  • You guys don't seem to know what an advertisement is supposed to do.

  • IN Fact : Pc is more Entertaiment ...why in this stupid comerrcial ,Pc adopt a classic suit..it's contradictory

  • @raran44

No, no. I don't believe so.

  • still there over priced :P

    bit there good

  • WHERE DID THEY GET THOSE AWESOME CARDBOARD BOXES?!?!?!

  • As a Mac user, I'd like to challenge the "can't play games" argument. On Macs is the app store. In the App store are games. So, technically, YES, you can play games on a Mac, only you have to pay for it in the APP Store, not buy the disc at a store. My friend, for example (also on a Mac), has Grand Theft Auto.

  • @raran44

Erm. I hope that's sarcasm I hear in your post. Grand Theft Auto? I suppose next you will mention Source-engine games, the Call of Duty MW franchise, and so on?

It would be best not to pick games built on 7-year old graphics engines, and those stripped down for gaming console optimization, later to be ported to the computer platform. The Mac gaming benchmarks have been coming in for years, and they're always a colossal letdown.

  • @MaestroDraven you've completely missed my point.

  • I love the humor but how many games are for mac,how many coding engines and how many gaming macs are there. Get a pc amd mac

  • Oh. GET A MAC.

  • why choose when you can have both like me :) ?

  • Ha! HAHA HAAHAHAHAHAAAAAAHHAHAAAAAA! A Mac, superior to a PC? Preposterous!

  • I want this video on my VS2 phone.

  • I want this video on my VS2 phone.

  • I want this video on my VS2 phone.

  • Anyone who has a mac Wana play cod o wait that's. Right

  • Ive used mac since macintosh classic days. And have been an avid mac user till today. At work at the bank i use windows as i need excel word ppt. At home back to my mac. If u ask me, i wish at work i could cont using a mac as mac runs excel word and ppt too. games? Nah dun really waste my time on games. Pc sux? Not really.. Its just boring.

  • And besides, I would still dedicate 80% of my time on the Mac OS X, because it is that fucking awesome. My dad's girlfriend (my future stepmother - a wonderful caring soul) showed me her old MacBook (about 2,5 years old) working faster than my recent Sony Vaio, and that's because I have WAY higher specs. The operating system makes all the difference. I've been converted. I'm buying a Mac, nuff said.

  • @SamHetfieldProducts

If what you're saying is true, then 12-Core Mac Pros wouldn't be getting beaten to death by SR-2 Classified PC builds that cost up to $3000 less. Apple benchmarks Macs against other Macs for a reason: because every third party that pits them against PCs shows the PC winning hands down, for way less money. Yours is probably a case of a buggered OS. You only think the Macbook runs faster, but you're wrong.

  • I would say that Mac's sucks for gaming (and they do), but half of the games I play are Mac-compatible, such as Blizzard games, and the other half are MMOs, or just low-graphic demanding games, so I wouldn't have too much problem installing a few gigs of Windows on it (preferentially Windows XP).

I know it's pretty much stupid installing Windows on the Mac, but I'd do it anyway. Besides, I would have many other programs Windows-only compatible, so it's a bit forgivable.

  • I try not to trip over my laptop cable. Havn't da a problem yet.

  • is this 180p?

  • i was using my mac today, and i picked up my computer and walked away, forgetting that the power cable was plugged in, and it just stuck there, it didnt just pop off

  • Mac OS = Windows...

Come on people. They're both really great brands. I use both a Mac and a Wintel machine in my daily life, and they both serve radically different purposes. Stop bickering and deal with the fact that other people bought a different brand computer than you.

And I bet half of you "PC supporters" have never actually used a Mac in your life...

  • Mac = anorexic

    PC = voluptuous

  • you do realize that the fact that the rest is other boxes is cause you have all the variety of the world in your hands? the fact that he has to download drivers is cause windows is everywhere and not just stupid apple crap?

  • for the first the PC was a desktop duh!

  • Apple suck i pay x2 price of a computer with windows -_-

  • 240p, we meet again

  • mac is just better. enough said.

  • lets make an commercial how to play games on mac`s without paying a million dollars

  • Mac forever !

  • 5:27

    LOL

that is just what mac do...

