  • Watch Emma West Lady On The Tram Exclusive Police Interview. Copy and paste: watch?v=H2je4MHUd4s into youtube

  • The actual actions of Emily was not exactly like 'BAM, big accident, women get the vote' kind of thing but, It worked in a sense that made most people realise slowly that they really do want the vote, however the other side people say that it made bad publicity and made matters worse. However me being a girl myself i think that woman deserve the vote just as much as anybody else, i just wish that maybe it didnt have to be so drastic (:

  • It's disgusting how many people go to see if the horse is ok before they check on Emily.

  • @MissNephilimAngel Very poor powers of observation on your part. The people are rushing towards the figure lying on the ground, which is the jockey, not the horse.

  • Here comes the boom!

  • Brave?? Silly cow! Fail to see what's 'brave' about such an idiotic, futile gesture!

  • @Blueeyedboy87 I do not agree with all their methods but this action was not futile, , even if the jockey was forever shocked he thought she was courageous and later campaigned for the rights of women.Women were fighting for their rights as well as for ours. Of course today women think feminism is to read ELLE, but come on when I see how women treat themselves and how they are treated, I can't stop thinking about all the brillant women how sad it is to see what happen nowadays.

  • @Blueeyedboy87 shut the fuck up nob eyes

  • @Sh0ck3rMaN Is that supposed to be some kind of insult, you retarded fuckwit??

Do us a favour, and go throw yourself in front of a horse, arsehole!

  • @Blueeyedboy87 why dont you shut the fuck up your embrassing yourself. she did that to get women the votes. yes it wasnt the brightest idea. but it was brave. You have no idea what it was like for women in those times. People like you are the scum that treated women like shit. and this is coming from amman. i did not agree with some of their protest methods. but she had a lot more balls then than you do now.

And i think youre the arsehole out of the two of us. Prick

  • @Sh0ck3rMaN Embarrassing myself?? HA! How dim-witted and naive are you showing yourself to be with your lame arguments, you ass?! So throwing herself in front of a horse got women the vote, did it?? Somehow I don't think so...And what do you know about the conditions of women then?? Were you around?? And how the fuck can you say 'scum like me' treat women like shit?? What the fuck do you know about anything, you jumped-up, arrogant, sanctimonious piece of shit?!

  • @Blueeyedboy87 The way you write says it all. Maybe you are not impressed because life is so easy for us nowadays. So easy because people like her fought for a cause and made life easy on us. I wonder: what do you do? You probably only criticize other people. And I'll ask you the same question: what do you know about the way people and especially women lived then? Maybe it would be an idea for you to buy a history book. Read and learn and then come with some good arguments yourself.

  • @JanetLeeuwerik I love how certain people think that just because she threw herself in front of a horse - and got herself killed - that directly got women the vote, that her action was praiseworthy or that she was immediately some kind of martyr; if anything, it damaged women's rights in certain people's eyes. If she'd done something equally rash like shooting the King, would that still be praised in such glowing terms? And I love how you say my life is easy...

  • What do you know about my life? Did she do something for gay men's rights that I'm unaware of? If a gay man throws himself in front of HM's horse, do you think that would be praised in such glowing terms? You know nothing about my life, so don't criticize me for 'not knowing what women lived through then' when you know nothing about me. And just because I don't agree with her action doesn't mean I'm unaware of women's being treated as nothing more than their husbands' property back then

  • or that they suffered. Just because my opinion doesn't accord with certain people's doesn't mean that my historical knowledge is somehow deficient. I appreciate your argument, but just think think certain people's arguments are too simplistic.

  • @Sh0ck3rMaN 'Having balls' - as you so elegantly put it - is one thing; having sense is another...

    WANKER!!!!!

  • Brave woman! Unfortunately, it was the First World War that finally led to women getting the vote - and then only for those over the age of 30! However, let us not forget that in Switzerland women did not get the full vote until 1971 and one Canton held out until 1991!

