Is the base coat polyurethane or polyester? I've heard that both can clog the pores of the wood and choke the resonance, as opposed to nitrocellulose or a natural oil finish.
I have, anybody that says there's tone wood for a jacking in Electric guitar is giving science a big fat smack in the face.
it doesn't make sense - you can stick that pickup in a cement block - as soom as you plug that in there's little difference.... if wood effected AC current generating amplified tone we'd be in a world of trouble.
@BigBlackPug ... oh come on... this is just sanding, not even close to be a real Luthier... anybody can do that with a bit of training... I remember I had a CE24 and they certainly forgot this step because the varnish on the back of the neck was all spotty..
As a hobby guitar re-finisher, I wonder what the secret is to getting the same amount of clear on the edges as on the top and back. Edges don't seem to hold as much base/clear, so it's very easy to sand through the clear. Hmm....
Do you ever burn through basecoat on the binding? Do you guys paint your binding to hide pits you have fixed or burns etc? Thanks

I think PRS spends the gross domestic product of malaysia on sandpaper lol

give the guy some credit - it takes a lot of guts to take a sander to other peoples work - good on you Jason!

yeah... i just watched a video of a guy sanding the whole guitar.... how boring

@intrsoul, the "secret" is that the sprayer spray's a little extra clear on scharp edges, preventing the sander from sanding through.

Next time we get to see the paint dry?
Good to see those Georgia Degrees are still paying off bigtime. (Go Gators!)

@mrichman there's no such thing as tone wood for electric guitars.
Plugged in a plastic guitar would sound the same as mahogany...wood only slightly effects the vibration of the strings - and even that's depending.

@zenzeypher your a complete moron if you believe that...

@zenzeypher Um, no.
Clearly you have not played an ash guitar compared to a mahogany guitar, there's an absolute 180 degree difference.

If I had the money I could quite fancy an 'orange peel' finish before this man does his work....looks quite characterful

Wow, you definitely get what you pay for with PRS.

This is why PRS guitars look spotless, but cost more.