"mac is Amazing, mac is cool!"

mac, al u give is shit. and pc do it better

    PC u're Overwhelming!!!

  • @dark13death so ur saying pc is better?

  • @JoanJettforever

    the top comment:

    PC's will forever rule.

mac is only a little competition... so little

  • apples own pc , pc is a joke, apple is a greater company than pcs

  • @ninjaturtleallday Especially since "PCs" isn't a company and Apple sells PCs.

  • @generischernutzer yeah i know but i mean its greater than all the pcs

  • @ninjaturtleallday There are Macs that are greater than some non-Apple PCs. Then there are non-Apple PCs that are greater than some or all Macs — And it always also depends on what you're planning to do with that computer. We deal with a huge variety here.

  • This video went viral on Nay Pyi Taw

  • Watching this on my PC, with a Mac OS X skin pack.........

  • check out my mac vs pc parody video! i let pc win :D

  • if i get a cent for every pixel in this WHOLE video, i would get about $2,32.5

  • Mac: "Hi, I'm a Mac"

    PC: "And I'm a PC"

    Mac: "Whatch'ya doin PC?"

PC: "Oh, Y'know. Editing Media, special Effects, Photos, Music, playing every game under the sun and moon, netowrking...the usual"

Mac: "B-but I thought I was supposed to do all of that?!"

PC: "Yeah, I got an upgrade. I did mention I'm easily upgradeable, right?"

    Mac: "Uh...."

PC: "Also, I'm only about 2/3 the cost of you"

    Mac: "FUCK ME!"

PC: "I am, right now, in every way."

  • recorded with a mac

  • If I get one cent for every pixel in this whole video, I would get exactly 23 cents

  • Macs are good, but they are busted because of the inadequate price

  • I'm seeing a lot of butthurt Pc fans. I had a huge Mac fatter than the length of my arm and a huge tower, and it ran so fast, pages would load in the blink of an eye. When I had to get rid of it, I bought the thinnest laptop there was with the Microsoft technology. In a record time, it takes 10 seconds to load at its' fastest. Mac wins.

  • @Shia2255 Lol. For a Mac, today, to stand up to the specs of my $1500 laptop, I'd have to drop a minimum of $2300 on a Macbook Pro, or $1700 on an iMac. And neither of them can run the AVERAGE Graphics card that I can run, and only the iMac would have a slightly better screen (in size, but NOT resolution). Only the iMac would have the storage capacity of my PC laptop.

    Mac Wins?

Sir, I call bullshit on your ignorantly placed, yet humorously idiotic, comment.

  • @AndrewDeLong Specs mean nothing to me, only speed.

  • @Shia2255 Um....I don't know how to address that.

Specs and speed are inherently linked. Yes, programming has quite a bit to do with it, but better specs are proven to increase speed.

Speaking as an amateur VFX artist, it wouldn't matter if I were on a Mac or PC, if the specs suck, then I'm (excuse my french) fucked.

Specs on any system equate to speed.

You....you really should care about specs.

  • PC: Hey I'm a PC

    MAC: And I'm a Mac

PC: I can run computer games

MAC: Well can you run IMovie

PC: I could just buy an emulator and here.

MAC grabs gun and kills himself.

  • @14warr I can run an emulator too. Plus I can do a full boot into Windows with official drivers. Honestly tell me that if you had the choice between a Mac and PC with the same specs (CPU,Graphics Card, ect.) you would choose the PC. I would bet my money on the mac just saying.

  • Wait, so a Mac ISN'T a personal computer?

  • Go Mac and PC sucks

  • mac: Hi I'm a mac

    pc: And I'm a PC

Mac: I'm great ad editing every single media you can think of. Oh and I'm shiny

pc: I'm great at everything else

    THE END

  • "Oh, fun we tried that once it was nothing but pain and frustration." Apple lie...PC is the gaming boss. Mac should be saying that line.

"I have to make music and blogs....you were made to stimulate 10 year old brains..." Another Apple lie...what 10 year old "makes movies and blogs"?

"..and a lot of manuals to read." Who reads the computer manual?! Seriously?!

"..like a lot of PCs I have to update my graphics card..." Mac wishes he could get graphics card augmentations. Sucka! Apple...dream on.

