Does anyone really need a billion dollar rocket does anyone need a 60,000 dollars car Does anyone need another president or the sins of Swaggart parts 6, 7, 8 and 9, ah Does anyone need yet another politician caught with his pants down and money sticking in his hole Does anyone need another racist preacher spittin' in the wind can only do you harm, ooohhh Strawman, going straight to the devil strawman, going straight to hell
We who have so much more than any one man does need
And you who don't have anything at all
20 years ago we loved these lyrics, because they were so poignant.
They still are.Be it New York, where there is so much social poverty or The Horn of Africa and yet so many places right now where people are starving to death.
J,accuse!
And yet there is so little I feel I can do.What does that make me?
It makes you someone who cares. There are so much people who don't. The people able to make a real change are counting their money, buying a 3rd house, firing someone because they found one who works for 2$ less, ect. But every empire will fall, even this one. And let's just hope it will be the final one, and start living like we should.
PLEASE TELL ME DOES HE SAY ANOTHER FAULTY SHIITTLE OR SHUTTLE? I AM CONFUSED?? BLASTING OFF TO THE MOON, VENUS OR MARS.... SUCH LUSH POETRY WHATEVER THE OUTCOME HA!
One of my best concert memories was seeing Lou in the 80's in D.C. Someone kept yelling "Heroin" I guess hoping he would play that song. Lou stopped the music and said "I will play whatever I fucking want to play and if you don't like it, you can leave" That's Lou in a nutshell..Love him...
Robert Zimmerman (mr Dylan) isn't selfricheous nor God-ass-kissing i'd like to think. 1 of the few modest/shy artists . Nearly prophet-like in his way.. Reed's got the nack of it on this album, a classic. one.
I alway thought it was Bob Dylan - "whose nose led him straight to god." Cruel, unfair, witty and with a nugget of painful truth at the heart. That's Lou Reed:-)
thanks vivemaker, i remember in 1989 when i bought this album, still enjoy and still actual..... i mean the lyrics............ merci beaucoup! martin.
Lou Reed's canon is an amazing thing, but this will always be my favorite album. I know there are more popular albums, but this one touched me at a very specific point in my life. I read a review in Rolling Stone, raving about this album - four stars I think - and I stopped reading in the middle of the review and drove to Tower Records. I needed to hear it. I think it was played in high volume in my Nissan 200SX over and over again for months. Beautiful record.
This is a great song off a fantastic album. This album has some of the greatest guitar textures I've ever heard. Lou's lyrics and the music both have such a complimentary bite.
This album was my introduction to Lou reed and I`m greatful that I bought this back in 89`. This album changed my outlook on life. Lou`s an awesome songwriter and I love the New York Lp.

To you who don't have anything at all

What a track. Lou Reed at his best - golden, poetic lyrics and driving, gutsy rock. Superb.

what attitude..."does anybody need another self righteous rock singer, whose nose he says has lead him straight to god"..talking about himself

@tvdrpr must be Bono or Phil Cocklins

Yeap! "Strawman". They are quite a bunch you know, we live among them, so they can take the economic crisis and shove it in their asses, now.
