  • Just beautiful, beautiful music - she's amazing :))

  • Shes awesome anything she sings.

  • Does anybody recognize this song to be written in the Phrygian mode?

  • @PghToppCatt aeolian

  • fantastic, amazing, simply wonderful

  • simplement genial

  • If you doubt the existence of your soul, listen to Loreena McKennitt. That is proof enough for the existence of our soul and a Divine source behind it!

  • Commenting on gane1007's statement...I believe your memory holds true. The Celts are but a dim shadow of their historical selves, holed up in the craggy backwaters of the British Isles and the windy shores of Brittany. A long mystically beautiful shadow they cast, though; Ms McKennitt being therein.

  • @dblair1258

If you look at wikipedia you will see where the Celts truly lived and you will see how many people are searching for their own roots and why.

  • @dblair1258 might try going to north west ireland and telling that to a celt; if you know nothing else, know this, we are all heading in the same direction, to find our true existance. when that happens we'll know that we are all the same, spirits having an earthly experience.

  • This woman has the map of the world in her soul and work....amazing

  • just cant pick favorite songs with Loreena lovely music,

  • read and understand all poetry;religions;and cultures in our world, for they are puzzle pieces to the bigger picture;like the lady says;"and the truth will set you free." thank you again mylady.

  • If memory serves (not that I'm that old) pre-Iron-age Europe was mostly Celtic lands, from Celto-Iberia to parts of Asia Minor, (later Galicia in what is now Turkey). They challenged the Germanic tribes to the north, the ancient Ionians of Greece and helped forge Rome in the crucible of war when Brennus sacked Rome in the 4th century bc. Their culture is now relegated to the western fringes of their former domain with their ancient voices becoming distilled and quieted by globalism.

  • joseph erdem dedektif

  • And thank you for putting her music on the 'Tube

  • A very nice video for a wonderful song!

  • @GamerBritannia - Hahaha, you're right about the Highwayman, that one is a poem by "Alfred Noyes". I don't know how that happened either!

  • @GamerBritannia - Where did you get the information that the lyrics were by an englishman? Everywhere I have read, Loreena wrote the lyrics of "Beneath A Phrygian Sky".

  • @GamerBritannia

Yes... I understand that and it was not my intent to claim that ALL of her music is Celtic with a Middle Eastern feel. Many of her pieces have that feel because of the instruments used. You may also be familiar with the fact that Middle Eastern instruments were common in England..ie. European trade with the Middle and Far East...the Crusades, etc. Ms. McKennitt makes use of many authentic instruments from that time period. So... her music has many "flavours".

  • The indie goddess has the angelic vox !

  • I saw her in Salt Lake on her last North American tour. Had waited 12 years to see her live it was more than worth the wait If she performs within 500 miles of wherever you're at just go I promise you it will be worth it She's a singular talent best female vocalist since Annie Haslam of Renaissance

  • I have to thank one of my seniors who send her song, "The Gates of Istanbul" to me, otherwise I might never know about Loreena McKennitt. Her voice is very beautiful. She's one of the greatest artists ever for me!

  • heard a buch of loreena's songs and all i have to say is no one with such an awesome voice is real she must be a ghost

  • If there be only one video, let it be this. Loreena's unique, like Sarah McLachlan, Liona Boyd, Joni Mitchell, K.D. Lang, and Amanda Marshall. Of each, there can be only one.

  • @PercivalTheSeeker Um, actually, a lot of those Disney girls HAVE been smoking pot. But maybe you forgot that, since your brain is a little befuddled. LOL... Lighten up, dude. I thought you guys were supposed to be mellow.

  • really awesome song :) been listening to Loreena McKennitt for ages and ages, love her music xx

  • Somehow, the tune sounds Chinese to me!

  • @612Matthew You´re Chinese!

  • Phrygia now places at southern part of Bulgaria. or so somewhere about/

And Phrygia doesnt matter at all , imho. It could other place.

And to beran1912KSK : Cappadocia now is the northern part of Turkey (to Black Sea shore), quite different place. Isn't it?

  • This song reminds me so much of Noria.

