the culture necessitates questioning (oneself, one's beliefs, one's priorities, one's theology, one's passions, etc.).

Part 2: Unfortunately, she then later vacillates. She then says she can't ask questions when hardships come. She says she has to smash the inquisitive mind away. Oops, my bad. she actually said there is an offended heart. She keeps referring to heart erroneously (she means mind. It's a challenging topic and a bit of red herring here; I apologize).

Part 1: It's too bad this is not self-evident. It's too bad we have to unlearn our poor habits and Americanized religion. It's too bad the simplest of actions must be redefined because our traditionalism and human inventions have polluted authentic Christianity. Don't get me wrong, I am thankful when the select few stand up and finally ask good questions--"why do I need to be conjured up?" I am excited for the pervasive anti-intellectualism in America to fade into non-existence.

God is neither male nor female although both genders are derived form his nature. There are many reasons why God chose to portray himself as a father and alot of them go very deep,too deeep for us to understand, but one of them is this: once the fall took place God knew that Fathering would be much needed, not because being a father is more important than being a mother, but because of the enormaty of it's abscence. i mean look at homes today, who is more prone to leave?

I know there are condradictions within the bible, but let me tell you: I've seen God. Ive seen him within my life, healing, making people knew, expressing love through other people Love is not of us. Evolution cannot create love, it's absolutely contradictory to all reason. God is the love. When you're crying and someone holds you in comfort, or when someone apologizes for something they didnt do when really it was your fault. When someone would die for someone they didnt know to make them happy

@JesusSavesYou101 good points, but i think that no matter how much truth the bible tells us, there still are very weak arguments, and for me, that makes the difference.
its like taking a test. you may have 90% correct, but another person will have 91% correct. and in the end, i rather learn from the person who is better than you.
in my case thats the belief in myself, because i have been less wrong than the bible.
in conclusion; you get rewarded through what you do, not what you think you do

Yea there are contradictions in the bible. But you must remember ,we are trying to figure out an entity that is so much more powerful than we are. The knowledge that God holds is nothing compared to what we have. God is infinitly wise, he so powerful, that we cannot fully understand his nature, that why there are contradictions. But the good thing is, we dont have to fully understand him to feel his love. Its about surrendering our lives to him, and then hes just starts working thru u.

@seomoz God is so evident in my life. I went through times, where i felt like my life is over. Then i just surrendered myself, to him, in just one day everything changes. Goes 180. There is no reason for me to lie. Just try him out. One night, all by urself , just pray to God with all you heart. Just one prayer, see if anything happens.

Actually there is no measurement at all. When a non believer gets a promotion or wins a lottery is not really achievement in Gods eye. Devil can give achievement and prosperity in this world to anyone. Its one of his ways of tricking people into worldly pleasures. Money is the main example here.

@seomoz Another thing you have to remember, is that half those "theories" are just that: theories. The bible can be proven, the sights, the people can be found throughout history. Thanks to King James, we dont have access to the entire bible. The bible wasnt even avaiable to the common public until the 1500's. I dont think that i get awarded, I know I am. I am rewarded every day that the sun is up and im alive. Many people judge what they cannot see; I have seen both sides and have concluded

No big bang can create a perfect planet in which just two degrees farther of closer to the sun can destroy this earth. No big bang can create a perfect human body (in a healthy, normal person).
