  • @fc3sghost

    I wanna get a 350 too, but I love my little 305 t5 :)

Check out my third gen vid

  • So this is not stocked, what exatly did you do to it?

  • I have a iroc z ..it was loud ass fuk flow masters and shtt......so i put hedders nd it sound like if it was a stock camaro some one help me

  • @hijodepapi1 if thats the case u might of just had a bad exhaust leak off the manifolds that caused it to be so loud

  • get a 383 you will kill almost anything on the streets

  • what kind of cam you running

  • nice jack stands.

  • rs z28?

  • lol every one tell me to get rid of my 305. and grab a 350. i know 350's are beast but my lil 305 out runs the modern v6's or inline 6 motors. Still i do want a 350 4 bolt main haha

  • i dont get it does making it carb make it better?

  • a built 305 is basically the same as a built 350 only difference is more displacement equals more power. you can make a 400hp 305 easily, setup of 4.10's and you got mean little muscle car thats reliable.

  • what is the deal with these "open headers"? do these kids think it sounds cool??

  • dont underestimate the 305 yea a 350 will make more power but everybody on the planet has a 350 its nice to be different sometimes these little 305s are mini torque monsters i have a 85 z28 with a built 305 so much fun spankin people with a 305 they never see it comin

  • I said stock 350.

  • A properly built 305 will wax a stock 350.

  • @n3wl0nd0nf a properly built 350 will wax a properly built 305.

I fail to see the logic here, as a 350 is no more expensive to mod than a 305 if not cheaper due to all the support for the 350 in general.

  • did you get that chrome air cleaner off jc whitney?

  • lol i just bought my first car/camaro yesterday

  • A lot of money and time spent beefing up a 305...esp a TBI 305. The 3.8 V6 made more power. Great looking third gen F body though.

  • @jazzman3071 true (and I'm a 3800 Camaro owner as well), but the V6 can't hold a candle to the 305s torque at low RPM. The biggest bitch of those 305 cars is the gay 2.73 rear end gear.

  • hmm the kit i want is 950 from eagle and i gotta get new heads 1500 so im guessing i can do it for 3grand hopefully

  • If you haven't already....you need to at least dump the tbi and convert to carb...you will be alot happier....we just did the swap on our 89 iroc z28....BIG diffrence

  • i like the ghetto jack stands

  • Sounds like a stock L03 to me. Also, it cant be a Z28 and RS. Its either a RS or Z28, and looking at it, its a Z28.

  • why the fuck would you put wooden blocks i guess you sir neverheard of jackstands

  • whats it being held up by

  • lovely sound of the 305 engine it sounds awesome.

  • what camshaft did you get i have same car win same color with tbi 305 can i use the same cam?

  • What cam is that ive been looking at cranr powermax cams but that sounds strong let me know i have the 91 rs lo3 305 stock roller bottom end did u need a chip or did it work with your stock computer

  • what cam are you running

  • Second that... My original TBI 305 was slow as hell. With mods theyre OK though. You will need to at least get a full aftermarket exhaust and intake if you want to get any sort of performance out of it. Ideally you should also go with a new cam and heads along with tuning. Properly set up, you should be able to at least hit 275 HP in chassis.

  • @dimented24x7 Yeah 305s stock suck for a v8. Also you need an over size cam

  • @Smokie420ish they made good power using tbi compared to a 350tpi of the time was only 20 percent faster

  • @jayguy173 a TBI with good power? LMAO! those were some of the worst performing engines ever! they gave 3rd gens a bad reputation. but they did last forever and were good on gas, thats about it.

  • @warmachine1983 well i work on lots of cars and i know the 4 barrol 305 they had before tbi was a tad slower it made less horsepower when you compare any 305 and its type of injection to a 350 it makes slighty less power stock the 305 all together was low on power because it didnt have good heads in stock form

most tbi where on trucks 305 350 and 454 truck engines only tpi was faster

  • @jayguy173 You're right, the 305 was low on power. 350's in the 80's were'nt all that either. The 350 didn't redeem itself until the LT-1 came out in these cars in 93.