  • @RedAnimus Ok, well i just hope you have fun fixing your pc from viruses and updates while i and my mac are checking facebook and talking to my friends.

  • @subzeroroundtheworld

Then it will surprise you to know that Macs are the most vulnerable to viruses, malware and hacking intrusions, then.

  • @MaestroDraven

    Um, no. Sorry.

  • @KikoSavesTheDay

I assume you're referring to my comment about Mac's exploitable, insecure nature? Google the Pwn2Own challenge and read "Enterprise Mac Security: OSX Snow Leopard" (written by Apple network infrastructure employees who have spoken out at Defcon and Black Hat) and it will all become clear to you.

  • @RedAnimus My God! It's almost like these ads were made by Apple..................wait

  • @RedAnimus Oh good for you, you proved four out of about twenty points wrong. Also only good games are supported by macs

  • @mugy7 Is skyrim battle field 3 supported .No .Go crying little mac man.

  • @mugy7

The vast majority of Mac games are Source-based, which was created in 2003 and released to market with Half Life 2 in 2005. Not exactly anything to brag about. Even Starcraft II, which was designed specifically with the Mac in mind, performed miserably on the 2011 27" iMac ($1999), and was only able to clock 28FPS at 1680x1050 on high settings. A $1000 PC leapfrogged it with 112FPS......on ULTRA settings, no less.

  • @RedAnimus No you hate it because macs are more expensive.

  • PC's will forever rule.

  • Comment removed

  • @JoeMakesCoasters of you dont get a pc you cant play skyrim

  • @JoeMakesCoasters no apple will

  • @JoeMakesCoasters mac and pc are the same thing.

  • @JoeMakesCoasters That's a good one

  • Fuck that I'm getting a PC for mah gaming

  • @ObsidianCrafta buy windows seven u can play games on mac coz windows 7 works on mac

  • @briflip1234

Which defeats the purpose of buying a Mac, wouldn't you say?

  • Apple apple apple (Win### 0) (Apple os X Lion 1000000000000000000000000000)

  • @armadaselection

I think the lackluster reviews and horrible reception by 3/4 of the Mac community speaks for itself, don't you?

  • Im staying to mah pc cause most games are 4 pc and i already has an iphone 4 apps sooo :P

  • If you have so much money to waste, "Get a Mac"

  • PC: I'm a PC and I can play hundred of thousands games without any trouble.

Mac: Well...errr... we have small appgames!

  • @Reyson01 I love how every pc fanboy uses that argument, without them realising games run crap on windows as well, if you want to actually game you should use linux.

  • @JordSipsable

Given Linux' inherent instability and poor-performing graphics drivers, I'd say that's a colossal waste of time. I have gamed on both OS's, and Linux, despite its streamlined nature, simply can't game all that well. To date, nobody has created a Linux ATI or Nvidia driver, whether official or open-source, which can compare to gaming on a standard W7 boot. Also, gaming on Windows is absolutely perfect, provided your hardware meets requirements.

  • PC. X

    MAC. √

  • @TheHoeyShow Way to go PC, I see you can multitask. You're watching Tron Legacy and Trolling at the same time.

  • PPFFT This is complete shit.

  • oh come on apple's just diffusing fallacious content now, like mac never lags? and mac never does promos? and mac never has security problems or viruses?

  • @MrHerecomesjohnny no lag no security problems and no viruses.

  • so apple's ENTIRE campaign is just downgrading pc? that's pretty puerile. I mean, it's even a bit playing low isn't it...

  • i like the touhou one the best

  • 

  • PC's are actually good at playing movies i'm watching Tron Legacy right now and it's really good so up your apple.

  • It's funny that lots of people thought MACS are $6000 silly PC's

  • @thewiitry

$5000, then? 12-Core Mac Pros run $5199. An SR-2 Classified PC can be built with the same specs for $3000.

  • 240p we meet again... awesome vid tho

  • Pixelated fun

  • If u own a Mac, you are automatically a graphic designer lololol

  • the last ad is totally awesome

"I feel like I was there"

    :)))))

  • 240p... we meet again...