  • I really like this video, informative, historically accurate, but I really think there could have been a better song chosen to accompany it. The Annie Lennox song, though I get the suffragette theme of the lyrics "sisters doing it for themselves"... it's too acronistic for an incident that happened in 1913.

  • Ouch

  • Is it just me or does anyone else think what this bitch did was fucked? Like seriously... Poor horse, poor jockey. Does anyone realise the WSPU was an extremist group who hurt a lot of people and damaged a lot of property to make a point? Much like modern terrorist groups. Anyone who thinks she is a hero is stupid.

  • @MrJimmyjam24 I strongly disagree with what you've written. Firstly, I hope you know that this protest along with others directly contributed to massive shift in gender equality and women getting the vote. Secondly, to compare them to modern day terrorist is misguided. Islamic terrorists are wrecking the world out of religious martyrdom, they're fanatical about essentially a 1400 year old religion. The suffragettes actually had a worthy cause, not in pursuit of expanding a religon.

  • So great of her, how she led this jockey to eventually take his own life.

  • RIP Emily Davison

  • I am proud to say that i am related to this woman. If anyone knows anything about her please tell me. i know she is my cousin but i want to know exactly how im related. brilliant video. made me cry though :)

  • j/w, wat happened to the horse?

  • LOL, my whole class laughed at this! XD

  • @AlpineWilfy im sorry my little brothers been on my youtube hes so fucking gay

  • @AlpineWilfy hear ked fuck off u twat u wouldnt of done owt like that for people in the future coz ur probably a stupid skittsy twat now piss of and comment on something where people care about ur stupid thoughts!

  • Emily davison died for the future of mankind no man would of ever thrown their self infront of a horse the would of been to skittsy !!!!!!

  • @AlpineWilfy agreed :)

  • WHAT A TWAT HAHAHAAAA

  • Does everyone realise this wasn't her plan? She was going to head home, she just wanted to put the flag on the horse. She was seen practicing beforehand with horses by a neighbor, but she misjudged the horses speed and was fatally injured by this and died in hospital.

  • I love the Video loads, but I just thought that I should say that Emily Davison didn't throw herself in front of the horse she tried to slow it down so she could pin a flag to it. That way when it crossed the finished line in front of the King it would have a sufferage flag on it.

She practiced do this on her own horses, but miss judged it how fast the Kings horse was going.

But what ever happened, she gave her life for my vote and when I'm old enough, I'm going to treasure it (:

  • I love the way you've used a jovial pop song to contrast against a video of someone being killed. The contrast is powerful. The jockey later killed himself out of guilt. Sooooo sad :(

  • she was idiot--a complete idiot. she was a militant terrorist. she planted a bomb in a man's house, simply to make a point. she blew it up and could have killed someone. nice. she violently attacked a man, thinking he was the challcellor--and it wasn't even him! she was an unstable, radical fool. then, as a final act of idiocy, stepped in front of a speeding horse! the king's horse! it could have killed him! but, luckily, it was just her that died. good riddance to bad rubbish. tea partier.

  • @Airxson cmon man she was just trying to make a apointment, she also wanted to vote so for the woman she was a hero cause she gave her life, ''femminisme''

  • Brilliant!

  • i think this was one of the sadest things i have seen, i was history class and we were watching a history movie thing, and we saw it in good quality, so i saw esactly how she went down, we were all like, *gasp*, cause it was sad. What she did i thought was very heroic, and i respect her, for talking her life for all woman in the U.S.

  • @iluvthehungergames i think emily davison was british :D

  • @PinkPoppy97 LOL! i was about 2 say around the world, but i decised not 2, haha

  • @iluvthehungergames Emily was English not American. Weather she actually ment to take her own life for the cause or if it was a tragic mistake is up for debate. But her bravery and conviction for votes for women is something that should never be forgotten.

  • Sill see flowers on the spot from time to time.

  • I'm pretty sure that if it wasn't for her, we'd still be frowned upon.

  • I'm all for female empowerment, but her death may to some extent have been in vain, because her cause was sidelined by the emergence of WWI, which brought many social and technological leap-change, as both world wars have done. Also it wasn't a very fair thing to do to the horse or rider, those both could have been killed as well.

