If the vets were more affordable , maybe just maybe we wouldn't have so many animals running around without homes and left at the side of the road. I have 6 rescue cats ,and a lab. Vets could maybe give discounts for people who do want to "fix" their pets. Help control the pet population. I hate seeing animals wondering around with no place to go.. It saddens me.
Yes there are plenty of cats that need rescued but breeders tend to keep old blood lines alive. We need pure breeds to keep the population of cats healthy. Or we have natural inbreeding going on. I personaly have resued seven cats and own one pure breed Bengal that was a bit of a rescue. I still can not fathom why some one would pay $1,800 for a kitten just to abuse, hit, and starve them. But thats what happened to him. Go rescue cats but also don't hate on breeders for what they do ok.
Every new litter means more death in shelters. They are adorable but buying promotes breeding and it is immoral to breed while millions (or even one) are on death row simply because they can't find homes. Go get a scruffy baby from the humane society. You will love him just as much and vice versa.
@catherine1707 It's a long standing issue. Reputable breeders will select cats of a certain breed that fits the standards in order to continue the breed as it is ment to be. These Pedigree cats, do fetch a higher price, but the goal of the breeder is to uphold the breed standard, and possibly make a living. However, there are breeders which are less reputable who don't care about the breed standard and are only in it to make money and we call those back-yard-breeders. ...(cont)

A good breeder usually participates in cat shows to establish a good blood line for the future kittens, and will only breed a king or queen to another cat with established lines, or to one of good potential. They are careful that unwanted qualities aren't present in the cats (like knotted tails, or crossed eyes) that they are using to breed.

I have a bengal and adopting is good, but someones gonna buy the kitten one way or the other. Some people want pure breds that they can be sure where it came from. My cat is soooo much different than a stray picked up by animal control. I adpoted twice and the cat never worked out. Now I have one I can't imagine my life without. That personality comes from being handled and taken care of since birth! I LOVE my bengal