  • Windows sucks balls, they can keep their viruses and blue screens because I'm a Mac user now :)

P.S. Windows only plus points are more games and its a great virus generator ;)

  • @MBPi78gb266

Read the book "Enterprise Mac Security: OSX Snow Leopard," and research the Pwn2Own contest to learn just how threatened Macs really are to viruses and malware. The only thing keeping the virus list down is Apple's 6% worldwide computer market share. McAfee reported that Mac viruses are expanding at a rate of 10% per month. Per MONTH. As for blue-screens, you've been living in the days of Windows 98 far too long, my friend. Spinning beach ball and kernel panics?

  • @MaestroDraven before i got my Mac, i had a Windows 7 computer and i got blue screens many times before i went "fuck it, I'm not spending anymore money on this piece of shit, I'm switching to Mac".

  • @MBPi78gb266

Well alright, but did you try to figure out what the issue was? Bluescreens on Windows 7 are mostly hardware related. The two main types of things that will give you bluescreens are a faulty hard drive or faulty RAM which cause memory dumps. And no, Apple buys the same HDs and RAM as PC vendors do, so they're no better. But why spend money on a bluescreen issue instead of just doing a fresh re-install of W7 and seeing if that solves it? If not, then it's hardware related.

  • @MBPi78gb266

See what you've essentially done is kill a mosquito using a cannon, instead of a fly swatter. With Apple, you paid through the nose, and there's no guarantee of any inherently better quality. In fact, Apple's history with class action lawsuits has been conveniently hushed up and it's something they don't like talking about. With a PC, any problem you have, I GUARANTEE you can be solved in the space of a day.

  • @MaestroDraven well, i tried reinstalling Windows, swapping the RAM and putting in a new hard-drive but that still didn't solve it.

  • @MBPi78gb266

Sounds very weird. Custom built or store-bought?

  • @MaestroDraven Store bought, it was a Packard Bell.

  • @MBPi78gb266

Packard Bell??? I didn't even realize they were still making computers! You sure you don't mean Hewlett-Packard? (HP?)

  • @MaestroDraven yeah, they still make them (but only in Europe i think). and it was definitely a Packard Bell :)

  • @MBPi78gb266

I wasn't aware of that! But my best advice.....should you go down the PC route again in your life, is to buy a custom-built machine. If you don't build one yourself than there are tons of third-party companies that do it, and do it well. I'm looking at it from my perspective and the fact that I've never had a PC ever give me significant trouble (provided I owned it from the start). More freedom on the PC means more potential for trouble, but that can be countered easily.

  • @MaestroDraven "With a PC, any problem you have, I GUARANTEE you can be solved in the space of a day."

Well, that's not really true. OEM PC's have tremendous hardware issues from time to time, model to model. It just doesn't make the news because people are use to those things and there's not really an expectation for excellence.

In terms of handling issues, Apple actually addresses their issues incredibly fast considering that some companies take years before addressing complaints (xbox360).

  • hmz just turned 18

  • @MaestroDraven have you ever heard of steam? its for mac and pc ;)

  • @LlamaUnicornDiva45

Have you seen the Macintosh Steam lineup lately? It's nothing to write home about :)

  • Y is everyone saying that macs can't play games? I have a Mac and I play games all the time

  • I have been using Windows since is started using computers when i was 4 years old. Now, 10 years later, I have never seen the blue screen of death, Never got a virus, Used the same computer for 6 years and never had to restore anything. Its not about the OS, its about the user.

  • I like pcs and Macs but use a pc, because i'm a hardcore gamer and i design programs myself.

  • MAC ALL THE WAY W00T!

  • most people dont know that they can play games on macs too, dumbasses

  • @LlamaUnicornDiva45 Best joke I heard in years.

  • @LlamaUnicornDiva45

That may be so, but it's one thing to be able to run a game, and quite another to run it the way it was intended. I admit that Apple has done a good job of getting off its butt and putting in some decent video cards into their systems, but you're only as strong as your weakest muscle, and their mid-range CPUs and RAM still don't cut it when it comes to high end gaming. Remarkably, you'd get staggeringly better results out of a PC that cost up to $1000 less.

  • It's quite sad how some people get so aggravated over the PC vs Mac argument. PCs are good for gaming, Macs are reliable and easy to use. PCs are better for programming and hardcore use, Macs are better for people who prefer an easier, more streamlined system. We get it. Buy the computer which best suits you and get the fuck over it.