  • drove a '92 RS auto yesterday, wasnt exactly impressed but i had fun. it's nice to be able to hammer the throttle and not go anywhere lol. but how does this perform compared to stock? i'm not a chevy guy but may look at getting one and want to know what i can do. thanks.

  • @RosieKR Well what RS was it the v6 or v8 there was a 2.8 v6 3.1 v6 a 305 v8 and 350 v8. If some else could help me i could have thought there was another v6 ik like one of the smaller engines was more powerful then one of the big ones.

  • @Smokie420ish

no 350 for the RS homie in third gens. ever. Truth be told I have a 92 RS TBI 305 T5 which is the best and newest third gen u can get being that is is the strongest standard trans and newest year, and my car is in the shop getting a T56 and an LS based motor with long tube headers. Sadly those motors are all shit, ALL of them, unless u had a Z which u can have a 350 with auto. So drop a REAL trans in it and build the motor, cpl of rear mods and brakes and ur good.

  • @yootoob04 Lol sorry I should have been more percise about that. The 2.8L I here was stronger than the 3.1L but that was a lie. TPIs are more precise than the TBI. The RS is just a sporty package they use on the Camaro. Did you buy the LS motor and T56 tranny brand new or from a salvage yard?

  • @yootoob04 Also the 92 305 with the T5 was the last year of the V8 using a 5 speed.

  • @yootoob04 not all 80s camaros offerd the 350 most where 4 barrol 305 tbi 305 or tpi 305 the l98 was only offerd for last 4 years and put out 230hp just like a top model tpi 305

  • @yootoob04 my 89 rs came with a 700r4

  • The Z06 replicas, did you have to have those specially made for a third gen or are the third gen and fourth gen camaro bolt patterns the same?

  • @Yearonecamaro bolt pattern is the same but you need spacers if you want them to fit right in the wheel wells, you dont necessarily have to use spacers but it is recommended

  • you should have gone with an x pipe. but badass camaro

  • I have a 88. cool car but a rough ridding car

  • semi truck brake drum with jack stand on top works good to get under the 3gen camaro and firebirds, still they sit so low its a pain to change the oil

  • what kind of wheels are those?

  • @chadinem vette z06 rims i believe

  • Yeah, I figured that out right after I posted that comment. but thanks

  • i need some advice... i have a 91 camaro rs and want to put a 350 in it but since its just a rs it wont have posi or anything. so should i just look for a z28 donor car or just buy a z28 and fix it up or deal with no posi

  • Dude i have a "91 Z and it doesn't have posi either. well, it pulls posi sometimes, but only on straight wholeshot. only one tire spins around corners. i would just weld your spider gears together, or get one of those gears that you can put in your rear-end...u dont need a whole donor car, a pisi rearend out of almost anything will work...i would go with a ford 4:11

  • 305 and 350s are the same blocks just different bores. Get a high output 305

  • noooooo

  • @Uknowmetom different blocks man you punch out a 305 to 4inches your in the water jackets

  • @immondragon well the 305 just needs better heads you dont have to expand the bore to flow more air just look at imports the integra type r has small bore and makes 195hp and hyundai even makes 130hp from a 1.8liter using dohc small bore long stroke engine

  • @jayguy173 Well.....as far as heads, you have to be careful of the valve size. If you go bigger than 1.94 valves, the valves WILL hit the cylider walls.

  • nice car......not bad for a 305 nmo

  • yup

  • What size cam is that? sounds small.

  • u wont to sell it i have a 92 camro rs very very clean new paint ill trade or how much do u wont for it i really wont ur car

  • Nice Camaro, i love the sound, i have a 91' myself, with a 305, its got MagnaFlow y-pipe on atm but i wanna get an X or H pipe exhaust on it, i also wanna swap my auto tranny for 5-speed, im still undecided what to do with the engine, there's so many great options, i'd like to either install an LS engine (1 or 3) or a Patriot Performance 383, 450hp for $4000, or maybe just try building my 305, people rag on those engines a lot but with a little work they'd make a mean ass high output 327

  • exactly dude. I have a "91 Z that looks new. i'm just gonna build up my 305 a little more, forget all the headaches of a new motor.