  • she was an amazing woman and your video is brilliant! :D

  • lol 2 the song

  • I will not take any stupidness about this. I am not lying, but I am one of her decendants and I am proud that someone in my family did such a great thing. I am not lying. this is the actual truth. I am proud she did it. she changed the way britain think.

  • @hairobubbles So wait she was like you really great grandmother? How old was she when she jumped infront of the horse!? She looked like she was in her twenties, how old was she when she had her first baby!?

  • Hi, i really liked your video! And was wondering if i could use it for a project on feminism? Please :)

  • @hollyp1991 No problem, go ahead!

  • 3:59 Owned

  • This loon was a brain addled terrorist. She had already planted bombs in peoples houses "for her cause". She got what she deserved! BTW ridculous song.

  • Crazy but brave woman.

  • back in the kitchen ho!

  • she got nocked the fuck out!

  • I don't know if she intended to die or not but here are the facts:

    - There was a Suffragette festival that week and Emily Davison was heard saying to a friend when asked where she was going to look in the evening paper and they will find something interesting in it.

    - However she also said that she would be returning after the race

-She was found with two suffragette flags, one pinned into her coat and another tied around her waist

-She had a return train ticket

    (more-no characters left)xx

  • thanks so much for posting this its really helped me with my history project!! =)

  • thanks for this- was really useful for my history GCSE

  • Im not saying she's dumb or anything but sure she knew that she wouldn't be able to pull the reign on the horse at that speed!

  • Emily Wilding didnt just want pull you horse down she was found with a suffargette banner it was ment to go on the horse but she got too close and in the way so you people who say she tried to kill her self she didnt she was only trying to get votes and what happend was awfull i really wish that it didnt happen but it was the only way to get the votes and i am proud for her thank you x

  • hahahahhahaha perfact song for representing the womens rightass llolololo

  • Emily Davison didn't contribute that much to women getting the vote. Women didn't get the vote until after WWI, and it was mainly because of the efforts women made on the home front, even then only women over 30 or over 21 and married were allowed the vote. In fact, there were arguments against women's suffrage made because of Emily Davison's actions, 'if women were that unstable, why should they be allowed to vote.' She was a very courageous woman, but didn't really influence women's suffrage

  • My history teacher showed this video in class, it really sums it up well!

  • A very sad affair but is forgotten that many men did not have the vote in the UK either.

    Some facts:-

Reform Act 1832:- Resulted in 15% males having the vote.

Representation of the People Act 1884:- Increased suffrage but still 40% of males did not have the vote.

Representation of the People Act 1918:- Universal suffrage for males over 21 females over 30.

Representation of the People Act 1928 - Votes for all over 21.

The jockey riding the Kings horse did not have the vote either.

  • good video she didnt commit suicide she was trying to stop the race my grabing the rails off a horse

  • Rite.. the ccomments are wrong on the video.. it was proven that she was trying to attatch a flag to the horse so when it ran past the kings watching box.. the flag would show awareness of the sufragettes..

she had benn practising grabbing horses 2 weeks before the derby.

i dont think she would perposefully die .. and you cant ask her cos shes dead

POWER TO WOMEN. WE GOT THE VOTE ;) X

  • what a stupid deliberate violent act that endangered the lives of the jockey, horse, as well as the spectators. to justify violent acts as meaningful is to also justify the acts of the terrorists during 911. this is seriously a stupid act and shouldn't be heightened to the level of a deed.... she didn't give her life for the suffragette cause, she committed suicide.

I'm all for equal rights, but do we really need to get violent to make our voice heard? only the impatient sociopath does.

  • @HackHunters

haha. fuck off. how else we people gunna listen.. the suffergists or sufferagettes.. SUFFERAGETTES ALL THE WAY!

she did not even commit suicide.. you obvs havent studied it.!

she had been practising grabbing horses 2 weeks before the derby! .. therefore it is an intentional death!

