One reason they could have goofed their lines is because there is a good bit of improv involved in this job. It's quite grueling - I should know because I'm one of the street cast and I've seen these guys doing their job for two Octobers running. They're really fabulous and very versatile!
It does seem a hard job, 'cuz it kept rotating on the hour, which means the cast has to keep their eyes on the watch. Kudos to all who've gone through the ranks and paid their dues for us ruffian audiences!
All I can say on my behalf is that I botch my lines all the time, and I don't even have a script!
Hehe, we don't even get to wear our watches! I keep mine hooked inside my skirt because it's not period-accurate and we try to remain as accurate as we can.
The first girl making the announcements is Liz (who is awesome), the guy is Jesse (also cool), and the girl being arrested is Julianne (the Kate Winslet of the group and an incredibly sweet girl). They're always game to interact with even crazy Halloween visitors!
I botch my own speech, so don't worry - that wasn't me taking offense. :)
Who's saying, "Praise Jehovah!"? She reminds me of the wife of a good bud of mine.
At first, I couldn't make out what Julianne is saying when first accused. I thought she says, "Oh, SOD IT!" But, that's Brit, cockney most likely, so that's out. Then I realized it's "What charges?" I like my mondegreen better!
As far as accuracy, I hear you. This sort of theatre is becoming more common, fortunately, instead of the old starchy lectured tour. Plimoth's the same way ... my kid's going in May!
I can't tell who's saying "Praise Jehovah!", but that is a common exclamation among us Cry Innocenters!
Hmm - she very well could have been saying "Oh, sod it!" - it sounds like something the tart-tongued Bridget would say. Many of the girls who play Bridget use the classic line "Go boil your head!" Sounds silly unless spat out in an enraged, menacing Puritan-girl voice.
Hey, PM ... on another note, you know of "The Crucible", right? Well, check out "City of the Dead", aka "Horror Hotel" ... good witchy fun for Halloween! There's small bits of both films here on YouTube® ... good atmospheric films! Of course, "CotD" is hardly accurate!
The actors at times goofed their lines, but we could tell they were having a good time. We had a good time, too. Noteworthy were the multitudes of opinions from different reenactments as to why the children acted as they did, which made problems only worse. Check out "The Crucible", a good film on the subject.
Hey! I went to the Salem to watch Cry Innocent cuz it was our school's field trip on wednesday oct.17! You went and videotaped the same day i went! Wasn't the show good?