  • its not that hard to do an engine swap in a third gen pretty easy

  • @chadinem its either headaches of a new motor or pathetic performance...........hmmmm let me see here.....lol

  • throw out that 305 and get a 350 or a 400 and you'd be a happier dude

  • friend of mine put a pretty much stock 400 into a 86 berlinetta, that car ran hard. Was his daily driver for awhile.

  • @GrannyWhackers1217 nah 305's ok

  • nice car...i like the wheels i had the same set on my ws6 but i took em off to put on my 91 z....

  • every time you revved your engine you can see oil spilling on the floor

  • all these guys arguing about a 305 crank working in a 350 lol it will for awhile. itl throw the bearings because of differnet sized pistons. the weights on the crank will viberate. therefore, goodbye bearings

  • Not true. Its the same crank. Go to an auto store they will hand you the same crank for either motor.

  • get rid of your y pipe and run true duels on it.

  • what cam did you put in? and did it need a chip?

  • 305's are the underdogs/ the fuckup of the 80's but if you can out run someone with it. It makes it all the sweeter to brag about. lol am i right? lol

  • true.. just smogged down is all.

Open the exhaust and intake up. throttle body spacer. ultimate tbi mods and you got a pretty good running effiicient truck/car.

almost any cam/heads you put in a TBI mtor you have to get a custom chip, to whoever asked that. can't just buy mailorder either, its best to tune it yourself or just have it dynotuned

  • you must have removed the warm air intake duct aswell as the air injection to the manifolds. how did u get the computer to tune the air fuel mixture proporly? I have the exact engine in my 88 iroc. i have removed the air injection from the manifolds and the warm air intake aswell. by now my car runs really rich, all you can smell is gas. just wonderin what you did to fix the prob cuz that thing runs mint!

  • @mdxmdxmdx1 sounds like you have some other issues since anything outside of the throttle body on tbi didnt affect fuel mixtures except the two sensors right ontop

  • @TommyTransam yea but the gas mileage they get was awsome ad the tbi happens to be the 170hp model while 82 thrigh 85 made only up to 155hp on even a z28

  • @TommyTransam believe me, you wont be bragging because those 5 point slows cant outrun a damn thing. I guess in theory it would be sweeter to brag about it. but in reality, it just aint happening

  • @TommyTransam they are junk pretty much but i have seen 305s run 11s with the help of the same cost to build a 350 but its a 305

  • @ericg83z Yeah i cant say anything though, i threw out my tired 305 for a 383 stroker lol But for my old 305 to keep up (but never win) against newer cars was a little fulfilling in itself to tell them yeah its only a 305. I love my power now though. lol

  • @TommyTransam really eh , how do u like the 383 and how much did u buld that for?

  • @ericg83z The build= $9,500+ 2500 for spray kit. The gas to run it= Alot! Pulling up in a old 80's third gen next to a newer stang, etc, and leaving it at the light in a cloud= PRICELESS......lol

  • its better then my camaro buh still garbage compare to what the crate engine im gunna buy 383 450 patriot bitches 4 speed stick trans

  • i have a 92 firebird 305tbi. how hard was it to install true duelies? considering they came with that dumb cross flow set up. that and is this set up quick?

  • I have a question. I have two TBI motors. And the original air cleaners have all of these sensors and shit hooked up to them. So how do I run an old school air cleaner like that on them?

  • i know how. it's easy

  • to almostland1: 305 and 350 crank are NOT interchangeable, 350's had bigger pistons, which necessitated bigger balance weights on the crank. put a 305 crank in a 350 or vice versa, the engine will vibrate. 350 crank can have material drilled from the counterbalances to work in a 305, but a 305 crank cannot be used in a 350.

  • 05 and 350 crank are NOT interchangeable, 350's had bigger pistons

what do pistons have to do with crank..... you just sound like an idiot, also a 283 crank will fit all the way to a 400 if the mains are the same size

  • actually yes they are... only difference is the balance specs...

and for a 283 crank to fit a 400 youd need bearing spacers...