    SUCK OUT FAM!

IF IT WASNT FOR THOSE PEOPLE WOMEN WOULDNT HAVE THE FUCKING VOTE!

  • @HannahBabeyyxxx suicide IS intentional, so you're right it was intentional.

You seriously think women wouldn't be voting today if it wasn't for Davison?

Not to discredit your upload and passion for freedoms I too would fight for everyone's right, but there's a difference when someone acts alone or in a group who feels justified in killing themselves, others or whatever destruction they cause as being justified by what they alone believe in. There's no justification for violence.

  • @HannahBabeyyxxx you are right so right thank you fro posting this she was the most brave woman i have ever herd of she was making a point people was not listing she didnt meant to die she just tried to get the vote SUFFARGETTES ALL TH

    THE WAYY BABY 1!

  • 4:01 OWNED

  • she was a serious women!

  • A brave. tragic moment of history that managed to get captured on film.

  • i know someone who is related to her she is his great great great auntie and hes my bv teacher richard davison.

  • slow motion please.... can't really see shit

  • hey can i use this video in my history project please :D it really sums up perfectly what i wanted to say thanks izzy xx

  • @dabizzy Yes you can!

  • @worcesterjonny Can I use this for my history project pleease?

  • @laagachunarimeindaag No problem - go ahead!

  • @worcesterjonny Thsnk you soo much!

  • Well Done! Sister Suffragette!

  • Good video, good footage, it has various analogies of the event, which keeps it from being biased. I believe myself, that she was intending to become a martyr but this could be argued as much in the other direction. I believe this because of the sewing within her jacket bearing the colours of the suffragette’s representations, but this could be argued again as her just wanting to be noticed and not killed.

  • That was stupid, thank god the horse didnt have to be put down, only bruised shins.

  • you guys she wasnt suposed to go home she hasd as return train ticket in her pocket !!!!!!

  • she died for the women of today...i feel proud.

  • she really is an idiot, you don't need violence for peace or rights, you only have to wait, if anyone who gives me a thumbs down, go to the devil

  • I recall recently one of the Spice Girls saying how she thought they were the modern suffragettes. Oh, so they were tortured in prison and made to shit in a bucket!

  • I find it hard to believe that people can judge many years later about the rights and wrongs on this with so much conviction.

However, I'll tell you this and this is a fact. Social justice has never been won in the history of mankind without a struggle. They never give it freely.

  • Notice how when she was hit the first people went to see if the rider was OK rather than Emily.

  • wow i didnt no there was footage of it, thanks.. its so amazing that it was caught on camera x

  • Before everybody gets too romantic about Emily Davison, remember that this episode did absolutely nothing to help her cause and in fact many of her colleagues in the movement disowned what she did. Also spare a thought for the poor jockey, who never did anybody any harm but was so haunted by what happened he committed suicide because of it many years later. Yeah, well done, Emily.

  • I have to do a project on the suffragettes, you just gave me a great idea for a page or two. thanks.

  • "Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves"? Good job - I wouldn't want to try and stop a racehorse bearing down on me at 45 mph even if they asked me to.

  • I'm Emily's Great niece and i'm so proud to be related to her! She was so brave and EVERY woman should feel blessed by what she has done for them.

I visited her grave today and atleast 100 people were there in morpeth, laying flowers and paying thier respects.

    Thank you and I'm so proud Auntie Emily!! :) x x x

    I love you x x x

  • @LAUR3NC33 hi there. i'm related to her to. i think i'm her cousin or her niece. could you please tell me how you are related to her. i want to find out as much as i can :)

  • I don't know how anyone who sees this can take their vote for granted. Thank you Emily. I don't know if you meant to die, but you were willing to. For me. I live in your legacy; the world you died for.

  • You lot... why are you so against women? Makes me sick. What's done is done, so LIVE WITH IT.