  • Comment removed

  • I find it funny that people look down on potheads or drug users in general and think that we can't appreciate good music. I'm a drug user and I love Loreena Mckennit, she takes me to places that drugs cant.

  • omg Cappadocia.. what a mystique place

  • when lyrics, voice and music align in perennial harmony, it's the most spellbinding thing to the human soul. It carries the visage of a promise to which we have always yearned; and we feel, rightly, that we are more than just the cynical or scientific nihilism that's so popular...

  • What a wonderful voice I have only just discovered this talented lady and have been listening today for hours.

  • @folyjon1 Yeeep! She's unbelivable/ And this song is of her best and most powerfull. It's about us , if we still have something of our Cristian roots . Our shame and our power in one bunch...

  • What a wonderful voice I have only just discovered this talented lady and have been listening today for hours

  • It's so beautiful

  • How does she do it?!?

Every song I've heard from her is a masterpiece!

The woman could sing a phone book and still impress me.

    xD

  • If you can really understand her,you can see that Her being perfect is not about her Nation or anchestors.God sometimes give us such relieves to make this world more beareable. As being 17 Feb. born someone I can tell a lot about her.I woul like to ask her one thing though; Does she satisfied for for her great work and being able to realize her potential? or does she think she has just started to learn what she can capable of? I guess its not coincidence most great music makers are Aquarius.

  • por favor me informem se esta musica tem em video- em algum DVD da Loreena grata sonia

  • beautiful nice video.

  • How wonderful you are Loreena! You are too good to be true... you're like a magical creature from some other world and time. Thank you for tapping on the artist and magician and child and the pure in us!

  • Oooh, she's amazing. This is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard.

  • Just...Amazing!

  • Actually, if you read up on Ms. McKennitt, you'll find that she has been researching and learning about ancient Celtic influences in Europe. Her studies have brought her to the middle east...the furthest reaches of Celtic influence. Phrygia is in Turkey. While her music often has a Middle Eastern "feel" to it, it ultimately rooted Celtic culture. She is a Canadian of Irish/Scottish decent...

Loreena McKennitt is an amazing artist, whose music takes me places I have never been. She's awesome.

  • I see waht you mwena, but in a way middl eastern msuic and celtic msuic alwayds had some similarities in the way they sound. Loreen i think signs new age msuci,w hcih means msuic frome evry palce of the world classical and folk kinds... Obviously most of her work has to do with celts, but this could be either becasue of her origins or more likely(or a least I htink so) becasue of the wide vareity of cletic folk music.

  • you guys! That's not irish.. Loreena as you have noticed goes around the world and take characteristics of the place traditional music and culture..Ancient muse is based on Ancient Greece and and all the sea coasts greek people had habited at that time...And maybe other ancient cultures. And in the latest traditional music and folk developed..Do you see the wall image that is byzantine in 1.52 minutes?

  • Comment removed

  • yes. meetings. are like love in a long marriage

  • Ms. McKennitt is Canadian, originally from Morden, Manitoba but living in Stratford, Ontario...the home of Quinlan Road.

This song is one of my favourites.... speaks to the soul...has a lot to say if you are listening.

  • I think this is the best Lorreena video I've seen. It's beautiful. Thank you so much! Peace - Ruthie

  • this women is INCREDIBLE

  • Is this an Irish accent or Scottish?

  • @lickmetender She is Canadian. Probably from one of the French speaking territories so she has that soft accent.

  • @lickmetender It's Irish.

  • @Seesfar1 Doesn't sound that Irish to me

  • i could listen to this woman sing forever

  • At times I wonder if she can "see" things that we can't...or simply refuse to.

  • I thought enya gave me the shivers, until I found loreena.

  • i love this song and siger so much

you did well to upload it

    thx...........

  • ♪♫♥ !

  • The Album is called An Ancient Muse. This track is inspired.

Another great Canadian female singer Joni Mitchell says that most modern music should be called IC because the MUSE is missing.

Words fail me to describe Loreena McKennitt I just love this woman.

  • This is what I call: PERFECT.

    101/100

  • Both the enchanting seduction of her voice, the imagery and the message are overwhelming and moving. My favorite of her works to date. Thank you for your work in putting this together for the eyes and ears of the world.

