  • Race to the top is very confusing and to put this program into place he had to cut funding from GATE programs. So that measly 2% of the education budget gifted students received now will go to this headache of a program.

  • Why are they fooling around when other poor countries are getting the laptops from the One Laptop per Child project, and our kids don't have them?

Why do they act like we need "innovation" to teach competent reading, when if you look at old reading tests and scores, you can see that our highschool drop-out grandparents could read better than many college grads today?

Call letting kids watch TV "child abuse" school achievement would soar; whoops can't get in the way of major addictions...

  • yes, give the TV addicted kids lap tops. That'll help.

  • lol. Well, choice, rewinding, commenting..all would be slightly better than TV..and there *is* the possibility they would use the computers for some other activities. ..

Seriously tho, I don't know why I tortured myself watching this Obama vid. I want to see school's harm diminished, but mostly I.d like to see them out of school, period. That sick habit you mentioned on your channel..fear of being wrong..moby strengthened by school environment..obviously.

  • Because the public education system in this country has been designed to 'dumb down' the masses, not make them smarter, imho. Turning off the television is only a fraction of the problem. The problem was engineered and didn't come out of nowhere.

John D Rockefeller is quoted as saying "I DON'T want a nation of THINKERS, I want a nation of WORKERS."

... in 1902 the same J D Rockefeller established the General Education Board (GEB) - and gave them over 180 MILLION DOLLARS. Zzz back 2 sleep

  • Thanks, Capt. The problem was engineered and didn't come out of nowhere you are right...but I thought I'd take a different

approach to stimulating critical thinking about education based on the facts from people's own experience rather than history.

Btw, spreading John Taylor Gatto's website (where the whole Underground History of Education book is) is a better way to get that Rockefeller message out than just a few quotes.

  • Obama's "no child left behind"?

  • How can a country that is now trillions in debt keep spending? Where is the responsibility and respect for the American people?

  • Thank you!

  • The federal government isn't supposed to be involved in education to begin with...in fact, education is competently handled by simply putting children in stimulating environments with supportive people around.

My daughter had taught herself to write at 4 with no encouragement, much less tutoring from me. She was however, exposed to print, and had writing tools and paper to play with, and saw myself and her father writing.

See teacher John Taylor Gatto's writings, John Holt, etc.

  • People will soon realize money doesnt mean anything...Its gonna be awesome.

  • @mrkurt13 Dollars aren't going to mean anything. Everyone has always used currency from the beginning of time, and that will never end.

  • yes but the things we need currency for will dwindle. Food, housing, water, education can all be made in such abundance it becomes ridiculous to charge for it. As robotics technology increases, the cost of most manufactured goods will also approach zero. Things will need to be drastically restructured unless you are advocating creating artificial scarcity to keep the current system working.

  • SPEND SPEND SPEND!!!!! Thats his answer to everything thats broken, just TOSS more cash at it.