  • mig8830: That was the whole point of my post. It will bolt up, but the balance will be wrong, resulting in a harmonic vibration, which, at low RPM is annoying, but at high RPM can destroy the entire rotating assembly.

  • the big weights on the crank are designed to counterbalance the motion of the pistons. Bigger pistons in 350's means more weight to counterbalance them. smaller pistons in 305 means weights can be shaved from 350 crank. Ask anyone who has actually attempted to use a 305 crank in a 350, they will tell you that the engine vibrated. Yes, a 305 crank will bolt up. doesn't mean it will work properly. Think what you want, but until you actually build an engine, keep your dumbass comments to yourself.

  • One caveat: I'm not referring to modified crankshafts. I'm talking about a factory spec crank. a350 crank can easily be **MODIFIED** to work in a 305. From the factory, it doesn't work.

  • well, the GNX's were "rated" at 245hp so as not to trump the 250hp 'Vette, actual output was closer to 300hp, as were the '89 Turbo Trans Am's. Although many 305's put down respectable numbers with mods, by nature, any mod performed on a 305 will have a greater effect if performed on a 350, so 350 is a better starting point. For reasons that i don't have space to explain, you can't simply swap crank and rods and have a stroker 305. 327's had 4" bore, water jackets in 305 block won't allow 4"bore

  • i seen v6 turn out power then dem 305's

  • what kind of cam did you get i have an 86 iroc and really dont know what kind to get

  • a cammed 305?

hmm...i talked about doin this once at some car club and they made fun of me and said to get a 350...

    :(

  • don't go what other people have to say i'm puting a bigger cam in my 2.8L v6 so what

a 305 and a 350 are pridy mutch the same

a 400 crank and bore is bigger and i think thats it

    a 350 crank will make a 305 a 327 i think

  • hell yea...

im keepin my little 305 until it goes...

i think it was the grand national that had the v6 with a shitload of horsepower..im not sure...

well i know you can do an assload of stuff to an engine and make it go

  • its true 305 and 350 crank are that exact same...ive seen 305s making about 400 hp when done up right

    :)

  • Yeah grandnationals. They were a v6 with turbo. The 1987 model put out 245 hp (183 kW) and 355 lb·ft (481 N·m) of torque. Which was pretty strong for that day, especially from a v6.

  • a 350 crank and a 305 crank are the same. I have torn apart many of each to find the same casting crank in each. the stroke is 3.48" and the 400 stroke is 3.75". the bore is the diff between a 305 and 350. 3.76 vs 4" respectively. nothing wrong with a 2.8 v6 either. I had a 92 S10 with TBI 2.8/T5 and it got 30mpg highway and has 250k+ on it now. Never been opened up.

  • A 350 and a 305 have the same stroke but different bore. So crank from a 350 will not increase the CI.

  • ROFLMAFO

  • Hey, i have an 87 with a 305, How much did your cam cost? And how much do you think it would cost to be installed by a shop? Thanks.

Oh, and what cam are you running?

  • That's not a Z/28 really.....but if you're like me, and it runs like one, it's OK to call her that.

That's one hell of a Camaro by the way!!

  • anyone knows how much is cost to rebuilt a 305 engine?

  • depends on what you want to rebuild it with

You can get a engine rebuild kit with all the gaskets needed, main bearings and pistons for about 299-500

Throw in a new cam for about 199+ or so

  • i may sound stupid for asking this but i gota learn somehow.. how do u make it idle like that? i hear it mostly worth bigger engines but i hav a stock 305 in my 89 and i wanted it to rumble. i hav exhaust on it but its not the rumble i want, recommendations?

  • Put in a bigger cam mostly; that'll affect the way the valves open and will cause that rumble. Exhaust does it somewhat, but you really need a bigger cam.

  • ok kool ty =P

  • big cams it will sound mean

  • headers and new cams

  • there is only 1 cam

  • The engine idles like that because of the cam and tune he has on the motor. Yes a full exhaust can change it somewhat, but to get an idle like that, you need to tear into the engine to get it to do that.