  • Some of you really need to think, this woman was really passionate about her movement

she was not dumb, its like someone going to afghanistan to fight for you

This woman was a hero to the womens campaign to vote she is in fact not "dumb"

to thousands of women she was the fuel that kept their campaign going

weather she intended to kill herself, she was there to protest, weather to die for maximum publicity or to pin the suffragette

colours, all british women should thank this couragous human

  • ahah YOU ARE SUCH A FUCKIN FAKE! you guys on here try to be youtube bullies, but the fucking fact is that you have NO self confidence!Anyways, I don't give a flying fuck what you say to this, your just some random ass lonely ass hole. bye..

  • shut the hell up, I'm done with you...

    Peace.

  • yeah fuck off you dumb bitch

  • @jessicakennon

i aggree widd thiss <3 xx

  • @godfatherliam she was dumb, she wasn't even trying to get hit she was just trying to put a pro suffragette poster on a moving horse...that was in the middle of a race.

the modern day equivalent of trying to stick a poster on an F1/nascar car while its in mid race.

if anyone were to do that i'm sure you'd agree that they were stupid.

  • @Arthurmax180 WELL WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF PEOPLE WERE NOT GIVING YOU A RIGHT OMG SHE WAS STANDING UP FOR HER SELF OK I BET YOU MIGHT EVEN OF DONE THE SAME SO JUST GO READ UP OUT IT OK YOU KNOW WHAT UR DUMB FOR NOT KNOWING WHAT SHE REALLY WANTED TO DO IT WENT WRONG OK JUST LET HER REST IN PEACE SHE WAS MAKING A POINT BUT YOU DONT GET WHY ! OK

  • @princessAmieebiber that's not what i'm saying DR ALLCAPS all i'm saying is that however you look at it.

    1.she didn't intend to die.

    2. she ran out in front of a horse because she was trying to stick a poster on it.

3.if her intent wasn't to die and she died through her own stupidity she's still stupid.

i'm not saying shes stupid because of her beliefs i'm saying that she's stupid because she ran on to a horsetrack in front of speeding horses and expected to survive.

  • @godfatherliam im sure she could have done something less..... painful?

  • @godfatherliam You forgot to mention she was a terrorist bomber also. Thank her? BTW it is "whether" not weather. Try English next time.

  • @godfatherliam nice one .Today is pancake day and womans day,it should be emily day in honour

  • She was a fucking dumbass

  • Common Sence not to run out on a fucking race course to pin a flag on a horse.

  • the jockey and horse survived - the horse actually made a full recovery and continued racing.

  • silly cow

  • we r doing this in history, she tried to pin suffragette pins on the horse, and the jockey said she tried to pull the reins.she had return tickets to her hometown, and a ticket to a suffragette meeting, and she had already acted this scene at her hometown. a source said that she had a smile on her face, and she was absorbed in the moment. but no one knows whether she did it for women in an act of suicide, or whether she though it would not injure her. amazing woman.

  • same. she was trying to pin the banner on but expected she might die.

  • well you can see she waited for the other horses to go past, spotted the kings horse and just stepped in front of it, its clear she was aiming to do something bad and make a scene.

  • mite not av committed suicide

she had banners in er pocket tht they found on her body she might have been trying to pin thm on the horse

  • she also had a retern ticket home in her pocket

  • same here

  • saw this in class today

  • doing it TO themselves on this occasion....silly cow planted a bomb in the PM's house a few weeks earlier

  • votes for women , men were idiots not letting women have the vote.

  • yeah. they found her shoe there

  • she put other peoples lives in danger.....silly cow as far as i'm concerned

  • THAT WAS GREAT

  • u fucking IDIOT have some bloody respect, she died for women, u TWAT

  • she wasnt trying to die you idiot

  • Sounds like someone punched you in your 'third eye' pretentious cock.

  • dude what was that suppose to be ... the horse was well naughty :) ran over her

  • that horse pwned her

  • the horse was shot because it was so badly crippled and the jockey commited suicide in 1940s or sumthing and he said that he kept getting the image of her face before he hit her over and over and over again in his head

    x

  • the horse survived :P

  • broken leg...had to be shot =[ stupid bitch

  • really. we were doing research on this in school and it all said the horse survived afterwards:S

  • well it did but obv was no good for racing after so it had to be shot.

