But as many have pointed out, the ending shows the sword in the position that Luke carries it and that it is also left-handed. Asch was supposedly right-handed. Why was the replica left-handed but the original right? One thought would be that Asch was also left-handed but when he changed his name to Asch, he adapted a right-handed fighting style. It's just a guess... sorry, I'm putting way too much thought into this. :P

Anyways, I once asked this question a while ago... Here's what he wrote to me.

It's just a difference Luke and Asch share. Even though they're perfect isofons, they share a lot of differences.

Luke's hair tips are blonde, while Asch's are black. Luke's outfit is comprised of white and gold while Asch's are black and silver. Luke's left-handed, Asch is right-handed. Luke changes drastically during the course of the game, Asch remains pretty much the same.

Regardless, Luke's personality is obviously the dominant one, as he had previously mentioned having felt a "warm light" descend into him when Asch passed away (in a skit with Jade) in addition to him being left handed on his return. Not to mention Jade's curious smile, implying he did get the result he had hoped for.

I don't see either of them as dominant. Neither the replica Luke nor Asch really exist anymore. They're both just a single Luke. Perfect isofons eventually become one through the "big bang."

I do very much wonder what that would be like, though. Does Luke have both the replica Luke's and Asch's memories? If so, would he remember what Asch's death was like?

If you noticed at the end when Asch's body drops on top of the bubble around Luke as he is descending and after they free Lorelei, Asch's hand twitches as Luke's body fades away. What I think is since Asch's fonons had already melded together with Luke's that the both of them were granted another life through Asch's body.

I am wondering if this has something to do with this ending. The fact that the others mentioned that it was Luke's "coming of age" celebration means that it would have been his 20th birthday, right? I'm not sure what the time line is in the game, but Luke/Asch start out at age 17. Is this ending 3 years later, or...?

There was a side-quest where you'd speak to the yellow Cheagle that your group save from Ortion Caverns named Star. Jade approaches Star and asks her/him what happened to the other "him/her" and s/he wasn't sure, although s/he thinks the replica died. The original Star had also temporarily "died" as well, but mentioned something about being filled with a warm light and came back to life. (cont)

A great ending to a great game. Altho i would have added one thing to the end. After luke says "and also... i promised somone..." i would have made a scene of tear and luke holding each other, then luke looks down at tear and says "i love you too." then kisses her. That would have been a perfect ending.

The endings to the Tales of games are the only things that have ever been able to bring a tear from my eye. They are beautiful stories with wonderful endings that leave you in both sadness and joy. I can only wish this series adopted better into the U.S.

I also think it's Luke too. For one, as you've already stated, the Key of Lorelei is positioned for a left handed person. Secondly, Asch already died in Eldrant, transferring his power to Luke. Thirdly, I'm pretty sure the promise he references is the promise to "come home".