  • Wonderful!

  • Check out,,,ARTESIA-(Lassitude)

  • What font did you use?

  • I don't really remember, but I think it was "Anke Calligraphic". It can be easily found on dafont website in the calligraphie section. :)

  • @pasbete The background image at 1:34 where did you get that?the one with the ancient writhing s?

  • Our Love Must Make Us Strong.--a Prayer/Meditation to Haiti

  • What 1niutek said....plus one. I love Loreena Mckennitt and all the superb musicians that work with her. This song, from the Ancient Muse CD, I liked to begin with...now that I have her Mediterranian Odyssey CD, I like it even more. Love it, is more like it...the live version is incredible on this CD. Highly recommended.

  • I Love Loreena and Caroline lovell.

  • Beautiful! So much truth in one song!

  • Saw Loreena perform this song during her Ancient Muse Tour last year in Asheville. Most of the audience sat in stunned silence, as if they had not heard the song before ....it was beautiful.....and I smiled. As Loreena said, "this song is rumination on how, over time and space, our basic needs as human beings seem to have remained the same: a need for identity, for belonging, for liberty, for spiritual engagement, for ways to resolve conflicts of interest". How true!!

  • Gauls overran the eastern part of Phrygia which became part of Galatia. The former capital of Gordium was captured and destroyed by the Gauls soon afterwards and disappeared from history. In imperial times, only a small village existed on the site, and, in 188 BC, the remnant of Phrygia came under control of Pergamon. In 133 BC, western Phrygia passed to Rome.

  • An angel flew to close to the ground one night, became infatuated with her love and chose to jump. Here is her voice!

  • Just keep playing this round & round at the moment, as it relects the mood I am currently in.

    Beautiful music. 5*

  • This is a great album! I like this song and that opening song out of her albums. She's in one of my top faves w/ hayley westenra, enya, and celtic women. wish they could all go on tour together!

  • Stunning.

  • About this song: subtle and strong, strong and subtle !

She is very talented musician indeed !

  • I have always been a big fan of Lorenna and her use of spiritual references....but this song by far hits me harder than any of her others. Beautiful....so much so I could cry tears of compassion.

  • Awesome! Incredibly beautiful & incredibly talented as well ....

  • It's great music ;) I love this song ;)

  • wow

  • Favorite Loreena McKennitt !!!!!!!

  • Agree, but this song remind me Bonny Swans

  • It's on An Ancient Muse, isn't it?

That's why most of the imagery in the video is in that blue style, it's from the album contents, isn't it?

  • yes you`re right!

check out the information on the right....

  • I was just replying to earlier questions, but ty anyway.

    :)

  • Well five disagree with my last comment - cannot think why perhaps I have upset them in the past, still love this song and her. Pity the album is so hard to get hold of.

  • how i love this song, and how i love Loreena...she saves me from this harmful life,,

  • Voice of an Angel and the face to go with it.

  • Have had people describe her as "enya music"........how dare they describe her as commercial music! this music is from the heart, both from Loreena and the musicians.......all top class!

  • 100% agree.

  • Favorite LM song!!

  • song deserves an awesome music video

  • Wisdom overtaking beauty....

Goddess... I have no more words.

The ancient stones do tell us...

and love shall make us strong...

  • "...these ancient stones will tell us

our love must make us strong...." I know a place where the ancient cobbles hold rich treasure in the form of memories and promises of the future.. M

  • Well I consider her beautiful in every respect for me she is the Goddess and why oh why do others have to judge the book by it's cover. What the luckiest man her fiance must have been cannot be doubted. She is beyond compare.

  • LM is lucky to have fans who are so touched by her work and express it so lovingly!

    cheers....

  • Alas, you're right, sylvanllewelyn. She is a remarkable talent, but unlike far lesser talents, she's not a product. She doesn't look like the product assembly line at DisneyCo, so she will never have the fan base of some 16 year old pothead who has to be electronically enhanced to even carry a tune.

  • 462,000 views. Not bad without all those fans. I love her physical appearance and I like to believe she sings from the depths of her soul. Not just to feed herself, but to nourish our souls as well.