  • nufcvlogs could you be more of a dopey fcuker? the King's horse Anmer made a full recovery and made a return to racing dip$h!t

  • yeah but she also threw herself down an iron staircase in protest - i think she didn't commit suicide but she didn't care if she lived or she died.

  • poor woman fucking food killed her

  • emily davison was my nan's cousin,im so proud of everything she put herself through so we can vote and (attempt) to be equal.

  • she also bought a ticket for a suffragette dance so it deffinately wasnt a suicide attempt

  • been reading wikipedia have we?

  • I have :)

  • thing is theres no evidence of her pinnign stuff to horses, its s theory

  • she would have anticipated her arrest which would be why she didnt get a return, because she wouldnt have been able to go near Amner (the kings horse) because it could have been trying to jeopordise his chances of winning.

  • it may seem as if this could have been an accident but ask yourself this......... why had she not bought a return train ticket that day?.......if you dont believe this search it on the internet, she may not of anticipated her death but at least her arrest

  • also...to back you up...she made plans in her diary for the following week.

  • It appears that she made a terrible mistake.

  • ive been doin this in history she was going too pin a banner too the horse because she had been seen stopping horses and pinnign things too them

  • we've been doing this in history at school. it was accidental. she had been practicing putting rosettes on horses before the race. but thanks to her we got the vote and will vote when im 18 just for her because she gave up her live for our vote!

  • I'd say the role women played in the Great War contributed more to women receiving the vote. But, without people like Emily then perhaps women wouldn't have been given suffrage. So yeah I agree. =P

  • you don't walk into the path of a galloping horse,& expect to escape uninjured,-so it was no accident,she should've waited for the war[1914]-& demanded to fight in the trenches,-then she would have earned the right to be equal to men;

  • the poor horse...

  • So, what happened to the horse?

  • According to wikipedia the horse was fine and continued racing after this. The jockey suffered concussion but returned to racing.

  • Next time atleast put in some of your own words instead of copying and pasting from a web site

  • i was told that all she wanted to do was to attatch a suffragette flyer to the kings horse so it would gallop up the finishing straight with the banner plastered on it. she has just planned to attatch it to the horse while it passed, however she misjudged the spped that a derby horse actually goes and ended up being trampled. she was seen practising near her home leading up to the event and she also had a return ticked in her handbag. she did not set out to intentionally kill herself.

  • Comment removed

  • she did not mean to die i only know this because i know her descendant.

  • Actually, as a specialist in this area, there was a return train ticket in Miss Davison's purse, suggesting that she was planning to go home after the Derby race.

  • to whoever made this video, i appreciate what you've done, but i am a historian, and we know she did do this intentionaly, but the real argument is, if she wanted to get run over by the horse, or just stop it, as this would be a great act of symbolism by showing that a "mear woman" could stop the kings horse, or otherwise what is representing the king, and just an fyi, to demonstrate how much women were seen as second class citizens, look at how many people go to help the jocky, compared to her.

  • Hmm I've always been told that she was trying to attach a suffragette flyer to the horse, not commit suicide. That way it would cross the finishing line literally flying the suffragette flag. Guess we'll never know...

  • Well......she actually dies 4 days later in hospital......so there, stupid description

  • OOooooooooooohhhh!!!

    Painful...

If I ever wanna commit suicide, I'd rather play Russian roulette.

  • Thundercats own!

  • Hmmmm...missed that historical journal. Thanks for the update! (my life is now complete...)

  • I am guessing you are a man as that is such an ignorant omment to make. What this woman did for women's rights is something I am sure you will never even begin to understand or indeed want to

  • get a grip of yourself darling

  • How about you get a life and a job, and stop being so sexist.

  • she wasnt a martyr, she didnt plan to be killed as she had a return ticket and had other things planned for later that day.

She was also seen near her house practicing stopping horses.

  • wikipedia?