  • Its against the law to not have the front plate on the front bumper.Back in 2000My friend got a Ticket even though 2000 Trans Ams DON'HAVE ANY SORT OF PLACE FOR A PLATE since thers a letter limit i'm going to leave a second one sorry they have to limit us

  • it depends where you live

  • it depends on where you live, here in SC you only have to have a back plate.

  • Thats an amazing job you did on the LO3. Unless you read the title, that thing almost sounds like a BBC. Is is bored and stroked as well? What kinda numbers does it put down?

Nice to see someone respects the 305.

  • wth no its not u fking idiot!!!!! 305 pwns... u get can like 600 horse easy out of one of those smallblocks... and there easy to work with.

  • no you cant get it easy out of one of them but its possible but 350 sb are so much better you gt more torq and rwhp out of one than a 305 example my friend has an s-10 with a built 305 i took my 72 nova with a 350 and a 750 cfm carb and easily left him

  • omfg. u beatem cuz he was in a truck. not a car, built for the street. the drive train in a truck is meant for the dirty work and cars are set up for the road. but it also has ALOT to do with the year of the block and what performance parts you have on each engine

  • it may be one of the slowest camaros produced, but thier still my favorite body styles.. i love my 1991 rs camaro, i get alot of compliments. one day,(soon)im guna put my 383 in it..

  • it's funny cause thats one of the slowest camaro's ever produced!!

  • nice camaro aren't does rims from a c5 corvette?

  • How can you tell the difference between a TBI and TPI?

  • TBI's are slower from the factory and typically have a more throaty, lower sound.

  • the most obvious way to tell the difference between TBI and TPI is that TBI (throttle body injection) has the air filter on top, and has what looks similar to a carb pointing up towards the hood of the car, however it is a throttle body. TPI looks like it has a silver spider sitting on top for an intake manifold and the air filter is housed in the front clip away from sight

  • ya that and the fact TPI has badges and whatnot on the body saying TPI.

  • TBI - single point fuel injection

    TPI - multipoint fuel injection

    Both ECM controlled.

  • TBI - single point fuel injection

    TPI - multipoint fuel injection

    Both ECM controlled.

  • TBI throttle body injection

  • TBI= Throttle body injected

    TPI= Tuned Port Injection

    hope that helps

  • what kind of cam is in it... i have a 305 tbi camaro and i wanna see what i can do to it other than swap for a 327 of 350...thanks

  • This car looks like my old 91 Z28.I had a 350TPI with the same Z06 wheels.

  • that thing looks and sounds bitchin

  • what size cam did you put in it? Did put 350 heads on it?

  • hey man, that's a great lookin car. cool to see someone doing something with tbi too. beautiful!

  • I had a 91' w/305. I loved how it handled, but it was slow. I got it at 16 and had so much fun in that car. Yours is much nicer. Nice paint, wheels, and engine build.

  • Really nice ride but if you want some real jam I'd highly recommend swapping in at least a 350. I've fooled around with 305s a bit and they just don't give the same power returns as the 350 or 400 and you'll spend just as much. Good luck with your project!

  • now now, the 305 can be stroked and can make a sweet ass street car.

  • I'm sorry but your camera sucks and the 305 is a boat anchor.

  • think macho man randy savage just shit his pants!!!!!!

  • T.B.I. system's actually kinda suck the mods r very limited and stock power of like 160hp suck. you'd be better off w/ a simple intake & carb swap? you'll need a vacuum advance dist. but they're cheap, and an msd box wouldn't hurt. Very nice camaro though don't want it to look loke I'm putting it down. It's chevy who's 2 blame for getting rid of the TPI

  • Their are a ton of mods to do for the TBI, and with the EBL thats out now its VERY easy to tune yourself.

With just simple mods and a good tune they easily get into the mid 14's!

  • also stock TBI engines are stock 170 hp... not 140.. and as the looks, he swapped the engine, or maybe made it look good, but Im sure he's making about or more 200 hp.