  • i beg to differ! whilst i agree with what you say in general, the first time i ever heard loreena was in a barnes and noble store when i was 15...i was hooked since then! then again, i do consider my taste to be classy as opposed to the present mainstream trash they call music. loreena IS queen!

  • I liked her when I was a 16 year old pothead. Don't be discriminatin'! : P

  • @ericinwisconsin I couldn't put it better myself.

  • I don't see how being a "pothead" has anything to do with the cookie cutter crap they are pushing today...I know many potheads that enjoy Loreena's music, myself included. It is unfortunate that people feel the need to categorize others in such a way. Maybe you should try smoking a joint and listening to music before you pass such a negative judgement...I can guarantee that those rolling off the assembly line at walt disney and Co would probably benefit from a little altered consciousness!!

  • @ericinwisconsin Amen mate.

  • She was born to become a legend, an illusion whenever she's here or gone.

A soul, marking with sounds, and images, her passage through our world... Magician .... she's that kind of magician who never reveals her secrets ... filling our souls with dreams...

    Lovelly, thanks...

    favorited, lol

  • Nice I really like Loreena M she was a part of my child hood she has a nice voice <3

  • thanks for the music - from brazil...jul 09

  • Still Loreena has some of the best music i have heard and i have heard lots of music......another good song of hers is called never ending road :)

  • Its not new age its old world.....by the way,

Loreena McKennitt is pagan or wicca.

  • Not really, she has few songs that she mentions Jesus christ as a lord and all :P

  • she sing the best new age music ever !!

  • sooooo wonderful! <3

  • Ther is so much legendary material to be put on fiilm... Eight to twelve more films on Tolkien material to start with.. Loreena will not be ignored, I can tell you that.

  • excellent visual and musical video treat! Thank You for uploading such a treasure rendition. Wonderful - and as others said it before, eerie, calming, utterly beautiful, she's pulls us all into her dreamy magic land and time!

    Bless you, Kiki

  • I love Phrygia (Anatolia)

  • eerie and beautiful

  • Lord of the rings eat your heart out...

  • she makes you believe in fairies and elves and dragons. it makes my heart want to leap out of my chest, and gives me a strange desire to wield magic.

  • @injunshepp dragons and elves are too fairy. Life is not quite a Tolkien dreams. Whatever good they are.

Look , Joan Rouling has come on that territory alredy. Is she the last newcomer? And sombody's never left us. And all we have a freedom to choose .

For example, you may had been chosen of brashing your teeth. A nd become healthy. So you can decide ... It's better if I shut up

  • @Madved07 Joan Rouling?? do you mean Joanne Rowling? If not, who is Joan Rouling?

  • @takeflight117 well bro you are right. "Joanne Rowling" - it was stupid enough writing her name as I here in my language speling

  • Comment removed

  • @takeflight117 lol, thanks

  • Soooo beautiful \m/

  • Powerful and beautiful. Past, present and future, all in one song. 5/5

  • gênia

  • simply marvellous state of the art piece!...

  • I've just rediscovered her, after looking for some new bands that I might like.

After listening to a lot of new stuff that wasn't really my style, I thought my ears could need some calm songs from a beautiful voice.

I should still have the Book of Secrets CD, hope it isn't too scratched. O_o

  • If you are looking for new beautiful voices have you listened to Holly Kirby (Alpet07)'s version of Dante's Prayer?

  • After I told my dad I liked Enya he made me listen to Loreena. I hated her at first, but now I like her. BONNIE SWANS AND CARRIBEAN BLUE, I LOVE YOU!!!

  • LOL, those 'old fellas' kind of know a bit after all.... and as you get older, you'll see how much smarter they get. In fact, by the time you're forty, he'll be a genius!

  • ..and the real benefit of getting older is that there is always something new to discover in music with your growing appreciation! ;-)

  • She has made the difference. These are the real meaning of songs. Music of imagination !! Now come the newest path of music for globalization people. Thanks for your wonderful style, Loreena.

  • Angels walk among us. Loreena McKennitt is one of them.

  • beautiful song, altough it sounds like "the bonny swans"...

  • Para relajarse y evadirse es preciosa.