  • @rahuljin2 really? programming was easier for me on mac. sorry pal. the underlying is unix. server deployment, vim, bbedit, textmate, xcode, git work nicely with linux based system. unless you are talking about pure windows development.

  • @lXciD Haha, I actually love macs, and wouldn't use Windows. But I had to give it something, and I've heard from my friends that program that apparently windows is better for programming. I've never really programmed, so I was just taking their word for it.

  • These are really stupid, witless ads. How much did they cough up for this rubbish, and couldn't they get in a writer to put in some jokes to make it worthwhile?

  • @gloomyoutlook Each commercial ended with a punchline.

  • Sure the commercials say that mac is better, BUT PC RULES ON GAMING!

  • And I use linux.

  • @Minecrafter2133 And Linux is an OS and not a Computer.

Being unable to distinguish between the two makes me doubt you actually use Linux.

  • Good bye apple goodbye Steve, goodbye you mother ****ing Mac!

  • i kinda feel bad about PC :P

im using PC, but im dying to have a mac

  • @afique611998 ME 2

  • 240p we meet again

  • Windows: I can do fun stuff, like Bf3 and alot of other games that are not on steam.

  • thumbs up if your watching this on a mac

  • erm Im new girl in your class

  • ok i'v made up my mind i'm getting a mac BUT i'm installing WINDOWS 7 on it because i'm a gamer and my life just sucks having mac

  • @TheNothinged

Not to complain, but is there a particular reason you are pursuing a Mac just to run Windows 7 on it?

  • i like how the Mac never said anything about gaming lol

  • It's funny how these stopped after Windows 7 :D

  • @Lukeezcollins The funniest bit is most Mac users don't realise that Microsoft own 43 % of Apple and could actually take over Apple in the next three years. Microsoft also write a lot of applications for Apple. Microsoft have also bailed Apple out of the shit various times since 1995. I am not knocking Steve JObs, he was a brilliant man, but without him Apple is going to crumble.

  • @Lukeezcollins Actually, a few of these commercials were aired right after Windows 7 was launched. Apple's whole product strategy changed after the release of the iPad and iPhone 4 a few months after the launch of Windows 7. From then on, it was iPhone and iPad commercials.

  • @sc0pl355 Yeah but still... Windows 7 kicks ass :D

  • @sc0pl355

That might have something to do with the way Windows 7 soared past Snow Leopard sales in the first two weeks of its release. It made little sense for Apple to try taking on such a runaway success, especially with the rave reviews W7 got. It was a far better idea for them to focus on their own products, rather than try to bash a competitor that they have no hope of ever eclipsing.

  • @MaestroDraven Hardly telling since a lot of people were making a mass exodus from Windows XP and Windows Vista to windows 7. Also, windows has a larger marketshare and its sales are magnified by massive OEM support.

I think it has to do with the fact that there's less negative things one can say about Win7

  • @sc0pl355

True, true. I agree there. Let's just hope Windows 8 doesn't suffer from the dreaded flip-flop routine where the next iteration is a disaster, and the one after that is a raging success. Just for once I'd like some thorough progression from Microsoft.

  • @MaestroDraven Well, time will tell, tho it seems that Apple's target market right now is the mobility market, in which they hold a much higher hand than they ever did with desktop and laptop computers.

  • @sc0pl355

I agree. 75% of Mac sales are Macbooks. It's one of the reasons why the Mac Pro is on the chopping block right now, according to Apple Insider. I'd say they're far better off in the mobile market. As a computer manufacturer, they just aren't able to push volume sales that well.

  • @MaestroDraven Well, the Mac Pro is on the chopping block because, with thunderbolt, the iMac is all around the far better deal.

"they just aren't able to push volume sales that well."

They sold almost 5 million units last quarter. Granted, they sold more iPads in the same quarter, but iPads retail for much less the average Mac does. What they sold in macs last quarter was around $7-8 billion in gross sales at least.

Apple can move volume, the thing is that mobility is the future.

  • @sc0pl355

True, but still, Macbooks comprise 3/4 of the sales, not iMacs or Mac Pros. As for tablets, I still don't think anybody is doing it right. They're a convenient little thing if you happen to be on your lunchbreak or on the bus ride home but the iPad for instance...it's literally a gigantic iPhone. I have a 3GS and my wife has a 4, but neither of us see any reason to get a Tablet. It's the same as your cellphone, and can't defeat its original target rival: the notebook.