  • yea, I have a 92 camaro rs it's 170 at the crank but 140 at the rear wheels

  • Vacuum advance dist?? Nahh the stock GM HEI distributors with the external coil and 8-pin ignition controllers are keepers. They do work well with an MSD and performance coil tho ;)

  • his tbi system can support around 250 hp. his fuel pump is the weak link.a tbi is basiacally a computer controlled carb. but i am making my 305 tbi carb'd mainly because my ignition is messed up, and im swapping a carb'd motor in it anyways, so i might as well start.

  • A nice 305 is the L69 in some monte ss and z28s from 83. Throw the TBI on the L69 and it will feel like a 350 but get good mpg.

  • hey what style off rim is that and size thats what i want for my 1992 rs

  • its a zo6 rim off of the corvettes... i think they also came on 01 and/or 02 camaros

  • ther's no such thing as a v4 only inline 4 to have a v shaped engine you have to have 6 or 8 cylinders i have a 1988 camaro iroc-z28 putting a 40 series delta flow muffler anybody tell me what they think if that muffler is good or not

  • Honda VFR800, thats a V4. Look it up.

  • Quite a few V4s out there actually, along with lots of V-twins.

Couple of V5s as well, although they're more like an inline engine with offset bores.

Like Ian says, the VFR's a good example. Ford V4's another one too.

  • porsche and vw made a flat 4

  • that muh fuckers bad lol! i got a 91 rs drop top with a brand new l03 Tbi with a built 700 tranny. love them rims bout to put those on mine. great car!

  • the best parts from the irocs and most z28s is the wonderbar, posi, aluminum driveshaft, and quick ratio steering box! the tbi 305 where really only for the base rs models. the irocs and z28's mostly came with 305/350 fuel injected motors. the heritage edtion package on the camaro is really just badges, color matching grill, and stripes. the most horsepower stock from an 82-92 camaro is 245 horses!

  • irocs were from 85-90, the 91 and 92 z28 are most preferred for the fact of the body kit, hood with blisters and the high rise wing.

  • Sounds ready to go to me!

  • the 1 inch swirl tbi spacers give them stupid torque with an exhaust though

  • Same here. It's just has the air filter set up like a carburated model.

  • That engine is identical to the one in my camaro. it's hard to find 305's that look like that.

  • Hott car! My favorite gen!

  • If they can make 700hp honda civics with 4 bangers, you can definitely make an engine with twice the cylinders make some serious power. Its a V8 bottom line.

  • doesnt matter the heads are really resrictive and the cylenders them selfs arent very big. hondas can make power because they are highly tuneable and they make a ton of aftermarket parts...its extremlly hard to find parts for a 305 and ur better off just puttin in a 350

  • well maybe but for the same price a Chevy magazine got a tbi up to 364 hp with heads, after market intake and the 454 injectors. plus the tbi stock has 255 lbs/tq not bad , much better than a ricer, plus handles much better (Z28)

  • did you have to do any computer work to get the came to run right?

  • Oh to answer Blue208's question. The first year for the 350 in the 3rd generation Camaro's was in 1987 and could only be equiped with TPI and an auto transmission(700R4). 350's and 305's were offerd in the 1992 Z28 but were TPI's only. A good way to tell that a 1992 is equiped with a 350 is if it has a hard top, 145mph speedo, and L98 written on the rpo sheet. Plus my car was originally an RS so sorry for the confusion.

  • Sounds great, what are the cam specs?

  • What would you suggest for someone like me who wants a 1992 Z28 to find and restore? Preferrably a V8. I dont know much about cars but i'd like one. I've heard the terms IROC Z28, Sport coupe, RS, Berlinetta, and Heritage Appearance Package...could you explain what the difference is between these and which one would be the best to restore and has the most power? Thanks. Nice spoiler and paint job.

  • any camaro can be made fast. the iroc and z28 models are the fastest stock third gens. heritage package was simply a 25th annvisery package. white/hugger orange white strips, 1992. RS are the most affordable third gens. mine is a 89 RS. they came with 305 TBI or a 3.1/2.8 v6. i recommend a 305 tbi if you go with an RS. 305 and 350 use the same trans. a 350 can be made to run with the tbi fuel system.

  • Which is better all around between the iroc and z28? Most people are telling me a 1992 350 5.7 V8 is hard to come by, which one would you suggest?
