Well people... I'll tell you... The Illuminati in the beggining were Scientists(Galileo was a part of them). In the 15-16th century when the Church taught people that the earth is the center of the universe, the Illuminati were trying to prove that they were wrong using Science. Then the Vatican got pissed off and started to hunt them down. I think the hunting Illuminati down was called La Purga. So in turn, we can thank the Vatican for making the Illuminati violent! Their altar was capitalism and the blessing they sought was profit. `They didnt care less if they had to do it through lies and twisting of historical facts. Having studied history and the Bible for many years, I was led to convert to Catholicism several years ago. Actually the Jesuits control the New World Order and Adam Weishaupt was a Jesuit himself. He started the Illuminati as a sort of new Jesuit order. Do some research on that history. Also, read what past president's themselves said about the Jesuits and the Illuminati/Jacobism.