  • @MaestroDraven Well, I think that the macbooks selling well is more a matter of convenience than anything else. A Macbook is more convenient than having to ride a desk all day. Trust me, the computer that I'm on right now is a macbook and my iMac has gotten no love in the years since I had this laptop. Their laptops were computers last time I checked, so I don't see how that invalidates citing their Mac Sales in the slightest.

    cont...

  • @sc0pl355

No, I'm just saying that Macbooks comprise the bulk of the sales. But laptops as we both know are still limited. Even the one I'm using right now is very powerful but I'm still limited in expandability, power etc. I don't know much about tablet contracts because I'm in Canada and I haven't really bothered to see the differences. From that perspective yes, the extra screen size helps out, but most people who already own an iPhone won't snag an iPad unless they're die-hards.

  • @MaestroDraven "laptops as we both know are still limited. Even the one I'm using right now is very powerful but I'm still limited in expandability, power etc"

Do we really need lots of expandability or power? Today, you can buy a computer that would devastate a top of the line $4000 gaming PC made in 2006 (skulltrail). Software demands have not kept in pace with hardware capabilities and in the areas where they have kept in pace, it is usually lazy developing instead of superior capability.

  • @sc0pl355

I'm not sure about that. The current Bulldozer 8 and 16-Core CPUs are boasting an 89% leap in performance over the best of the industry's server CPUs, so obviously someone is doing something right. Case in point: Mac Pro. A customized 12-Core starts at $4999, and can clock in at around $13,000 for a high end rendering workstation. By contrast, you'll achieve far better numbers on an SR-2 12-Core Classified PC with the same hardware and it'll cost around $6000.

  • @MaestroDraven "A customized 12-Core starts at $4999, and can clock in at around $13,000 for a high end rendering workstation."

I can max a mac pro for way less than $13k

    Mac Pro 12 core= $5k

    96 gb of ram (16gb sticks)= 1.5k

Quadro 4000 (mac version)= $1.5k or PC version to flash for OSX = $780

    4xSeagate Barracuda XT ST33000651AS 3TB= 1.6k

LED Cinema Diplay (27" IPS panel 2550x1440)= 1k

    Above build 10.6k at most.

Also, please compare the price of a mac pro to other OEM workstations.

  • @sc0pl355

I don't really compare to other workstations, but I priced out my own build with the same hardware as a base 12-Core Mac Pro, then built on it to include a 512GB SSD, two 27" Dell UltraSharps, 2 GTX580 cards and a slew of other features, and it topped out at $6000. Granted, I had build from Apple's website, and it's no secret that they overcharge for their stuff. Ironically, that's what makes a Mac Pro purchase a bad decision, if I have to start buying hardware from other vendors.

  • @MaestroDraven "I don't really compare to other workstations"

You should try it sometime before you start calling the Mac Pro overpriced and so on.

  • @MaestroDraven Incorrect

    1) Apple tests, vets and installs the components. There's a 'convenience cost' associated with that.

    2) The most important part of a computer is the computer itself. Ram and Hard drives are not as essential as the computer is user accessible. Saying that somehow defeats the purpose of buying it is like saying that your ability to change the sparkplugs, rims, windshield wipers or tires in/on your car defeats the purpose of buying it form a dealership.

  • @sc0pl355

The bottom line is that if you could start outside of the Apple store to build a Mac from scratch, you would probably see the same result. However, that's obviously impossible. The $5000 price tag on the initial Mac Pro 12-core is bad enough, but the way Apple overcharges, it just becomes an exercise in frustration. I would rather customize a PC build with the type of hardware than an SR-2 Classified build would give me, and achieve far greater benchmark numbers.

  • @MaestroDraven "The $5000 price tag on the initial Mac Pro 12-core is bad enough, but the way Apple overcharges,"

Apple is NOT overcharging. Look at how much other OEM 12 core workstations cost, most of them are in the same price range. It costs me less to cook my own steak than it does to get one from the sizzler, but I wouldn't call the sizzler overpriced.

