a buddy of mine fired his car off in the driveway and the throttle hung wide open, he drove it off the end of the driveway shot it off a 3 foot rock into a tree and ripped the frond end right out of it.... he had no helmet or belts on...luck to be alive
It is tough to find that for sure. There is really no mic that can capture the exact sound of what these things make. Especially when it comes to the 410's.
In the 60s I had a neighbor that had 2 midgets - 1 current at the time - & 1 older - with offy motor, we kived at bottom of long hill, he would start cars down hill, come to our road, turn up it and at top he woult take it out of gear, turn aroumd & put back in gear going back down our hill, as a kid ypu can all bet we came running when we heard that offy coming ! Later in life I was told by others that the older car was famous & A J & Bettenhousen & Mario & others had driven that car Wow.
I wish you were my neighbor. That would be pretty cool to look out your window and see a sprint car getting pushed off. Too bad the video doesn't do the noise juctice.
thanks for the compliments on the car. To answer your question, yes, whenever he is strapped in the car he is required to have all of the safety gear on. The reason for simply firing the motor is, among other things, to make sure there are no leaks in the fuel system. In the videos you can see the driver and crew reaching around feeling the fittings for leaks. Fire is one of the biggest dangers in sprint cars, and making sure the driver is protected is a high priority even when at home.
years ago a guy started his sprint by his house no helmet no fire suit and didnt have the seat belts on. well long story short his throttle stuck and he paniced and steered towards his house and flipped it over in his front yard

what makes me sad is that i have yet to find a video where the mic on the camera can give the sound of one of these cars justice.