Also, you seem to be missing the point of what a workstation is supposed to be used for. They are supposed to be stable, not fast.

  • @sc0pl355

A rendering workstation is meant to be stable AND fast, my friend. Time is money. If I am rendering a incredibly complex Trapcode Form render that is 5 minutes long and contains millions of particles, then rendering speed is of the utmost importance, because I'll have other jobs on the pan that need to be done just as quickly. The benchmarks have already shown that the Mac Pro trails behind the SR-2 Classified builds out there, which cost significantly less. That's my point.

  • @MaestroDraven "A rendering workstation is meant to be stable AND fast, my friend. "

Yeah, but fast in a different way than a gaming PC. Your build would choke to death as a rendering rig. one quadro 4000 would be better for the job than two gaming cards.

"then rendering speed is of the utmost importance"

Then WHY are you using gaming cards?

"The benchmarks have already shown that the Mac Pro trails behind the SR-2 Classified builds out there,"

    Show me.

Also, while 96GB of RAM does sound mighty appealing, you should know that it actually has the opposite effect on performance due to limitations in tri-channel pipelining. The "hack" used to get past 48GB of RAM in previous Mac Pros proved this, and the result was lower memory performance. Not by a huge margin, but enough that it would be counterproductive. I'm not sure if that has changed but I haven't heard any news to the contrary.

  • @MaestroDraven " The "hack" used to get past 48GB of RAM in previous Mac Pros proved this, and the result was lower memory performance."

There was no 'hack' needed. The previous Mac Pros could take 64gb of ram without a single mod. The point is that I can *max* a mac pro for less than $13k. I haven't said diddly-squat about the merits of having that much ram because that isn't important to supporting my claim. If you don't think that 96gb of ram is needed, then all the better for my point.

  • @sc0pl355

Maybe, I'm not sure. It wasn't technically a hack, but something needed to be done that definitely wasn't in the operator's manual, and it ended up having the reverse effect on performance. As for Apple testing its components, does that really cost up to $3000 more? I don't think so. While I do agree that other workstations might be expensive, building your own simply is not. Better parts, better quality, much better savings. Triple-win.

  • @MaestroDraven "As for Apple testing its components, does that really cost up to $3000 more?"

You're forgetting labor costs, shipping and custom components, not to mention profit. The price that Apple charged was pretty much what a lot of other OEM's charge for their workstations.

  • @sc0pl355

It still doesn't justify the costs. $750 dollars to upgrade 6GB of RAM to 16GB of RAM? Does that sound right to you? Also, rendering in After Effects is RAM-based, not video-card based. Any way you slice, the point is that Macs are just too expensive, and unjustifiable. Labor costs? Nope. Not when Foxconn is building all of your stuff. Profit is the part I do agree with. That's all Apple is interested in.

  • @MaestroDraven "Does that sound right to you?"

I don't see why not. Dell charges $780 to jump from 6GB to 12GB in their precision T7500 workstation, but I don't see you bitching about them. HP charges $740-$780 to jump from 6-16gb of ram, but I don't see you bitching about them.

"Not when Foxconn is building all of your stuff."

Apple uses three major contractors to assemble their hardware. Foxconn, Quanta and Asustek. Also, there ARE labor costs because they configure the machines in the US.

  • "That's all Apple is interested in."

You're singling Apple out as being *overpriced* when their prices are actually AVERAGE for what a comparable OEM workstation costs. You lambast them for charging x-amount for a ram upgrade when their competition charges a little more for a SIMILAR or LESSER upgrade.

"rendering in After Effects is RAM-based, not video-card based."

Oh, my bad, I thought we were talking about serious rendering work, not stuff that I could do just as well on an iMac or Mini.

  • @sc0pl355

Anyways, you were right in your original post: Apple should stick to the mobile market, which is where they seem to have found their best place. From a computer standpoint, they still have a long way to go.

  • @MaestroDraven " From a computer standpoint, they still have a long way to go."

    Do they?

Let's see, they have a 90% share of the 'over $1k' laptop market, they dominate the all in one market, do very well in the mini pc market and so on.

Last time I checked, mobile computers were computers. I said that they are focussing on mobile because *THAT* is where the market is heading. Nobody wants to be chained to a desk all day to watch a video, surf the web or play a game.
